My 2002 excursion 7.3 is acting weird when in drive. I have to get to around 2k rpm to get moving and hard shifts. But if I put it in 1st it has no problem but in 2nd i have hard vibration that shakes whole truck.
View 5 RepliesBought a brand new f150 45 days ago.The truck shakes at 5mph and at 40/50 mph. Have had it to the dealer 4 times. Twice they changed a tire and balanced the rest. The truck also doesn't shift properly which they say is normal. It is a supercab with an 8 ft bed,told it is characteristic of this vehicle and they refuse to do anything further to it.
Filed a complaint with Ford Motor and he contacted the dealership,the service manager told them that it does shake and that it runs better than some and not as good as others. REALLY!!! So the resolution is that they gave us a premium extended warranty,with no fix. The problems are classic drivetrain problems and they won't even look at it. I don't know what to do next. I can't even trade it in without taking an 8000.00 hit.
Its not the tires/wheels. I just had them balanced. It only shakes when hard accelerating. If I am easy on it, then smooth as can be. It gets worse with the RPM of the engine. I am thinking its in the tranny.
It still shifts smooth and I have been pulling 17 mpg on the interstate with it. So I know its acting correctly? Could I have blown something in the trans or ballooned the torque converter?
It just started the other day, I drove about 350 miles on vacation and noticed it when I went to come home. Like i said it only shakes when you lay in to the throttle, and it gets kinda violent.
He has a 2002 Explorer 4.6. The truck is having a hard time going into reverse intermittently, hard shift in normal driving and thinks it has slipped in first gear going up his driveway that is steep. He is worried that he put slightly over sized tires and this may hurt his tranny. The overdrive has blinked twice with in the year. Possible problems that could create this he is thinking solenoid pack, servos, torque converter. The truck has 110k and never done fluids, Would lucas slip fix or hurt we have heard that these tranny's are finicy.
View 1 RepliesI have a 03 ex with a V10. Just recently my trans has started giving me problems. Sometimes when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd I get what feels like a slight slip. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all. Feels almost like it is downshifting for a second. It also doesn't seem to make any difference whether I am hard on the gas or not.

View 12 RepliesSo I started to notice a vibration only when the truck is under power at about 65 plus MPH...
Now I already know I have a driver's side front wheel hub that needs replaced and the springs are typical Excursion springs (they all 4 need replaced), but this is the first time I have experienced the vibration.
Before you ask...the steering wheel does not vibrate. The vibrations can be felt at my feet and they create a low toned droning vibration that starts at about 65 mph.
When I'm cruising down the highway at 75 mph and take my foot of the accelerator, the noise and vibration basically goes away.
My diagnosis (and a few probably "stupid" questions): u-joints are going bad...
Could it possible be something else? How long they may last before I "have" to change them? What is the worst thing that could happen if they completely fail?
Had mechanic check suspension components, alignment is fine, nothing looks damage or needs to be replaced. Tires are 35 inch and practically brand-new...
View 3 RepliesI had a 7" icon installed with reservoir shocks installed. Rides pretty good driving unless I hit a dip or bump. When either of those are steep down or up I have a very hard hit. Could the shocks not have enough travel? I am at a loss to explain except it is a pretty hard contact. It looks like the shocks have about 3-4" of shaft exposed on the shock. Unfortunately I do not think I can post pictures yet.

View 13 RepliesSo my 01 has been parked in the garage for about 2 months. Normally on battery tender but it accidentally got unplugged and I didn't realize til yesterday when I went to start it. So I got the battery charged up and put air in my rear drivers tire since every time it sits it goes flat. Well I did all this I so I could take it to get tires today.
Driving to work and its shaking pretty bad at highway speed. Don't recall it doing this yesterday. Never really did this before either. The truck also pulls hard to the right. Its done this for a while so I'm not sure if it's just the tires or needs alignment or something else. Or all of the above.
I'm mainly concerned with why it was shaking. The front tires don't look low however I will check the pressure on my lunch hour today.
I have a 2000 V10 2WD Excursion with 104,000 miles. Last week it started shifting hard between first and second, but only when I am between 1500-2k RPMs. If I rev the engine higher, it shifts smooth. I checked the fluid and it is fine. I rarely tow anything except my little trailer to the dump every few months. I have a few questions:
1. Should I drop the pan and change the tranny filter?
2. Should/Can I check the rear diff fluid? (haven't noticed any leaks)
3. Could an inline flush and fill work?
4. I saw a post about a speed sensor in the rear diff. Could this be the issue?
I've seen this talked about before and it's happened to me before as well but now the tranny is leaking onto my Ypipe a couple times per week and it's giving me a hard time when I try to reverse. revs drop and it stalls if I don't give it enough gas.
So I know I have to change the seal but Ford is telling me the torque converter will need to be replaced but another transmission shop told me once the seal is changed and fluid level set appropriately I shouldn't have the reversing problem anymore?
Is this something I could attempt myself... looks almost like I'd have to move the exhaust to drop the tranny...
As it turns out, my shift cable wasn't bad. The transmission lever coming out of the transmission doesn't want to move very easily. When in gear, it shifts fine as it should, so I'm thinking something is bad with the lever. Problem is, I don't know what could possibly be causing it.

I looked down and saw the overdrive off light flashing. Got to work, turned the car off then started back up and the light was off. Any thoughts?
View 14 Replies2003 Limited 6.0 130K. Just took a 1000 mile trip for spring break. While away, I noticed a small leak near the front passenger side of the truck. It is red so I assumed it was transmission fluid. It is leaking from, the best I can describe, a small housing that looks like it might be a filter near the tire (it looks like the old style canister oil filter housings). All the hoses are clean and where the hoses go into the radiator are clean. Is this an easy fix? I am a bit worried about trying to get the thing off without damaging the hoses.

When I got the truck I noticed it would slam hard into reverse. Ever since it is taking longer to engage reverse gear and now I have to rev it to 1000 rpms for it to engage with a hard SLAM.
I also noticed that if I do a fast take off, there is a knocking sound coming from drive shaft/differential area (like knock knock knock knock knock then goes away). Then a slight vibration ending at around 30 kph (~20 MPH). There is also some oil leaking from the transmission. I added some mercon sp yesterday - it was a bit low.
My guess for the knocking and vibration is the center support bearings and U-joints. Transmission??? One thing I know I am going to be banging away at that shaft but the transmission problem really scares me.
I have recently found what sounds like a grinding/vibration issue that occurs between ~2100-~2300 RPM's in my truck. After some googling, I thought it may be the inspection plate being a bit bent/loose. I took the cover off and drove around and the noise still occurred.
Things I have noticed:
-Occurs between 1-2 and 2-3 (had trouble with the other gear changeovers as I just have slow backroads around me to test over my lunch break- can test further in the future)
-Occurs during acceleration and deceleration
-Starts at ~2100 and ends ~2300 RPM
Any thoughts for next steps to diagnose? Truck has ~160k on it and I don't really have many service records (purchased within the past 3k miles and problem just started occurring after this past weekend). Transmission fluid seems to be in decent condition.
Not sure if it would affect anything, but I just got back from my first trip with the Excursion where I actually needed to utilize the 4WD. There was much more aggressive terrain than what it is used to seeing on the pavement. Thought I should mention that as well.
V10, if that matters (I recall reading somewhere that '99 7.3s with the auto had documented torque converter issues that warranted a TSB)....
2006 chevy 4.3 v6 5 speed manual trans. Very hard to shift into and out of gear , the truck has about 80,000 miles on it , its had the new trans fluid gm replaced for smoother shifting. If you hold the clutch pedal down on the floor hard it works fine. It all most like the pedal it screwed up. The pedal ass is plastic junk, I am thinking the pedal is bended. The clutch does not slip and I tried bleeding the clutch master cylinder and there are no leaks anywhere !
View 9 RepliesThe X has 107K on the clock. I have a 6 quart after market aluminum diff cover installed with Royal Purple 75W-140 synthetic gear oil and no limited slip additive in the gear oil. When I make a left or right turn, I get this vibration like the limited slip clutch pack is engaging then disengaging. It is not a thump or thud but just a subtle vibration. I don't hear any noise but I just feel the vibration. It happens either going forward or backing during a turn and is more noticeable when pulling a load and turning. Going straight down the road I hear no noise and feel no vibration. I thought I would ask before I pulled the diff cover off.
