Started Ex yesterday morn for a couple minutes then all of a sudden radio went dead along with fuel gauge and digital odometer. I shut down then re-fired and all worked again.
View 4 RepliesSo my radio occasionally when playing CD's will throw a "CD ERROR" on it's little digital screen. What happens is I will play a CD it will be playing fine, and not every time but sometimes the next CD I put in won't play and I get the error. Oh and when I eject CD's they are quite hot. Not burn your fingers hot, but hotter than from any other player I have had.
View 1 RepliesWent out to start my 150 last Wednesday. It started up, then quit, and then wouldn't start again. Later that night, it started up and then kept running. Called up a couple of auto parts stores and was told it was probably the fuel pump. The next day, we got it running and took it into the shop. They couldn't figure out what the problem was, so we took it back on Friday. On Saturday, I drove it about 40 miles, then parked it for about an hour, then it wouldn't start up again.
The mechanic came and checked it, said it almost certainly was the fuel pump, then he got it started with some brake cleaner. I drove it home and then later drove it again. I made a stop and it wouldn't start again. Had to get it towed to the shop. They spent all day Monday changing the fuel pump and filter and thought it was fixed. I picked it up and had no problems that night. My wife drove it Tuesday about 50 miles and had no problems with stopping or starting it. I went to start it up Tuesday evening and it died again and wouldn't start up.
I have a 2012 Buick Enclave that the fuel gauge fluctuate. It is not in sync with digital readings. When parking down hill the gauge goes to full. After driving a while the needle will move up a little. Even when on level ground it will fluctuate.
View 4 RepliesI already searched and seemed to only find info about, no backlight but lcd readout was still working. My backlight reacts to the lights being turned off and on; so I know it works but just no numbers. I noticed it on the way to work after the truck had been sitting in the hot sun for a while but When I got off work after dark around 11:00pm it worked all the way on the drive home, but I went to grab a bite and it no longer worked. I figure it could have something to do with sitting in the heat? It's the stx cluster with only the speedo and no tac if that makes a difference. I really don't want to have to drop cash on a new cluster.
View 12 RepliesThe odometer light turns on and off (mostly off) and seems to be getting worse. The repair shop I go to said its a dealer item and they usually send them out to a specialized shop, the dealer said replace instrument cluster. I may not be the best but I would like to try a few things before I shell out the money. I read that it may simply be the connections at the Instrument cluster plugin which might just need cleaning, read another fix which involved Pencel soldering, Cold Solders on the instrument clusters circuit board.

I will be driving along and all of a sudden the digital odometer readout will go blank and the speedometer will drop to 0 if I was going 60 mph or below or to 120 if I was going over 60 mph.
Where do I start troubleshooting?
I have a 2002 Prius, and I have been struggling trying to get it fix. But it's either one thing to the next without completely knowing what's what. Recently, the right front bearing and the left rear bearing, both front struts/shocks, right balljoint, and two front brakes were replaced.
Before these replacements, I had a P1436 code for the valve which was lube but nothing happened. Then after replacing the front struts/shocks, turn the car on for a test drive, brake light and check engine light came on, speed odometer it not working. I used the OBII scanner from autozone and got P0500 said: vehicle speed sensor A malfunction.
I have an erratic fuel gauge. I have to reset odometer at every gas fill up to keep track of mileage. Need to replace the unit but I tried the GM Fuel treatment Plus in the gas tank first.

View 5 RepliesI drive a 2001 Buick Century. Sometime last month (or maybe the month before), my digital odometer was on the fritz. There's a little sub-partition to my dash that houses my digital odometer as well as the indication as to what gear i'm in (PRND32). So it started fading a little, then on some days it wouldn't light up at all. I know the odometer is still working, because on the days when it would light up, it didn't pick up where it left off, rather it had been working the whole time I couldn't see it. And this started going in and out more and more frequently until now it hasn't lit up in about a month.
So, i take my car into my mechanic for an oil change (just had to guess at how close i was to 3,000 miles) and I ask him about it. He tells me that it'd cost so much in time and parts that I might as well not even fix it.
So now what? I'm fine just driving around without it. I know what gear I'm in without my car having to tell me, and I guess I can just estimate when to get my oil changed, although it's rather inconvenient. But what do I do when I want to sell it or trade it in? The longer I go without knowing my mileage, the farther afield an estimate will be.
You know, what I was thinking is that I really just need someone to run a red light and total my car. Then insurance would cover me and the odometer would be low on my list of worries. I just hope the airbags still work...
The odometer only displays partial pieces of the digital numbers. Can this be fixed? If so, how would you go about it?
View 9 RepliesToday I noticed my fuel gauge giving a low fuel light. I had just fill up 50 miles earlier. Stop fr fuel anyway and could only put 1 3/4 gallons in so the tank is full.
After fueling the gauge went up off the low fuel mark about what I had put in. The only other consideration was the batteries were down and charged last night.
Question. What do I look at first?
I have a problem with my fuel gauge, after a fuel tank cleaning it stops working. I check both senders and seems to be OK, but the digital gauge is blinking and the analog gauge is down to zero. I measure the resistance value directly on the senders plugs and shows 100 ohms at the end. I check the wires between the senders and both are OK. I need to know if the car computer must be resettled after a gauge failure, or there is only a sender malfunction. I want to fix this by myself. I need a service manual or a wiring diagram to do this?
View 5 RepliesI have been chasing down what was a perceived vacuum leak...
My Ex (V10, 4x4, 217K miles) started to have an intermittent rough running/no power situation very randomly. No codes on the scanner, and no real apparent cause or condition to pin it down. I noticed what sounded like a like throttle ping...figured it was a vacuum leak someplace in the spaghetti under the hood.
I began to run down the possibilities. I have recently had the entire suspension replaced and upgraded all 4 corners to Power Stop brakes. Figured it might be something related like the classic lines to the hubs.
Replaced the vacuum lines to the hubs - ran OK for a bit, then rough start/idle/no power.
Replaced the vacuum switch for the hubs - ran OK for a bit, then rough start/idle/no power.
Replaced fuel filter - ran OK for a bit, then rough start/idle/no power.
Ordered a new vacuum reservoir...
While waiting on that, changed all 10 plugs and coils. Not. Cheap. Ran OK for a bit, then rough start/idle/no power.
Replaced IAC - ran OK for a bit, then rough start/idle/no power.
As I was getting ready to install the vacuum res, it just croaked. it would turned over like it wanted to start, but wouldn't catch.
Of course.... So, now it had to be towed and yes, the fuel pump puked and that was that. I've never had one do anything but just quit suddenly before, so lesson learned. Evidently these pump can act up for a bit before they die.
Fuel gauge reads full all the time except when the key is off. Also the temp gauge reads low. Just barely on the mark for normal.

Also when he hooked it up was told the dash gauge worked fine and the computer showed 60% which would have been about right based on mileage on the tank. My guess is that I need a sending unit?
So I had the brakes services yesterday at a new shop in town. Normally I wouldn't do this, I like to do it myself. After I dropped the truck off I get a call a while later and the service tech tells me that the passenger front caliper is the wrong one. He says it's actually for the drivers side, but who ever did the brakes last just flipped it upside down and put it on the passenger side. So in essence, I have two drivers side calipers on the front of my truck.
I got under ther and looked and the bleeder screw is on the bottom on the passenger side. I would assume it's supposed to be on the top like the others?
So here's my questions......
1. Is it even possible to put the drivers side on the passenger side (upside down?)
2. Is it really the wrong caliper? It has been working for over two years like this with no ill effects.
3. Should I worry about it if in fact it is the wrong caliper?
I've never done the brakes on this truck actual truck myself. I really hate taking things to the shop because you never know if they are trying to scam you, which I'm pretty sure they were. I left there with only new pads...
I got in my 06 f250 tonight and my digital read out on my temp control not working. My heater and A/C works but when I turn it off my outside temp is not on. Whats going on?
View 3 RepliesJust wondering how accurate the digital gas gauge on the Prius c is? My current 04 Prius has a notoriously inaccurate gas gauge: It often gives me an incorrect reading showing much less fuel than I actually have. It is even worse in the winter.
View 19 RepliesThe fuel gauge sender quit the other day so Im replacing the pump assembly. I believe in replacing fuel and ignition related parts with factory equipment. So I was going to get a Ford Motorcraft pump, but my wife checked for one through her work(local parts store). The counter guy found one that said original equipment, called them and was told "It is the same pump that gets installed on the assembly line". Well it came in today and its a Delphi. I was expecting a Ford pump. I associate Delphi with GM and I know GM pumps go out all the time. I know Ford pumps go out too, but I know several people with GMs that have replaced pumps multiple times within 100000 miles. Is Delphi worth taking a chance on?
