Driving at hwy speeds and head a pop noise in front end. Stopped and couldn't find anything, heard it a couple of more times, still nothing found, now I have a grinding noise left front wheel. What the issue may be. 2001 Ford EX 4X4.
View 6 RepliesHad a grinding noise in my front end, left side. Found the hub was bad so got it replaced. Now I still have a grinding noise that comes and goes. If I hit a bump, it starts the grinding noise but nothing constant. Had the front end checked and nothing was obvious. Was trying different things and when I put it in 4WD, with the switch on the dash, the noise goes away. What to try next?
View 2 RepliesI got a 2001 f350 got a noise in my left front wheel i know its not the wheel bearings, it only makes the noice when the locking hub is unlocked i did jack the the truck up and spun the wheel got a faint grinding noises form what seems like the locking hub so my question is bad locking hub or needle bearing holding the axle shaft??
View 3 RepliesSo whenever I brake while reversing (and rarely while moving forwards) I hear this odd grinding noise coming from the front left wheel and can feel it through the brake. Im not a petrol head but I decided to replace a wheel bearing hub myself recently to save money. I am pretty sure I reconnected the anti lock brakes correctly though I doubt it's that. My brakes are good.

View 1 RepliesOver the past few months I'd noticed an intermittent grinding noise coming from my left front wheel at low speeds. I took it in once but it refused to play along so I finally managed to catch it on camera and let the dealership listen to it. They booked me for today, saying it sounded like a wheel bearing (to which I agreed) and I dropped her off around ten, not expecting it to cooperate for the second time.
I got a call from the dealer around 2 PM saying that they were able to duplicate the noise and that when they took the left front wheel off and ran the car on the lift with the rest of the wheels off the ground, the noise went away. Even stranger still, when they put the wheel on the tire balancing machine and spun it, gronch, gronch...gronch, gronch....gronch, gronch. It was coming from inside the wheel! I gave them permission to dismount the tire from the wheel and about ten minutes later I got another call saying they'd found a handful of tiny hard rubber balls inside the mounted wheel/tire assembly that were rolling down the inside of the wheel and causing the grumbling at low speed.
Here's the kicker: they were in all four wheels! The tech even saved them for me so I could take a look and they don't look like anything mass-produced; some are larger than others, some are round and some are oval-shaped but when I dropped one on the glass advisor desk, it made a very clear 'Clink!'.
My 2015 Gs 350 F sport started making grinding noise from the front passanger side wheel. The noise comes from driving and not braking so im assuming its not the brake pads and its not squeaking noises as a worn out brake will sound.
View 14 RepliesI've been having a lot of noise coming from the front left tire, and I finally had it diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing today.
I noticed that the front wheel bearings are sold individually while the rear wheel bearings are sold as hub assemblies. Is there a certain way that the front wheel bearings have to be removed and pressed on? I'm trying to see if this is a DIY repair.
I have been having towing with the X. I have been getting a growl lately sounds like the front left wheel bearing. Today I jacked it up and did the wiggle text. I have a very slight wiggle in both wheels. Is a slight wiggle normal? I know the bearing on the left is more than likely gone as the growl goes away when I jerk the steering wheel. But I haven't heard any noise from the right side yet.
View 14 RepliesMy Excursion has proved to be a reliable winter vehicle, as was the intention. A few weeks back, at 116,000 miles, the right front wheel bearing started to squeal around left turns. Not very loud, so I didn't think it was all that bad, just an indication it was going. I jacked up the front of the truck anyway for good measure, and found a tremendous amount of slop in the bearing. Yeah, the bearing had disintegrated. Time for a replacement.
I bought a new replacement hub off of eBay, and proceeded to start tearing into the thing. Should be an easy repair... Right.
The repair itself is actually straightforward, but I had a few little snags get in my way. The one I'm facing now is that the new hub did not come with replacement studs, and the old hub's studs will not come out. Yes, I tried using a torch (and failed). I got one removed, only to find it's a fine thread and possibly Metric. Either way, it's not something that they have at Lowes.
Where to get more of these, or what the size is so I can order some from McMaster?
I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?

Recent Repairs : Installed new brakes, rotors, and bearings a month ago
Problems/Symptoms:
1. When going forward grinding noise ONLY when turning wheel to the right, becomes a tad louder when applying brake.
2. When going reverse cannot turn at all without hearing an AWFUL grinding noise and the tire seizing up.
3. Front left rotor (where noise is coming from) is beginning to wear heavily on the upper-outside portion in a 2" band.
Possible Solution that I thought of:The metal brake pad clip is somehow bent/not installed right so it is grinding on the rotor.
Why Can't I Check Right Now : Do not have hydraulic jack currently to get my car up. Waiting until Friday.
Today, I took the car to the shop today and they actually found that my sway bar needs to be replaced, but unfortunately they did not open up the brakes to check out the grinding noise. So when I left, I got to thinking about the brake pad clip.
I've got a 2006 f150 4x4 v8 ... I get a grinding noise (I think it is coming from the front left of the truck) that lasts only a little while and only comes out after a cold night (so I only get the noise in the morning after the truck has sat overnight)...
The issue details:
1. The grinding noise is constant and the truck has to be moving for it to make the noise
2. The truck will only make the noise while driving forward, it disappears when I drive in reverse
3. The truck has to sit overnight and it has to be cold (below freezing)
4. I only get the noise if I go in reverse BEFORE I drive forward after the truck sat all night
5. Will not make the noise while in 4x46. It has been doing this for about 2 months
What I tried:
1. Replaced both front wheel hubs
2. Replaced 4x4 vacuum and checked the lines for pressure
3. Front brake pads and checked calipers
4. While the truck was making the noise unplugged the 4x4 vacuum - still made the noise
TRUCK: 2003 F250 S/C Long bed 4x4 7.3 Diesel
PROBLEM: grinding noise in left front when slowing and stopping.
Starts as a howling noise, turns into a grinding as you brake and come to a stop. I feel it in the pedal and as it slows it feels like metal to metal brakes
WHAT HAVE WE DONE: Replaced both front hub assemblies (MOOG)... Replaced dust shields, rotors, calipers, pads as well as all new brake hardware.
At any speed when I brake hard it grinds and howls, I have taken out the 4x4 locking hub assembly and it does not change the situation. I am stumped!
I replaced both front bearings, calipers, brake pads, now I have a grinding noise on the left side front stops sometimes when you step on the brakes? 1999 F350 ...
View 6 RepliesI need to replace the rubber axle bumper guards. I have a clunking noise from the left front going over bumps. Troubleshooting I found the left front axle bumper guard is missing, right side is missing chunks and dry rotted. I had a question about how they attach. The one that is missing looks like a rusted bolt snapped off. Is it safe to assume a bolt goes right thru the center of the bumper guard into the frame? Couldn't tell on the right side it is in bad shape. Right front bolt may have sheared off on the bottom and just held in on the top by what is left.
View 5 RepliesJust installed new actuator and wheel hub assembly on my 2009 f150,truck still had grinding noise in front passenger wheel , New solenoid and vacuum hose kit installed when test drove noise still there until you put the truck in 4 wheel drive it disappears . The noise returns as soon as you take it out of 4 wheel drive. Also mechanic said steering was tight,installed new shaft same thing, could this be the rack and pinion.
View 5 RepliesBut I'm still getting a grinding/clunk noise and general loose feeling from the front end. The only play I can feel is when I grab the u-joint/knuckle and pull up and down on it. I also noticed the seal at the end of the axle shaft tube is not there on 1 side... would this lack of seal cause the looseness?
View 9 RepliesMy 2005 Camry started to make a, for a better work, "grinding" noise that appears to come from the left front side. It seems to appear around 40mph. Other symptoms:- the noise is not present when the car is in park even when revving up the engine- the noise appears to be correlated to the car/wheel speed - if placing the shift in neutral, the noise does not change while the speed doesn't change- if starting in 2nd gear, the noise only appears around 40mph when the engine is about 4500rpm.
Here it is a little hard to distinguish as the engine masks it- if switching the the 3rd gear, the noise does not change- if switching to "D", the noise does not change- coasting at neutral at more than 40mph still gives out the noise- when going over higher spots in the road (when the load of the wheels is reduced) the noise intensity goes down
There is no (or very low) noise at low speeds. Also, no noise when taking sharp turns. Had both front wheel bearings changed and the break pads, and the noise did not go away. I will be taking the car to a transmission place soon.
So on my girlfriends 2000 echo I get the classic bad wheel bearing noise/vibration on the front left (driver side) wheel. Worsens under load (right turn) and goes away when unloaded (left turn). I've replaced left side bearing, CV axle, brake rotors/pads and the noise still persists. My next thought is maybe the ball joint but humming/vibration tells me something out of rotational balance. Bearing in the transmission? I don't know. I'm stuck.

So, Is this likely (from my terrible description) to be a wheel bearing problem....
