I'm doing a trans service soon on a 99 F-150 (4.2 v-6 with a 4r70w) and want to add a Wix inline filter. Is the rubber section on the cooler return line 3/8"? I'm also thinking of swapping the stock trans cooler with one from a 2003 7.3 superduty.
View 2 RepliesI went to change the small filter that is mounted just behind the radiator and is inline with the 5r100 . with a socket on the bottom all i was able to do was flex the brackets going to the 3 mounting bolts as this thing is on there real good. Looking for examples on unthreading the bottom cup to access filter?
View 6 RepliesOn my previous 1992 F-350, when I serviced the E40D 2WD trans I replaced the filter during a trans service. I read about some filters falling down inside pan causing shifting issues. There is an aftermarket clip sold that holds the filter in the up position and prevents it from falling into pan.
Is the clip also used on the 2WD 4R100? is it the same issue of potentially falling down in pan as was the case with the E40D? Preparing to service my 2003 F-350 2WD 4R100 and install a new filter and want to be sure I have all parts/supplies ready to go.
I pull a 23 ft travel trailer with my 99 f150 4.6l and so I decided I needed a trans cooler just to be safe towing in the dead of summer. I got a few quotes for right under 300. I couldn't justify the labor cost considering the cooler was under 100. So I made up my mind and decided to do it myself. I watched a bunch of videos for other makes and models but couldn't find nothing on my particular model year truck. I finished it today and I realized that my transmission fluid fluid is very dark. I have never serviced the transmission ever not even a drain and refill. I am going on my trip in about 7 days, and was wondering if I should even mess with anything to do with the transmission fluid. I put about a half quart of new fluid to top it off after the install of the transcooler but now I am worried that my transmission may not be in the best shape. Truck shifts fine as far as I concerned and acceleration is ok, so I am hesitant to do anything to it.

I've watched multiple YouTube videos and it seems a lot of people use the test port on the driver side above the linkage. I found out the hard way that it is a very poor choice of location. A lot of people say that the best way is to drop the pan drill a hole and weld in the bung? I was wondering would it be possible to put it on the "out" line on the transmission oil headed to the cooler? 01 f-350 7.3

I used to own a fleet of school buses and I had remote trans filter on all of them. I'd change the filter about every 10K and felt like it really extended my trans life on Allisons. I wanted to put on my SD, so, I had a spare filter block with a 20psi bypass valve, and I used it. Worked out real well mounted to the radiator support, up front--easy access. uses a NAPA 1268 filter. In the picture it looks like the hoses are real close to the AC condenser, but in real life, the are three inches from it.
View 2 RepliesOk...my 2000 F-350 V-10 utility bed's AC smells like vinegar lately. And since I hafta run with the AC on these days (it's 97 outside here... ) the smell gets really annoying. I went and bought the correct cab air filter...but how do I install it? The manual says nothing about it. The little instruction sheet on the Fram air filter says it's under the glovebox, but I either can't recognize it or how to open it.

View 2 RepliesF150 - 2003 ... Do some of these trucks actually not have power door locks that operate both sides? Or, is there something wrong with my newly purchased truck's door locks? If so, how hard is it to put in an aftermarket electric door lock?
All I need is for both the things to lock from one door. I haven't had to manually lock all doors in a vehicle I have owned for over 30 years, and it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
I bought a used bugshield for my 98. I know how to install it but it didnt come with installation materials. What screws, washers and so on do i need?
View 3 RepliesI got an 03 extended cab with triton 5.4 to replace my 1995 f150. no plates yet, just parked in drive. moved it around a few times, ran fine. tonight it wouldn't start. dark, cold, impatient etc... couldn't get air filter apart, drilled hole in plastic, added ether and blew it all into the neighbors yard. sounded like a muzzle loader. nothing usable on it. blew filter holder apart and everything inline. my question, do i replace with stock or get one of these breather kits i read about??? Western motor sports, etc....... Any "digs" well, i deserve them. keep in mind i don't need extra horsepower. I'm an HVAC guy and this is my work truck. i care about mileage.
View 14 RepliesThis is a 2003 F150 4.6 liter Romeo engine with leak behind the oil filter. I can't tell if the leak is from the oil pressure sensor or the adapter behind it. I think it is from the adapter where it mates with the engine. My question is how the heck do I get it out to put in a seal? I can see one bolt but can't image it being held by one bolt.

Attempted to replace fuel filter tonight. The connector on the fuel tank side of the filter came off just like it is supposed to. The engine side, however, will not come lose at all. I can wiggle to back and forth, but I can't seem to get the tool to compress the springs.
The engine side connector seems to be smaller than the tank side. I've done this once before on a '98 Ranger, but didn't notice a difference in connectors.
I have a 1998 f 150 v8 4.6 ltr xlt. A mechanic told me that if my tranny gets hot the OVERDRIVE LIGHT will start to blink. It sounds strange to me, should I have a guage installed? I will be towing a trailer this summer.
View 8 RepliesI have a 1997 F150 4 x 4 with the 5.4 overdrive transmission. When I accelerate from a stop I can feel the slip of the transmission until I reach exactly 35 miles an hour. Above 35 seems to be normal and have plenty of torque.
The funny thing about this is I have had a 2001 Windstar same 35 miles an hour. I have also owned a 1997 Ford Explorer with this exact same issue. Three different motor and trans combination that will not lock up until you reach 35 miles an hour.
The truck has 213,000 I have replaced all coils fuel filters catalytic converter and torque converter. Have exterior tranny cooler. engine runs good and strong. And no code I have a reader.
I have 97 f150 x-cab 4.6 auto 4x4. I'm gettin ready to pull motor & trans to rebuild both. I was wondering if I can pull both while still bolted together without having to remove the cab??? And what else will needed to be removed.
