Ford - Explorer :: 2000 - Windshield Washer Not Spraying?
Mar 18, 2017
On my 2000 OHV Explorer the windshield washer just dribbles. I purchased a new pump and still dribbles.
I took the nozzles and pump from my 2000 SOHC Explorer that worked great and put them on the OHV one and still dribble.
I even cleaned out the lines first. How to get these to function properly?

(04 FX4)... having issues with your windshield washer? The next to last time I used it, I got a dribble, so I figured that I needed fluid...added more fluid, but it was still half full, I pressed the button, I heard noise, probably the pump. but no fluid. Could it be something as simple as a clog? I could tear it apart.

My windshield washer does not spray when I pull the switch, the front and rear do no have any fluid spraying onto the window, I replaced the windshield washer pump with a new OEM, put fluid in the tank, I checked the fuses associated with the wiper blades. I don't think I can even hear the windshield washer pump when I pull on the switch, so could it be a connector issue? or some wiring issue?

I filled my washer tank full, when tried to spray, only the wiper moved but the solution never came.In the evening, i cleaned the spouts, with a tiny pin hoping that it will clear the dirt out, tried, didn't work either. Opened the hood, and saw the tank empty to my embarrassment. Is the pump broken, hose broken , what to look for and where and how to fix ?

I can hear the sprayer motor when I activate the toggle, but no spray from the squirters! (in the past I've encountered this on a honda, usually we'd just pull the squirter and soak it in a cup of solvent then pop it back on after shooting it black) but on the B6 it looks more complicated!!!

My rear windshield washer has stopped working, does the MkVI have a separate pump for the front and rear washer fluid sprayers? My front sprayer is still working, fluid is full, and I don't see any VCDS codes relating to the rear windshield washer motor. Since I am approaching a wet season, it would be best if the rear washer worked. I am still under warranty but just wanted to know if there are two sprayer pumps on our cars.
FWIW, I have not had a problem with the rear washer dripping and no TSB have been performed on the rear washer.

I have an 09 Camry SE. My right windshield spray nozzle is not spraying, it's just flowing out. I ran a small wire down it and nothing changed. I called 2 dealers and looked up the part and there are 5 different angles listed the dealers said I had to remove it so they could match the angle for the pitch of the windshield. Seems ridiculous that they would not know, but the parts breakdown lists all 5.

I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 and for some reason my washer fluid sprayer just stopped working. Yes, the fluid is full...hahaa. So anyways, I checked the fuses and they seem to be ok. What I can check before tearing it apart or bringing it in? How do you know if the motor is bad? Where is the motor located in this car? The wipers are working fine, but it'd be nice to clean the windows.

I have a '96 explorer, v-8 5.0 ....
My windshield washer fluid has stopped coming out of the cleaning nozzles on the rear, driver's and passenger sides. I can hear the pump pumping and have disconnected the hose from the driver's side and ran the windshield cleaner system. Cleaning fluid came out of the hose easily. Then the hose for the rear was tested. Fluid came out of the hose.
The reservoir was emptied and checked to see if there was dirt that might be clogging the intake. It was clean. The nozzles where the cleaning fluid comes out were cleaned with a small wire from both ends. Also a bottle of compressed air was used and air was felt coming through easily. I am thinking the pump might have lost enough pressure that no fluid can be pushed hard enough to come through the very end before it gets sprayed on the windshield. What might be wrong?

I have a 2003 Explorer Sport and the windshield washer pump is not getting power. Owners manual does not show fuse or relay locations.

I recently purchased a 2003 Explorer. Two weeks after I bought it I found out the motor on the windshield washer water pump was shot. The dealership fixed it for free. About a week after I got it back when I was driving in the morning to work I noticed the check gauge light go on and saw that my temp gauge was pointed at HOT!! I pulled over and stopped immediately. As soon as I slowed down the temp gauge went back down to normal. It happened 2 or 3 more times and had it back at the dealership. They are stumped. They sent it to a Ford dealership and they couldn't find anything either.
They said they have checked everything and it is not overheating. They even put a thermometer on it while they drove it and it didn't get over 205* I am surprised it didn't do it to them because it happens almost every morning. I only work 4.3 miles from my house so its not like I am driving very far. It usually happens at about 3 miles. As soon as I see it going up (and I watch it a lot!!) I take my foot off the gas and start to slow down or barely press the brake it goes right back to normal. Then it stays at normal the rest of the day. Is it the sensor or the wiring or did the do something to it when the fixed the washer motor?

I have an 05 F-150 SuperCrew XLT 4x4. I just went to use my wipers and its not spraying anything. The driver side nozzle drips a little bit out, the passenger side does nothing. I can hear the motor engage and there is fluid in the reservoir. I can't see any leaks.

So my wife and I swap vehicles for one day and what happens? It snows like hell and she can't get any wiper fluid to come out!
I started some troubleshooting and missed some clear indicators of the problem.
->Rear fluid works
->No pump engagement when trying the front fluid
Wasn't sure if I had 1 or 2 pumps (separate front and back or just one) so I bought one, tore out the reservoir (that air intake was a tough one), swapped the pumps and PRESTO! Still didn't work.
This leads me to believe I should have realized it was switch/power related all along. I don't mind tearing things apart, but I'm not good with electrical. Should I just buy a new whole stock and see if that works? My fuse isn't blown and seems to also be for the power windows, which do work, so I think I should be fine from that point.

The wipers work fine, but it isn't spraying washer fluid. It's 3 degrees outside. I am not sure if there is a fuse for the washer fluid sprayer motor...

I was out for a short drive this evening and got on it just a little bit to hear that wonderful 6.0 sound and all of a sudden coolant started spraying up on the windshield like I was spraying it from the windshield wipers! My first thought was oh crap I've got a blown head gasket and it puking from my degas bottle. I had a short drive to the house so I eased it on home. My ECT got to 226 with the fan roaring but not cooling it down, luckily it never got over 226. When I got home I opened the hood expecting to see where a bunch of coolant had puked from the degas but instead I saw this. What could cause the radiator to rupture like that? I did spend a good amount of time on my knees on top of the radiator while changing out my oil cooler the first time, then again when I installed my BPD oil cooler. Also I posted in another thread a few days ago about my ECT temps being a little higher than normal, reckon my radiator was clogged and that caused the higher temps and the rupture?

So I obviously checked the fluid levels and added plenty to make sure its not empty.. I don't know if there is some issue with a pump that needs to be warmed up first, or some ice buildup on the nozzles (obviously I didn't see any).
After driving for about 20 minutes it started spraying just fine. Although it doesn't seem to spray very well in the rear window. I'm wondering if it is just the cold temperatures (was around 0-5 at night) or if there is another issue.

I have a windshield washer fluid leak. It's leaking onto the passenger side floor under the dash. Any have a good place to start looking or how to access the area it might be leaking at?

While I was at the shop getting the steering fixed I asked about the inop washer pump. They told me the pump failed.
Anyway 30 minutes later I have replaced it but still does not work.
So what next?
Which fuses do I check (I already checked them but give me specific numbers)
Where are the relay and how do I check them?
How do I test the pump?

I am posting this here as it is in reference to the 5.4 motor but in a 2001 Expedition.
My wife was driving our 2001 Expo the other day and the warning light came on that the windshield washer fluid was low. When she got home I popped the top the re fill the washer fluid and there was what appeared to be green coolant in the reservoir. It even smelled like coolant.
It filled the reservoir about half way which made me wonder why even though it was coolant it made the washer fluid light come on. I then checked the coolant reservoir and it had fluid in it but it looked brown and nasty. The motor is the 5.4. What is going on?
