Wife's truck- 2002 v8 limited explorer with 116k... Yesterday she calls and says the od light is flashing and the message center says check transmission. She drove it home then when I got home the light was off and all seemed ok. I am taking it to have the codes read and hoping that my mechanics scanner picks up a code.
View 2 Replies05 Ford explorer O/D light flashes along with check transmission. Iv had it at ford and they checked it for codes and said it needed a new torque converter, and valve body torque plate. They changed the torque plate, cleaned the valve body changed the fluid and filter, checked it again for codes and said it was fixed. less than 100 miles and 1400 dollars later with a new torque converter new torque plate and fresh fluid and filter still have the same problem. What else could be wrong with this transmission It drives and shifts as it should and it has from the start of the o/d light flashing and the check transmission message.
View 4 RepliesI replaced my wheel bearings and wheels roughly 6 months ago, right after I noticed my wheels gittered when turning at low speeds. I assumed this was a power steering issue or the new tires. I have now learned from this forum that it is most likely stuck in 4x4 HIGH but has no indications on the dash. Just yesterday though the actual 4x4 High light started flashing in different variations. I get 6 flashes one time, then 8 flashes 2 minutes later on the dash and so on back and forth. When I stop I can put the truck in 4x4 high and the light stays on, same with 4x4 low. Then when I go back to 4x4 auto they go off but I still feel gittering while turning at low speeds. What would cause this? I see a lot of people replacing the Xfer case control module but no one seems to have the same problem.

I have a 1998 expedition 4.6 4x4 check engine light on od light flashing sometimes checked it and got p1747 code i was told epc solenoid or short on trans wiring. I already dropped the trans pan, looking for a step by step easy way to diagnose and find the short or if i need to replace any of the solenoids. I have voltmeter and taste light....

What other problem it may have? 4x4 light flashing (instrument panel looks like a xmas tree)...
View 10 RepliesIt's a 2002 explorer, 4.0, 5R55W trans, all was fine then O/D light starts flashing, so I limp it home. Trans isn't slipping, every gear works, it does kinda bang into 4th but is otherwise normal. Took it to auto zone to have the code read, but no codes found. Disconnected battery to see if it just needed a reset maybe, let it sit for a few hours, reconnect, OD light still flashes. Borrow a different OBD2 tester, still shows no codes, still drives the same just bangs into 4th. I've read up on the solenoid pack replacement, just kind hesitant as I feel like I'm guessing at the problem and might be throwing money away.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 mountaineer v-6 awd drives pretty good but od light is always flashing even if ignition switch is open and truck not started..and check transmission on message display also..the only thing that i feel its really tight on turns as if it wants to lock up but once steering gets straight it runs fine... I know that a regular scanner cant pull codes I got to go to transmission shop but chances are there gonna tell me its trans time....

View 14 RepliesMy 2002 mustang with 97k miles just had what has been described to me as a severely overheated transmission. The O/D OFF light was flashing and I noticed some faint smoke and a terrible odor from the burning transmission fluid. I was told by a nearby transmission specialist that it would cost $2500 to rebuild the transmission and put in an external cooling device (which he said was necessary).

View 13 RepliesI have a 2002 Toyota Corolla CE with about 115,000 miles.While I was traveling on the highway my car started shaking, losing power, and the check engine light started flashing. I drove a mile or two to a rest area because I didn't want to pull over on the highway. I had it towed home. It starts and idles, but I'm afraid to get it out on the road.
View 15 Replies2002 7.3 4R100 ... The truck started flashing the O/D light pulling a 9K lb trailer on the highway.
The transmission codes read were P0705 (Range Selector) and P0873 (bad 3-4 shift - RPMs did not drop).
On the highway, the TCC seemed to lock up fine in 4th (OD button was set to leave O/D ON). When the truck would downshift (not often) then it would sometimes would rev high when it downshifted. It was like 3rd was slipping or it was downshifting into 2nd instead of 3rd. I think it was doing a 4-2 downshift but not 100% sure.
What confuses me is that if it is doing a 4-2 downshift then it would have to change state of both valve body solenoids. Is it possible that it was doing a 4-3 shift but solenoid was sort of sticking? Trans fluid looks fine.
I have read other posts where people had same problem (titled 3rd gear slipping), but they never seemed to resolve the problem in the thread. How likely is it that the solenoid is the problem? It seems to drive fine in 3rd when the O/D OFF button is pressed and O/D is not allowed.
We had the transmission rebuilt on Oct 1, 2013. Since then the check TOD light has flashed steadily. The transmission guys could get no codes on their equipment. We took it to another mechanic who replaced the speed sensor, light still flashed so he took it off. Finally found a way to get some codes which indicated neutral safety switch. He tried that, light still flashed, part removed. Tranny was leaking some fluid, so back to transmission shop. They had it for a week, fixed the leak, but could find nothing wrong with TOD, even from ATSG, so we took the car back.
View 3 RepliesI have had a 2002 Prius since December of 2012, and it has been running fine since I got it; while it was in a wreck in May 2013 that has rendered both passenger-side doors and windows unusable, I have not seen that incident cause any other problems, and the car still runs perfectly fine. I am supposed to be driving from my current home state for a job soon, but about a week ago while I was driving on the interstate, the check engine light started flashing.
I was changing lanes and putting a good bit of pressure on the gas in order to pass someone that was going below the speed limit, putting my speed at around 80 mph when the check engine light started flashing. I started getting off of the interstate to find a place to stop and inspect things, but the light stopped flashing when I got down to around 45 mph on the exit ramp, and I was able to drive the rest of the way on the interstate without any trouble, even when I got in the 75 mph range again. The span of time between the light starting to flash and turning off again was probably about a minute or so.
Check Charging System message, battery-shaped idiot light, and audible beep has happened a few times over the past month or so. Yesterday it happened while my wife was driving so I had to bring it to the dealer, not to mention I drove it last night and there was constant beeping for about a minute which was pretty annoying.
But first I had the battery checked, which turned out to be OK. Also we got a new alternator 5 months ago, installed by the dealer.
Today they said they "updated the computer" whatever that means, and otherwise couldn't find anything wrong. $99.85 plus tax.
Needless to say I'm not confident that "updating the computer" has fixed it. What are the odds we get the warning again in a couple of weeks? Short of disconnecting the sensor, is there anything that can be done?
Three weeks ago I replaced my battery and serpentine belt as general maintenance before heading out on a prolonged trip. The next day I started receiving 'check charging system' whenever I turned the a/c on and the truck is at idle. Power steering becomes very hard to turn and engine feels like it is going to quit.
This is not a problem at highway speeds. Looking at the engine when the a/c is engaged, a slow down of the belt/pulley is obvious. The alternator has been removed and checked, battery checked good, and the belt is the right size/length. What could be causing this? Again it started behaving like this after a belt and battery change. There is no issue if the a/c is off...
I'm a rural mail carrier and have been looking for a Sport Trac for a work truck. It's size seems to be ideal. I recently found a 2002 model in excellent shape but it has that large console down the center that has an a/c duct in it for the back seat. For me to be able to use this truck, that would have to be completely removed.
Is this possible? I really need to know as that is the only deal breaker I have with this otherwise fine looking truck.
I replaced the factory head unit with a aftermarket radio. While making adjustments my battery died, I jumped my battery and now I don't have any dash lights. I found 3 blown fuses that I have replaced, however the only lights that don't work is the dash lights. I replaced the headlight switch and the dash lights are still not working?

Recently my air conditioning system only blows warm air in both the front and rear. When I start the vehicle, the Navigation screen flashes the message "Check Air Conditioner", then the A/C button on the Climate screen flashes.
I have searched the forums and read every post regarding this issue, and it seems that one possible fix is the "magnetic clutch relay", but the link to Sewel Lexus lists this part as belonging to the ES330, and NOT the GX470. There is NO such part listed for the GX470 on that website.
One other post suggested that the author pull the AC error codes, but I don't know how to do that on the GX470.
