The AC on my 2001 F150 didn't work correctly so I bought a gauge and a bottle of AC juice and decided to charge the system. The AC starts out cold and turns warm. I put the gauge on the system and the needle goes to the red portion of the gauge. The AC will turn warm.
Is there a relay switch that quits functioning? Is there a code I could look at to determine the problem?
I have a 2001 F150, 2WD, 5.4L. Neither the heat nor the air conditioning works. The blower works fine on all settings, and the air blows out of the correct ducts in accordance with the switch settings. The problem is the heat does not blow hot, and the AC does not blow cold. Everything is just the temperature of outside air.
If I jumper power to the compressor at the relay socket in the fuse box, I can make the compressor run and it provides cold air. The relay does not seem to be the issue because replacing the relay does not work. The heater core is hooked up, just no hot air.
I was thinking maybe the problem is in the temperature level switch in the dash panel. Does that sound like the best possibility? Do you think these problems are connected, or am I looking at two different issues.
2001 f150 extended cab flareside 4x4 4.6L v8, M5od manual, 196,539 miles this morning. the clutch slave is going out so I have some grinding and extra noise but recently the motor began to run like crap. I took it and coded it. "p0403, cylinder 4 misfire" is what it read on the obd scanner screen... I had a similar issue with the COPs not working and actually allowing water into the spark plug cylinder. I replaced them all at 100,000 miles or so with new motorcraft plugs at that time.
Fixed the problem and nothing since that time. Not sure why I did them all but I did. i was dumber 96000 miles ago. I also took down the intake and cleaned all the ports and crap out of it also. Yesterday took out #4 (on passenger firewall) and it looks fine. No evidence of leak, spark plug a light tan, firing well without problems, and even gaped properly still. My question is first I understood the p0403 to be EGR related, not cylinder #4 misfiring...seems odd.
2nd: I'd like to avoid just throwing parts at this problem. The EGR is simple enough to replace and if that's what is needed so be it. I'd rather do it right the first time. I've checked all of the vacuum lines, fittings, attachments. No leaks detected with smoke/brake fluid tests either. Good suction at the PCV, all good.
Well now I have to replace the multi function switch due to moving my steering wheel and the headlights sometimes working and turning signals not working. I saw a great video on youtube about changing a Multi Function Switch and it shows where the air bag needs to be removed. I was hoping that since my truck is an older 1997 F250 LD I wouldn't have to remove the airbag. Is there a way to do this w/out messing with the airbag on the 1997?
View 1 RepliesHave a 1999 F-150 work truck that I bought. Of course the blinker aren't working. Flashers, wipers, H/L's all work just fine. Nothing for blinkers outside or dash indicators, either side.
Checked fuses, every time I try something and are good.
MFS. Took old one apart cleaned no change. Bought new switch no change. Have power in harness up to switch in 2 spots.
Wiring. Noticed while replacing MFS the couple wires loose on the back of harness plug. Cleaned and pushed them back into block. Making sure they are fully seated to make contact with MFS. No change. Bent contacts on switch a little for tighter connection. No change.
Replaced relay/flashers. No change. So obviously I'm overlooking something. The truck is a western truck. Hasn't been modified or messed with. Nice clean original, heck only 61000 miles. Wiring under dash looks untouched. Still has the factory AM/FM only radio.
2002 F-150 XLT. Came with factory keyless entry. The remote type, not the keypad on the door.
A few months ago I noticed the remote would not unlock or lock the doors when I pressed the remote buttons. Usually after a few tries it would work though. Fast forward to Sunday and now the remote doesn't seem to work at all.
I changed the battery in the remote. No difference. Then I then reprogrammed the remote and it worked fine locking and unlocking the door. So I thought I was in the clear. Then this [Tuesday] morning I try hitting the button on the remote and sure enough it's not doing anything.
I'm really stumped what to do here. Could the receiver in the truck be bad? The truck isn't driven a whole lot. But the battery in the truck has enough juice to start the truck. So I don't think that's the problem. Any guesses?
I have a 2002 f150 super crew, 5.4l and 4wd. The low tone horn is not working and I am having trouble locating it. Where do you suppose Ford has hid it?
View 2 RepliesI'm working on a 03 Lariat F150 with vac. controlled 4x4 (I'm new to this one). Transfer case works, ft drive shaft turns, but the front axle wont engage. The servo works, and the linkage is tight on the shaft, and the shaft turns back and forth, and the ft axle can be engage manually by working the small lever back and forth with the servo disconnected, but when zip-tied in place it doesn't stay in 4x4, so something is broken, worn out, or disconnected inside the housing.
Also I repositioned the servo back a bit with a spacer to make sure it wasn't a length of travel issue, and is not - the problem is definitely inside - the linkage feels sloppy when manipulated with the servo off.
Since Ive never had one of these apart I thought Id ask first (also a new thing for me), so I'd know what parts to get (I don't live "in town"), and I figger this isn't the first one of these to break. So I am sitting down - what am I in for??? It looks pretty straight forward, but somehow I doubt it is...
I noticed that my break lights are not working. Checked the fuses . The break light on the cab works fine. The blinkers and emergency flasher work great. i checked the bulbs and nothing wrong there. Truck runs and drives great. But no break lights.

View 13 RepliesI have a 98 F150 with a 5.4 auto 4X4. All four of the guages are on the left side of the instrument cluster. Neither one of the 4 work. The gas gauge, the amp meter, the oil pressure, and temp gauge work. the all four just stay all the way down. I've checked all the fuses and the sending units. ONly fuse position number 6 and 30 pertain to the cluster. I took the cluster out too make sure it was plugged in and it was. I know there is gas in it and I know the oil pump is working.
View 4 RepliesI have an automatic 5.4L (L code) 2000 Ford F-150 and I am having problems with the reverse lights not working when I place the transmission in reverse. Fuse #5 in the passenger compartment fuse panel is good and both reverse lamps are good as well. I have also metered the LB/PK input wire at DTR sensor and it is reading 12 volts when the ignition is in the on position. I have also the metered the BK/PK wire output wire at the DTR and this wire also reads 12 volts when I place the transmission in reverse. I have checked continuity from the BK/PK wire at DTR to the BK/PK wire at the reverse lamp socket and I do not have continuity. I then ran a fused jumper wire from the BK/PK wire directly to the BK/PK wire at the reverse lamp socket and the lamps will light up when I place the transmission in reverse and will also turn off when the transmission is placed back in park. So it seems that the DTR is not defective. I'm not sure what else to check. Obviously the BK/PK circuit is open at some point between the DTR and the reverse lamp socket, but I'm wondering if there is something else that I need to check. The vehicle is also equipped with a factory trailer tow package

View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 santa fe and the blinkers are not functioning but the hazard lights are working fine. I checked the fuse and that is fine. Is there someway I can take apart the handle assembly where the switch for the blinkers are? Also, sometimes they would work and other times they wouldn't so that seems like a loose connection somewhere. The indicators for the blinkers on the dash do not work either so there has to be a problem giving power to the switch.
View 8 RepliesI have a 1997 Ford F250. My trailer lights will work, but I have no brake lights or turn lights. I have checked all my fuses and all the fuses are good.
I was told it was probably my trailer tow relay, so I bought it at O'Reilly's, but I don't know which relay it is exactly.
I just want to know which relay number it is so I can replace it. And, if this doesn't sound right, is there something else I should be trying?
Got a 2003 F150 4.6 2wd and recently the blinkers dont work. Also some how the 4wd light came on even though the truck is a 2wd. After searching it seems alto of people recommend replacing the Multi Function Switch. The truck is plain jane no tilt wheel.
Is this the MFS everyone is talking about?

Cigarette lighter works and shared fuse seems fine. OBD port even powers up my cheapo elm bluetooth reader. Unfortunately multiple different readers refuse to connect. I've tried disconnecting negative terminal for a half hour and trying again but no luck.

View 1 RepliesI had the battery unhooked for an extended period of time while replacing the starter. My father owns a 1997 F250 heavy duty. Well he was parked beside me when I was putting everything back together. He goes to lock his doors and ended up locking mine and his. After that my remote won't work at all, but his does. What happened? Howdo I fix it? I tried to unhook the battery for 3 hrs and plug it back in. Still nothing.
View 2 RepliesI have a 1998 Ford F150. The turn signals do not work nor the hazard flashers. When I trun on the hazard flashers(they do not come on) the turn signals will then work. Checked all fuses both under dash and in the engine compartment. With flashers turned on and using the turn signals, the relays located in engine compartment are working. It appears that the only way for the turn signals to work is to recieve power through the hazards.
