Is there a way to disable the auto 4 wheel drive on a 98 Explorer for testing purposes? I believe there is a module but can't remember where it's located and I don't know if it can be temporarily disabled.
View 10 RepliesMy F350 4x4 won't go into 4 wheel drive unless I get out and take them out of auto and put them in locked position and when I have it in lock mode it seams to work like it's in auto mode, when I put the switch on the dash in 2wd, it seams like it's only driving the back wheels....
View 14 RepliesMy problem is that my explorer, 130,000 miles will not engage in any gear while in 2 wheel drive or 4H. Truck will only engage in 4L. And when it does engage in 4L it hesitates and jumps into gear, especially drive. Also takes some doing to get it out of 4L. While truck is in 2 wheel and in drive, my speedometer reads about 20 mph with truck not moving. It does not do it in reverse. Also gears will grind when I attempt to put vehicle back in park because of it registering that I'm doing 20. Dropped pan and changed tranny fluid and filter. No change. Also not hearing transfer case engaging while I shift between auto, 4H and 4L. Really need this truck fixed ASAP, and need to do repairs myself.
View 2 RepliesYesterday I noticed when I pushed the 4x4 high and the 4x4 low button nothing happened, there was no light indicator coming on at the dash, and also there was no differece in gears when 4x4 low was selected, is there an easy fix to this like possible a fuse blown?
View 14 RepliesSo my Push Button 4 wheel drive wont engage. The light on the dash wont light up and it doesn't shift into 4x4. Where to start? I would like to check the simple stuff first. O and my heat only gets hot when im giving the vehicle gas. This is all on a 2003 Ford Explorer.
View 2 RepliesAlright so a friend of mine has a Ford Explore with the little switch on the dash for auto 4 wheel, high 4 wheel, and low 4 wheel. When it is in Auto it has no issues drives fine and good. As soon as you turn it to 4 wheels high and start to go all you get is a loud clunking noise constantly. Another friend had a similair issue with an AWD explorer that we just pulled the front drive shaft and it seemed to solve the issue. How would I test the driveshaft to see if that's the issue.
View 2 RepliesI think it's possessed! My sisters vehicle, a 2002 Explorer with a 4.0 V-6, automatic, 2 wheel drive will just shut off. At first it acted like it would vapor lock. But it would start right away. then the a while later, (several months), it got where it would drop rpms and the engine shudders, sometimes not dying.
When this first started, the throttle body was cleaned, a new air filter installed, fuel pressure checked. Everything checked out and for a few days it ran fine. Then it started all over again. There has never been a code thrown. All of this goes on only when the ambient temp is above 70 deg.'s. below 70 deg.'s it runs perfect.
Last week it went to the mechanic again and a new crank speed sensor, fuel pump, and diagnostic done. He could not find anything wrong any where. Took it for a test drive and it dyed on the mechanic. Still no codes. What the problem might be? Every Mechanic that has looked at it has gave up, one even saying, " it's possessed."
My 07 AT 2.0 has a weird problem - when auto downshifting after a long drive at highways speeds, the whole car thuds. This happens after driving about 20 miles or so at 60MPH+. 5 or 10 miles are not a problem.
What happens is that when it slips down into 2nd, it sounds like something jams (no grinding). The force/feeling is similar to running into something at a slow speed - like bumping a car while parking.
If I slip into Tip and downshift manually, it doesn't happen. Outside of this the car has 22K miles and drives great.
I bought the truck from the original owner, its a true to life cream puff. Fully loaded. What I don't like is the doors lock automatically when I start driving. I want to disable that feature. Any way to accomplish this? 2002 Supercrew XLT lariat....
View 3 RepliesWhen I turn on the headlights of my 2004 sd diesel dually the console readout dims to the point I can't read it. I know about the intensity wheel but it does not have enough to overcome the auto-dim feature. Can the auto-dim be disabled, ripped out, sent to Iran, threatened with a .45? Anything to get rid of it.

View 6 RepliesI just got myself a 1993 ford explorer and the damn thing won't drive forward but it will drive in reverse. What could be the problem?? I've already drained the Transmission Fluid out & refilled it. My friend told me it is most likely the Neutral Safety Switch but I have no clue where it is located. I will be honest I have absolutely no clue about vehicles.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to disable the auto lock feature after time-out? I am not referring to the auto locks after driving 15kph. I am referring to when you unlock the doors with the remote and then don't open any of the doors for a minute or two. If you do not "wake" the car by opening it, the doors automatically lock again.
This is my most hated feature. There will be times when I unlock the door from the house and walk out to the car to get something. If I don't open a door within 1 minute, its locked again. Now I just have to carry the key for the most trivial things. Is this a menu option or a vag option?

in modern Hyundai cars, they can disable this operation by pressing 5 times on Intake (recirculation) button.

Every time I accidentally unlock the door with the key, the alarm goes off- and I accidentally hit the panic button in the dark at 5AM the other day, neighbors loved that. Just want the alarm gone, and be able to use the key or fob as I like. Has to be a way?

I suppose I could also turn on the lights, but that seems like overkill.
The doors & trunk will auto lock @10mph and will not auto unlock when car is stopped. This is very inconvenient. When I buy groceries then try to open the trunk when I get home, I always have to unlock the trunk before I can open it.
My dealer told me they cannot reprogram it. The older model has an option on the MFC but not ours.
2015 RX350 with Nav. Is there a way to disable the "auto" function of the intermittent wipers to gain manual control when in intermittent mode?. With the rain sensor and speed sensor, often even with the intermittent control at the fastest setting, the wipers don't swipe often enough. Especially when driving at slower speed or waiting at an intersection, the intermittent swipe takes so long that I must manually turn on the wiper to low speed. This makes no sense to me. Just because I'm driving slow or at an intersection, Lexus thinks I don't need clear vision?
This is the first vehicle with rain and speed sensing wipers and it will be my last. This is not only annoying it's a safety hazard.
Is there a user configurable setting to change this? Or is it something the dealer can disable?
