Ford - Explorer :: 1999 - CEL With P1151 Code?
Aug 31, 2015
A few days days ago I noticed a check engine light and pulled an 1151 code. The truck runs great, like it always does. It's a '99 Eddie Bauer 5.0 with 275K. I turned the code off and a day later it came on again with no difference in the running.

I have a 1999 explorer with a 4.0 ohv auto with about 174,000 miles on it. the PO changed the coil pack, wires, plugs, MAF and cat on it trying to get rid of codes. I know the from searching that they are both precat 02 codes. So I am planning on looking for vacuum leaks with propane around intake and egr and checking on the fuel pressure and wiring and connections. Is there any thing else I should check out? for both sensors to throw this code? The truck runs ok just has a shutter when going up hills and stuff.

I just bought a 2000 expedition 4.6 EB.. Just like an f150 same principles apply. Here's the issue, it has 284k miles. I realize its probably just tired and worn out but it just doesn't have any torque it seems. If you punch it above 60 it barely creeps up the speedo, my 00 f150 4wd with the same engine about same mileage was way stronger. My only code currently is P1151 dealing with the o2. Plugs are new coils and most all else is probably old. Just wondering if something is wrong and not throwing code or if its just a tired engine in a heavy vehicle?

I have a 2000 f150 with a 5.4 past few months it has been throwing a p1151 code meaning it is coming up lean on the driver side. I just changed the plugs and it didn't work, neither did changing the fuel and air filters. cant find any vacuum or exhaust leaks. Replaced a bad injector along with the spark plugs and its still coming up lean.
The truck also seems to bog down at about 50-60 mph if i let off the gas and coast it will drop about 300 rpms. It has me confused and annoyed, i have true duals with glass packs could that be causing it?

I have a 98 ford ranger with a 3.0 v6 it has 228,000miles standard tranny but I keep the truck running great. I did the plugs and wires about two weeks ago and it was running fine, actually great. This morning I got into the truck to start it this morning and it barely started. It fired up but barely stayed idling. I would get into the petal and it wouldn't raise rpms. I had to get to school so I headed out. I couldn't get any speed in gear the truck wouldn't gain speed. It would sputter and pop and then all of a sudden it would go ok but then start popping again. I took it to a buddy shop and his scanner showed p1131 and p1151 both codes. I don't know what to do?

On my wife's '99 Explorer, she just acquired, we had a P0303, #3 cylinder misfire. I found the plug cracked and replaced it. Do the codes reset themselves or do I have to do it? I'd rather not disconnect the battery and reprogram the radio.

I have a 99 Ford Explorer - w/217k miles. (2nd owner) .. I got an oil change 3 weeks ago, tune up 2 mos ago, and new brakes/tires within the last 6 mos, oh, and Brother-In-Law just recharged my a/c last week.
Runs well, and I hope to keep it for another few years, but having problem lately.
Check Engine light keeps coming on - I've taken it in, and they read the code, and it comes up with a misfire. Mechanic resets it, and it will stay off for a few days/weeks, and then comes back on.

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer with the V-6 SOHC that is stuttering and stalling when I try to accelerate. A very slight acceleration will get the vehicle moving, but anything coming close to normal gas pedal pressure causes immediate stuttering and/or stalling. Check Engine light came on when problem started yesterday.
Where is the EVAP System Canister Vent Solenoid? I bought a code reader after beating my head against the truck all afternoon and got code "P1451 EVAP System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction". My Haynes book says on the left side frame rail... can't find anything along there that looks like it (based on picture from Rock Auto for replacement part) and found some people online talking about it being in the engine compartment on the passenger side...
Just crawled all over the truck and I think I found the charcoal canister, but couldn't trace it back to the vent solenoid... There was something right next to the canister, but again, it looked nothing like the replacement part listed on Rock Auto...

My wife started our '99 Explorer last week and she said that the engine was rattling. I started it up when I got home and it sounded like something had let loose in the engine. We took it a local mechanic and he basically said that the motor was shot. I pulled the codes and it doesn't look good to me but I'm not a mechanic. Codes are:
P0301
P0302
P0303
P0173

I have a 2000 with a 5.4 and 166K miles. It had multiple exhaust manifold studs broken on both sides. Now that thay is fixed, I am getting the p1131 and p1151 codes. The EGR tube was also replaced at the time of the manifold fix. I checked over all the tubes and electrical connectors to rule out something simple but did not find anything out of place. The intake manifold was replaced with a new Napa one less than 5K miles ago as well.
Could the leaky exhaust manifolds over time set the fuel trim level high and now that they are fixed, the ECM is thinking it is running too rich? Can the ECM be reset to zero? There is also a ticking/rattling noise when you accelerate that seems to be coming from the fuel injectors. I listened with the stethescope and they are the only things that sound like the noise I hear. Could these all be related?

Alright I might have made a major mistake and I need some input; I just recent bought a 2001 Jetta VR6 131k on it and at first I didn't notice so much but since I've gotten. To drive it more I've noticed it's really sluggish on take off and doesn't seem to shift into 4th gear. Also I started noticing a faint rattling noise. And the CEL is on with the codes P0785, P0411 and P1151.

My MIL has been intermittently showing up, and I'm pulling DTC P1151 - Coolant Heat Storage Tank. This is the only DTC that I'm getting. I have recently replaced the Coolant Control Valve, as I had been getting a P1121, and attempted to refill the coolant myself.

I have a P0401 code that just fired today. I tried to clear the code, but it came right back on the drive home. There are no drivability symptoms so far; just the CEL.
It looks like the DPFE sensor is part of the EGR valve on this model. Do the 401 code usually means that the EGR needs to be changed, or if there are other common causes of this code that I need to check? The DPFE sensor fixed the same issue on my Escape, but that was an easy $34 and 30 seconds repair. Looking for some 2004+ year owners' experience (I guess 2002 and 2003 models had the DPFE?).

My Explorer CEL just came on today, when checked it only brought up a code P0171. I have read through a bunch of the post and it seems most people get two codes where as I only get one. Also most say their vehicles run rough, mine runs great, so I am at a loss as to what to check or replace first. There does seem to be a slight ping when under load.

How to locate the 5 digit code on the SJB on a 06 Explorer EB edition. 1st get a flashlight and a mechanics mirror. Then locate the SBJ above the parking/emergency brake. on the bottom of the SJB there is a cover. If you can remove the cover then do it. It is Stamped on the other side. Or put the seat back and flip upside down on the floor and look with your mirror and flashlight, it is the only 5 digit number STAMPED on it.

I have a 2008 Sports Trac, with a 4.0 SOHC engine ... 165k miles. Last week my check engine (CE) light came on and the code is P0401 ... too little flow on the EGR system. I first tried cleaning the existing valve - but CE light still came on. So I replaced the old EGR valve, cleaned the SS tube from the exhaust manifold back to the EGR valve and the CE light is still on. I have not driven the truck since I replaced with the new valve ... only fired her up in the garage. Is this something that could possibly clear up given a couple of miles?

2007 Ford explorer 4x4 V8, U0101 Failure to communicate with the TCM
Vehicle shifts very hard when under load then and when the Traction control light and the "wrench" light come on it seems to be stuck in high gear, if I stop it takes off like in high gear and never shifts, when I do an ignition cycle then the lights go off and it takes off in first gear and shifts as normal unless it's under load it will bang in and out of gear. Where is the TCM located? On a side note I do hear air like vacuum behind the center console when I press the pedal. Not sure if it has always done this or not.

I recently acquired my dad's old truck. Its a 2002 Explorer EB 4.6L 4x4. Great truck, family owned since new. Recently it has had the service engine soon like pop up and its throwing code P0340. The mysterious cam sensor code.
May I ad that the sensor itself is new, OEM ford. I have just replaced the alternator (which is usually a common problem for this code), and still no luck. The car starts up, still runs great, and has had no hesitation or stalling.
My mechanic friend checked it out and said that it is getting some voltage, but not as much as it should? the wiring to the PCM looked good too. The Ohms on the CMP checked out good too.
I really hope its not the PCM on this car. I may have to just take it into the ford dealer to see if they can diagnose the car. I do work as a tech at a small indy shop, but currently dont have the time since i'm trying to finish my schooling this year.
I just want my car to be in tip-top shape...
