View 14 RepliesI recently had my rear axle seals replaced due to leaking. Does the rear diff fluid get replaced on that repair since the rear diff cover comes off? Trying to figure out when my next interval for changing rear diff fluid should be.
View 1 RepliesLooking at an '05 F-150 XL this afternoon with a 5.4 and factory tow package. Is there a way to ascertain the gear ratio and the presence of a T-Lok diff without crawling under the truck? Vehicle has 100,000 miles. Anything I should check out in particular?
View 2 RepliesMy Wife's Explorer rear diff grinds after long highway driving. around town, it never happens, but on long trip, once you start a turn you can hear and feel the grinding coming from the rear end. it is 4wd
View 3 RepliesProblem on early 2001 Sport Trac 4X4. I don't have the whining but a clunk when I go over bumps. I jacked up the left side and I can pull the rear wheel in and out maybe a 1/32 and I hear the clunk so I'm sure the loose rear end is the problem. How do I go about fixing it? New/used rear end? Mine is a 2001 (drum rear brakes)...
View 3 RepliesWhile I have routinely seen a little fluid seep from the bottom/back of a Rear Diff, I have never seen it from the front where the drive shaft enters.....until I looked under my '12 F150 yesterday. Have any of you had this problem on your truck? It is at 86,000 miles. Mostly highway, with some 3000lb towing on weekends. I may have until failure?
View 5 RepliesI have a pretty good leak coming from the front of the rear diff. is this a common problem on the 10.5 ? How hard are these to do without a lift? I still have warranty left but will have to swap out exhaust so its almost a toss up whether I do the seal myself. Also was considering a new posi unit because seems like the original is about toast, might be a good excuse to swap a new one in. 2009 with 95,000 on it. Bought it a year ago with 70,000 on it, the rear was dry till at least 90,000. I serviced the fluid at about 90,000 and didn't have a leak so now a couple thousand miles and its gushing???????
View 7 RepliesI have a 99 F-250 superduty and my rear diff cover is pretty rotted and i need to replace it. I am on a college budget and i need a cheap one that will get the job done...
View 7 RepliesWhat the exact part number is for the seal for the rear axle in a 2003 F150 4x4 ?? Mine decided to leak yesterday and so I looked up Ford for the part but there's two .. one is thick and one is not. I don't want to take the seal out first to look because I got no other vehicle to get it and putting it back in and out would be silly.
View 4 RepliesI seem to not be catching a whole lot of luck lately. The rear end on my F550 has a bunch of play. Going reverse to drive it clunks pretty bad but no ujoints are bad. I can rotate the yoke by hand and hear clunking so i am guessing the ring and pinion are bad, at 100,000 miles. Seems like the rear ends should be more stout than that, certainly look it.
Where to find a source for reman third members since this one had a drop out? Most axle places won't touch it
I am changing the rear Diff fluid in my 1999 F250 Super Duty with limited slip differential. I have read in the manual that 8 ounces of friction modifier is required, ford dealer said it only required 4 ounces. I bought 8.
Also I asked for a inspections plate gasket and ford said use silicone... When I removed inspection plate it had a gasket. So, silicone or gasket or both? Differential capacity is 6.9 pints 75w/140w synthetic.
How do you clean rear sunroof drains on '06 Explorer? I can't seem to see the rear drains. Do I have to drop the roof liner to get access or is there a way to blow them out from their exit point? BTW, I haven't found their exit yet, so knowing where they exit would be useful as well.
I'm getting an intermittent leak with water coming through the map light. I've resealed all screws and around the inserts for the luggage rack. I've also tried running water through the front drains which seems to be unclogged.
So i bought my car 3 weeks ago knowing it had a bad rear diff vw is wanting to charge 2500 to 3000 to replace it (and i work sales). If i've found some used ones.
View 14 RepliesToday I took the bed off of my 99 ranger. I was sitting on the cab looking down at the rear axle noticed the drive shaft was not entering the rear diff perfectly straight. As I looked further into it, I noticed the distance between the rear spring on the passenger side tire, is noticeably different. To visualize it, the wheel, at the bumper side of the axle, has a shorter distance between it and the leafs than the cab side. Not massive, but a few inches, and it's noticeable now that I can stand over it. I'm beginning to be very annoyed by this truck and it's previous owners, whom I take it , scammed my brother quite well with a $5k tag for a truck with so much not right with it. It's about to become my yard art for awhile.
View 8 RepliesWhile diagnosing an issue with my ebrakes I found the drivers rear axle seal was leaking coating the ebrakes in gear oil, replaced the seal. Decided to pull the differential fill plug and check to make sure it was full - drained a good bit out pulling the hub to replace the seal. To my horror this is what I find when I pull the plug. First photo is as it came out on the magnet - second is after a clean up. What is it? I am almost afraid to drop the cover....
View 14 RepliesSo I put the R up in the lift today to look for a rattle underneath and I ran into this..
View 7 RepliesI am looking for the codes for the tranny and rear diff on my 04. I know the engine is a AXQ but I can't figure out what the 6sp Auto and locking rear diff is. Where on the vehicle I might find these?
View 3 RepliesI just picked up an 09 F250 a couple of weeks ago and I was planning on replacing all the fluids since I'm not sure when everything had been done in the past, but it did pull a camper 5th wheel. It has about 93000 Km/57000mi on it
One thing I noticed when reading the manual is that a rear diff fluid change is not necessary on these rear axles unless they have been submerged in water or repaired etc..
Just after I got it I noticed the pinion seal was leaking. It was fixed under warranty but the dealer did not replace the diff fluid as they said Ford will not pay for it.
My question is do you think I need to replace the diff fluid or should it still be good, given the relatively low mileage.
I have a 2002 F450 2WD AT with the common Dana 80 4.88:1 posi rear diff. If I change the ring & pinion to 4:10 do I need to change the carrier or does my current carrier fit 4:10 & lower [4.63,4.88, 5.13 etc]? Will I need to adjust my speedo readings & if so how is this accomplished? Electronically via the diagnostic port?
View 5 RepliesI've been trying to order a 2009 or 2010 V6 TDI. I'm being told by dealers in the seattle area that I can't order an '09, and also that the 2010 will not have the Air suspension, or Rear diff lock.
View 18 RepliesSince purchasing my T-Reg, I've heard a cranking sound, from what I assume is the rear diff at speeds from 1-5 mph. I only really hear it when I'm turning int a parking spot or parallel parking. I know the rear diff will spin the wheels at different speeds and I know at low speeds there can be some noise, but, since most passenger suvs don't have rear diffs, and some level of engineering has removed that nuisance from center diffs, it's not heard of to much. Is this something I need to have looked at?
