I have a `95 explorer with the 4.0 motor. The electronic overdrive off indicator light (O/D Off) on dash started flashing today. The transmission seems to be shifting into overdrive. Owner's manual says to have it checked as damage can be caused. What I should be checking?

View 1 RepliesI have a 1995 Explorer 4x4, and starting last month i have been having an intermittent problem with bang shifting, the only time the bang shifting occurs is when the overdrive off light flashes, the only time the O/D Off light flashes is after driving the interstate or driving around town on hot days, after a few days or a few weeks the light turns off and its shift normal and no bang shifting, but i have a new problem now, the O/D Light off started flashing last night after driving the interstate and I noticed on my way home that it wont shift, it hit 4000rpm and i had to tap the break and accelerate again to make it shift, I went to AAMCO and they wont give me the codes the only thing they said is they want to do a soft parts rebuild, and something about hte gear ratio being off, i dont have the money to spend for a new trans or have one rebuilt, i would like to fix this myself.

View 19 RepliesThe OD OFF light starts flashing by itself and I can't get it to go out. Everytime it does this, the car is sluggish, won't pull very good at stop signs and kicks hard when down shifts. Thought it was weather related but it doesn't matter what the temp. is. Eventually it will go out by itself and everything is fine.

When I get off the highway and drive in town with o/d light flashing the truck downshifts hard when slowing down at stoplights.,also when almost to stop i hear ticking sound in tranny until i come to complete stop. In addition, a couple times the overdrive light has flashed orange, during which time the overdrive is not engaging for the car. Everything else with the car seems normal, just no overdrive. View 4 RepliesI just bought an older 1995 Ranger XLT 4.0 I was told that the truck is stuck in overdrive. The overdrive light is not working and the button does not respond. It shifts smooth but run away with it's self. It is not shifting a lot going up hill and curves.
I got a diagnostic and it did not show codes. I was told the trani has had an oil change and filter with no metal parts in the oil. Since the overdrive switch is know for a short in the steering column maybe when they looked at it they did not know what they were doing.
I am driving it only once or so a week. But don't want to hurt it. A friend did the first work and had it diagnostic done yesterday.
The cruise control and the overdrive off dash lights go out when I turn on the headlights. The cruse control and overdrive still work but the dash lights are not lit. It is a 95 4door explorer.

View 3 RepliesMy 2000 Explorer overdrive light will blink once in awhile no hard shifting, no slipping, i also pushed the overdrive button while it was doing this and it went out of overdrive , trans has been service, I know this is a common issue with explorers . I understand that it could be caused by a number of issues. I haven't had the codes pulled yet.

I would like to know where the TSS is located and then see if it has corrosion other reason not to connect.
I got this code and symptoms of 1-2 hard shift and no torque converter lockup. No flashing overdrive light on shifter. If I switch off engine all shifts are smooth until I pass 45mph. I would feel the TCC lockup. This doesn't happen the as i come to a stop I get a harsh 2-1 shift. Key off restart then shifts smoothly up and down provided I dont exceed the TCC lockup speed. This leads me to the TCC solenoid I think. Fluid has been changed regularly.
Had to drive 300 miles to get home. Only for the plate trans cooler the fluid would have overheated as on inclines on cruise control the engine would rev to 3k to keep the speed at 70mph and I could see the fluid temp increasing. Fuel consumption was very bad almost a full tank (with no ac). Doing some research there is talk about valve gasket blowout Epc solenoids etc, though these were for Rangers and Explorers, no real mention of Aerostar.
I have a 2004 f150 with an edge programmer. My transmission will only stay in 3rd gear, the overdrive light is flashing, and it is giving these dtc's: p0720, P0722, P0731, P0732, P2106.... What is going on?
View 1 RepliesI have a 03 ranger with a v6/auto trans. it drives fine around town. after i get on the freeway the overdrive light will start flashing. when i get off the freeway it will shift extremely rough. if i turn the truck off and right back on it will be fine again. What could be the problem?
