On this '97 explorer, the fan is running, but no air out the defrost, ac, or heat vents no matter what position the switch is in. I tried to read the sticky on the air door, but the link is broken.
View 1 RepliesMy Explorer is a 1997 with the control trac 4x4 system. It's only purpose in life at the moment is to plow snow and its been doing that quite well. I typically leave it in 4lo all the time. Every once in a while, I will switch it to the other modes to ensure they are all working.
Today I was plowing and it looks like I'm getting nothing, or next to nothing to the front wheels. There is some shudder if the rear tires begin to spin, but the front never spin, or lock up. I can feel/hear the transfer case shift when I change modes between auto/4hi/4lo as I usually do, but the front wheels just are not doing their job. All three modes are not driving the front wheels.
The transmission was rebuilt a few years ago, and it's shifting fine. I'm suspecting the transfer case. Only my OD light is flashing, but it only does that once in a blue moon. I plugged my code reader in and it could not read those codes. I was able to clear the light though.
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with 5.0, I have replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap, I drive the truck to work in the mornings (12miles) and it is fine. We live on a mountain and on the way home after getting to the top of the mountain the temperature gauge goes past middle and nears the red but does not overheat completely. Once home I open the hood and the overflow is steaming or sometimes boiling, and I have checked thermostat again to make sure and it is operating normal, I have been told fan clutch, water pump, and I don't want to just throw money at guesses.

View 5 RepliesI have 06 ford explorer in which the air comes out the main vents really weak! I've replaced the Blend Door Actuator thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't . The blower motor works the air gets cold and hot and the defroster and floor vents is where the air comes out strong.
View 3 RepliesTo kick off the coldest week (so far) of the winter season, I noticed a problem with the heater controls in my 06 Explorer with manual temp. controls. No matter which fan settings I select (defrost, panel+floor, etc), air does not blow through some of the vents. I can hear the fan working and air flows through the defrost vents and through the floor vents, but the there is no airflow through the vents below radio and round vents on the far left and far right sides of the dashboard.
Perhaps related to this problem, a couple months ago I replaced the blower motor resistor because fan speeds 1 and 2 did not work, only 3 and 4 worked, so whenever I would turn on the heat or A/C, it was on full blast all the time. After replacing the resistor, the issue was resolved and all of the speeds worked well. I guess I just never realized the issue with the vents, or maybe the problem happened because I replaced the resistor?
Since I'm not too knowledgeable with the climate control circuit, I'm not too sure where to begin, perhaps the switch or blower motor?
2008 Explorer XLT 4.0 ... There is a nasty smell coming from my vents (seems like a chemically smell to me). It's not an anti-freeze smell. I can smell it all of the time even if the fan is not running, but it is so much worse when I turn the heat on. What the smell could be, It doesn't smell like a dead animal to me either. What I can do about it? It's getting cold out and I can turn my heat on without gagging..
View 3 RepliesMy defrost & front vents work fine. My back vents that are in the back of the console switch from hot to cold like it suppose to, but they do not blow out enough to feel it in the back seat or third row seat.
Also when I use the heat the front flat part of the console by the drink holders especially gets red hot to the point it can melt plastic ink pen or anything else you lay there. which concerns me since I have a 9 yr old.
My wife's '02 Explorer has developed an issue with the heat/AC. As far as I can tell, the heat is hot when it's supposed to be hot, and the AC is cold when it's supposed to be cold. But, the problem is that everything only blows out through the defrost vents, no matter what setting it is on.
I know there are other threads on this type of subject, and I have read a lot of them. I thought I had identified that actuator gizmo as the culprit, but the more I read, it didn't seem like the symptoms for that issue are exactly like mine. I want to try and fix it myself, and I'd love to take the time to read everything on the subject, but warmer weather is here and my wife wants it fixed yesterday!
This problem reminds me of the time the vacuum pump went out on my F-350 and the defrost vents were all that would work. I wish this problem would be as easy to fix as that was.
I have a 99 explorer that stops blowing air when I get on the gas or climbing a hill. The motor is still blowing but it stops air coming out the vents. What could be causing this? It works fine other than that.

View 2 RepliesWell I was recharging my a/c yesterday because the system was low so I used one of them 24oz cans and now I am getting cold air out of my passenger side and luke warm air out of my driver side vents. Also if I switch to the different vents I don't get anything out of the floor only. I get air out when I select it, but it's coming out of the defrost. Other than that everything else works just fine, just no floor. I've read issues with the blend doors but my vehicle doesn't have the dual climate controls so I'm at a loss...
View 4 RepliesBought this truck earlier this year, and started to notice from time to time a smell in the cab that can only be described as propane. Truck was sound and the windows were down most of the time so I let it go. Probably not smart. With the windows up more often now, what this could be. It comes and goes. My guess is it's somehow coming through the vents, but what the heck is it? Is there anything in a truck that has mercaptan in it?

View 9 RepliesThe AC works, but just not well enough on a really hot day. On a day in the 90s I have to put it on Max AC and even then it does not cool down for a while and the air out of the vents is not ice cold.
So, it works, but I cannot tell if there is something wrong or not. I recently put in a can of AC Pro and it did not change anything.
I'm guessing my heater core is bad as I smell coolant thru the vents. I think the blend door is broke too. I'm guessing the heater core and blend door are in the same area?
View 2 RepliesI am having problems with the blower on my truck. I can feel the air coming from vents no matter what setting on it. I think it maybe the blower itself as it was working and just quit. Is there a fuse for the blower that I can check? And I have the V6 4.2L 2 wheel drive
View 8 RepliesMy A/C is blowing cold but only thru the defrost vents. First it was blowing normally from the dash but during acceleration or under load, the a/c would randomly blow from any vent, from the floor, dash, defrost. Now that stopped and it only blows from the defrost vents above the dash-board.
1997 F-150 XLT, 4.2 Liter, V6, manual transmission.
I am to take a road trip within the next week, but recently my vehicle had been running hot and leaking coolant. I only discovered this problem when I turned on my A/C. I diagnosed the problem that the seal on my radiator was giving way when too much pressure built up and that's what caused the coolant leak. Do this trip would put too much pressure on my coolant system with the consistent driving. The trip is a 18-19 hrs drive, and I'll only be driving one-way. There won't be a return trip. Can I wait to get my radiator replaced when I get there or will I be risking it if I drove with the radiator in this condition?

Mine fell off and fell down the engine and melted quite a bit. Also the part number on my piece doesn't work anywhere, that I have typed it in. Mine has a Ford part number of 1L2U-9F764-AC. Also need to know the proper Ford number. I have a picture I found online with an arrow pointing to the piece I need.
View 1 Replies2001 F150 5.4 4wd - AC not working but when I turn the temperature dial to the blue side and turn on the fan, super hot air comes out of the vents or wherever I direct the fan to blow (Floor, defrost, etc) I know it shouldn't blow ice cold especially since my AC doesn't work but.....shouldn't I feel a temp change coming from the vents when I move temp dial from the red area to the blue? It's max heat wherever I have it set.
