My reverse lights and back up alarm will not engage unless i hold up on the shifter while in reverse the only thing i found was a adjuster for the indicator....
View 14 RepliesI recently changed the bushings and installed SS kit. I don't know if this was the case before, but now while in any gear, i can still move it approx half inch to the right and half inch to the left.
I checked everything and all screws are tight. Could it be that the shifter cables need adjustment?
Our cars shifter does not engage properly to Drive position. It comes down to D but the car just revs up or does not pick speed when we hit gas. we have to adjust/move it up and down to engage it. other position seems to be working fine. what could be the problem?
View 6 RepliesEverything I've seen in the forum refers to alarms activating and how to turn them off, my problem is the opposite. Last year I performed a simple injector cup procedure on my 2000 7.3 Excursion which took about 3 months, during which time I had my batteries removed. When I finally buttoned everything back up I noticed that my alarm does the "chirp", but that I can leave a window rolled down and open any door without it going off. How to get this to reset? I can hit the panic button and get the alarm, but as a security feature it's not working.

View 4 RepliesI had to make a few trips up and down the snow covered driveway. I moved the dash switch to 4wd high for each trip and then back to 2wd when I was turning around at each end. On my final trip back, I got stuck while turning around in 2wd. I tried switching to 4wd high and low but could not get either to engage with rocking back and forth.
The dash light did not come on and only the rear right wheel was spinning. Shifting to park or neutral and turning the switch to 4wd did not change the results. When I finally got myself unstuck, the 4wd still wouldn't engage when driving in a straight line.
What could have broke or stopped working? Bad vacuum line? Bad fuse? Could I have still initiated 4wd by manually locking the hubs? If so, is the process with the dash switch still the same even when manually locking the hubs?
Quick question, on the R32 manual shifter, is there a way to get the shifter to reverse by pulling the stick back instead of pushing forward for an up shift?
I have an E46 M3 w/ SMG which shifts this way and I am strongly considering an R32. It would be nice to reverse the shift pattern to stick w/ what I am used to.
The backup alarm sounds when I put the truck in reverse when there is nothing behind me. I found posts about people not getting any sound at all but none like mine. I'm guessing I have at least bad sensor that 'thinks' there's something in the way when there isn't.
View 5 RepliesMonday I started my truck after leaving it in the garage while on a 8 day vacation. Shifting into reverse led to almost no movement at all. After a few seconds, I shifted back into park and then reverse again and got a solid reverse right away. I may have noticed sluggish shifting into reverse previously, but not this noticeable. What could be the culprit?
2001 Excursion 7.3 4x4 .....
My 2000 ford excursion gauges fuse keeps popping. It started earlier this year and I couldn't pin point when it would pop. Now I'm sure after 30.00 worth of fuses that it happens when I change the gear shifter from park or rev to drive.

2009 Santa Fe 3.3L AWD
70k KMs / 43k Miles
Temp has been very cold, -20C / -4 F
Car starts up without any problems. Try to put car in Reverse and the shifter is very hard to move, if it moves at all. When I am able to get it into Reverse, I then try to put it in Drive and it does not "engage" the "D" and the car behaves like its in Neutral. Moving the shifter back to Park, Neutral, Drive is very difficult and sometimes it will not go into Park. The dash lights do not illuminate the selected P, R, N, D.
However, once the car is warmed up (no longer on C on the temperature gauge) I can with a little effort move the shifter freely (but more effort than it should take) and the car behaves normally. Gear shifts are smooth and in general it is operating normally.
The dash lights do illuminate the selected P, R, N, D. I've checked the Trans fluid level and it appears to be normal and was planning to change it this w-e but I'm no longer sure it will work. Even if it has never been changed.
Also note that I have recently changed a wheel/hub bearing due to a noise that sounds a lot like loud tires on a highway. The bearing change did not eliminate the noise and I assumed that I've changed the wrong one. The noise does not appear to be coming from the Trans, but I cant be 100% sure. The noise is speed related and occurs only after about 20KM/h 16MPH. Unsure if they are related..
I've searched and can only find instructions/details on 6.4L and older Super Duty trucks. The process is the same to adjust the gear box for a 6.7L?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 4x4 with 237k miles on the original 4R100. Yesterday afternoon I went to back out of a parking space and the truck wouldn't move. When I put it in R, the transmission will engage and upon pressing the gas pedal it acts like it wants to move but will not budge. It rolls forward with no issue or noise. It will not roll backwards at all - not in neutral and not in reverse. The transmission shifts fine but with some hesitation to engage each gear. I have noticed some slippage but nothing crazy.
I 1st thought something might be wrong with the rear end but after some research I think it might be the transmission.
The other day my transmission was driving fine, until I stopped to let someone out. When I tried to throw it back into gear, it wouldn't engage at all, just had a slight grind almost like the sound of a chain coming off a bike (so I pushed back in the clutch and parked it). I haven't been having any issues with it nor have I been driving it hard.
View 2 RepliesMy 2013 tiguan dsg blue motion tdi 4 motion traveled around 75mile when going down a steep hill suddenly slowed as if I hit the brakes and the little spanner lit up on the centre display, when I tried to accelerate up the hill it jumped 2nd & 4th gears for the next 2mile, when I stopped it would not engage reverse gear, I turned off the engine, after a few minutes restarted then all was back to normal as if nothing had happened.
View 4 RepliesMy Excursion is having an issue with the 4x4 system. The. 4x4 selector switch on dash lights up properly for 4x4, but the auto hubs don't actually engage. The hubs will lock only if I manually lock the hubs. I can hear relay click, so I don't think its electrical. The hubs had new o rings installed when I did front ball joints a few thousand miles ago, and the 4x4 worked fine up until today.

View 9 RepliesMy transmission has started acting weird. When it's cold it seems to be not as bad. First thing is when I put it in reverse it hesitates for a few seconds then goes into gear. Second it will drive great then just out of no where start shifting very hard then go back to shifting smooth again. Third when pulling a load it won't always start in 1st gear when you come to a complete stop sometimes it tries to start off in 4th.
View 8 RepliesI've put about 500 miles on my new to me 06 F250 4x4, CC, SB, V-10. One thing that is slightly annoying is the shifter position in R, L, 1 and 2. Shifter is against my knee in those positions. Re bent the shifter to place the more to the right? I have buckets with a console so I don't need to worry about a center passenger's legs. I have plenty of benders and metal working tools at my disposal, just asking for some guidance.
View 2 Replies2003 Excursion 4wd. Noticed a few days ago that when selecting reverse, it seemed to take longer to actually go into gear. Didn't think much of it and it has been fine since. Pulled the camper a few hours away for the weekend..
Now the truck is slow to engage reverse. Even when warm, when I put it in Reverse, it takes up to 30 seconds or so for it to 'catch'. I checked fluid and it's ok. Shifter feels ok. Fwd gears are fine?
2002 excursion with 7.3 diesel. A while ago i had problems with it not starting, and a buddy of mine worked on neutral safety switch. It was the issue, and it then worked. shortly thereafter, i noticed the backup sensors were not working, and figured it was just my luck. what i also didn't notice was the rear lights were not going on when i put it in reverse.
Just so happened one day when I put it in reverse i was a little off in the shifting and the backup sensor worked. I played around and discovered that when i lightly shifted into R (so that it was much more towards Park) things worked. so we ended up trying to adjust it some more. As of now, still doesn't engage backup sensors or reverse lights, and I have to hold the shifter up hard into park to start it. if i don't it wont start. How do I get it to adjust correctly?
