Ford Excursion :: Overheated - Water Pump?

Jul 25, 2017

Was heading to the coast to do some camping this last weekend. Overheated on the way, limped back to a safe parking lot to wait for a tow truck. Lost a bunch of coolant out the pressure cap, filled back up with water while I slowly pulled back into town.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Installing Water Pump?

I came out of work to see a fair amount of fluid on the ground under my excursion (2000 limited 7.3l 4x4). So I checked my fluids and found the coolant low and all the other fluids were good,. I had some in the excursion (not sure why I had it but it was there ). Filled it as much as I could started the truck and there it was a pretty big leak from my water pump. I was able to get one (new one lifetime warranty from an auto parts place, Ford was closed) so now on my day off instead of relaxing I will be installing a water pump. I guess it was about time. I figured since I was there I might as well flush the system. How many gallons of coolant this will take to refill the whole system?

Ford Excursion :: Water Pump Leak Again - Gasket Deteriorated / Cracked?

I replaced my water pump on my 2000 Excursion 7.3 about six months ago because it was leaking from the little hole underneath. Everything was fine until today I noticed a big stain on my driveway under the front of the truck. I took a look and the new pump is leaking. It seems to be coming from the the back of the water pump where it sits flush against the engine.

Could the gasket have deteriorated or cracked? I bough it from a local parts store called part source, so it should be under warranty. Any thoughts?

Ford Transmission :: 2000 Excursion Overheated And Leaking Trans Fluid

2000 Excursion 7.3 unk transmission

Quick run down on the situation. It has been terribly hot here bumping 105 degrees. I was told by a man he could see fluid leaking and it was trans fluid. I checked it and filled it up and got it to the shop.

Next day they said it was not leaking and that it probably overheated. They recommended an after market trans cooler. They put it in and off I went. 60 miles later I got fluid all over the rear of the truck. I filled it up again and got it home. Shop says I need a new trans.

Ford Aerostar :: Water / Coolant Pump Failure

This is an update to my Heater Hose to Water Pump Failure post. As it turns out, the water/coolant pump seems to have failed at the same time as the heater hose. I think Ford secretly installed an internal time mechanism to deconstruct certain parts at the same time.

Anyway, in desperation I took the van to the local Ford dealer for an inspection. NOTE: I don't trust most of the locally owned small time shops and national franchises. Half of the time, they don't know what they are talking about.

They said the water pump is toast. And I already knew that! Then they said, because the water pump is attached to the front timing chain cover, they need to replace the gaskets there also, and also the oil pan is attached to the front chain cover, so that needs done, and then they said the radiator is also leaking. What!!!

Then they asked if I would be interested in buying a new or used vehicle. This tool works great. Mine happens to be a left hand fan. The tool is used with the handle on the left. This tool is used to hold Water Pump pulley stationary, while unbolting the fan assembly.

Tomorrow morning is when I finally replace the water pump. Not a lot of tool are needed, except for the stubborn fan clutch. Sockets: 8, 10, 13, 17, except a 22 mm open end wrench for the fan clutch.

Ford - Ranger :: 2000 4.0 - Water Pump Kicking On And Off Constantly

I just bought a 2000 Ranger 4.0, and it runs great. There is "no check engine" light and the mpg are reasonable. My temperature gauge never gets into the normal range, its always low. I believe this is related to the water pump kicking on and off constantly. There is plenty of heat coming from the vents. Do I have a bad thermostat or coolant temperature sensor?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Water Pump Pulley Shims

Is it common to have to shim the water pump pulley? I don't know why but mine seems to have moved back a fraction of an inch. I loosen the belt tension and slide the belt back and as soon as I start the motor, the belt slides forward again. And as I rev the motor, the belt moves even further out onto the edge of the water pump pulley and starts to squeal. All other pulleys are aligned and the belt spins fine on them. I thought about buying a shim kit, but I ordered a new Motorcraft water pump since I have 154k miles on my truck.

Ford Aerostar :: Heater Hose To Water Pump Failure

I just wanted to share with you all about a coolant leakage problem I had experienced for a couple of days.

It all started a few days ago when I noticed the temperature gauge needle, which I hardly ever look at, began fluctuating in the hot region. I thought "oh my god" what is wrong? I then stopped at the nearest gas station and added some, I mean a lot, of water. My initial thought was the coolant level was too low.

The following day, I noticed the belts were squealing a bit (at that time I thought it was another vehicle with loose belts, but NO... it was mine making the belt noise). At that time, I did not realize it was because the coolant was leaking onto the belt(s). But then when I made a stop at a location for a couple of minutes, I returned to my Aerostar and noticed a trail of coolant leaking from underneath the vehicle.

I thought "oh my god" the water pump is busted! I then took it to a local repair shop and inquired about the cost to replace the water pump.

But after I inspected the vehicle more thoroughly, I noticed some dryed out green colored stuff where the heater hose connects to the water pump. I then removed the heater hose from the water pump and discovered to my surprise a tiny hole had developed where the hose is expanded from 5/8 to 3/4 inches.

My plan to repair the problem is to purchase about 6" of 3/4" heater hose (to connect it to the water pump), and a Gates or Dorman plastic adapter reduction fitting that reduces it to 5/8", in order to plug it into the factory original old heater hose.

This is an emergency repair. While inspecting the heater hose, I discovered an electrical connection that goes no where.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Adding Water Pump Lube?

Is there any benefit to adding water pump lube to a 4.6L engine? There's smelly, old looking coolant in my friend's "new" 1997 F-150 so a flush is in the immediate future. I'm going to suggest using G-05 coolant over conventional green due to its longer life. Should water pump lube be added?

Ford :: 1995 - Coolant Leakage - Changed Thermostat / Water Pump

1995 Ford Van E150. So I've been trying to solve my overheating problem for months now. One morning I walked out of my house and all of my coolants was on the street. I could not completely detect the source of the leak after running more coolant through it. I also checked the dip stick and coolant on the ground for any sign of oil/coolant mixing. I started by replacing the thermostat.

I did a more thorough inspection and found a crack at the bottom of the radiator that I replaced less than two years ago. I replaced the radiator again and while I had the belt, intake and fan disassembled I switched out the water pump as well. The old water pump was gunked and the gasket was almost completely worn off. The van is still overheating and spitting out coolant at a much higher rate. I'm guessing because of the new water pump. A friend said it could be the intake manifold because of where the steam was coming from the motor.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2002 - PCV Valve Connected To Water Pump?

Ok so I have a 2002 f-150 4.2. I was replacing the PCV elbow that always crack and I figured while I'm down here, I might as well replace the PCV valve as well. I have the PCV valve that has 3 connections, 1 to the crankcase and then 2 "vacuum" type connections connected to the water pump and is full of coolant of course. What am I missing here, I though sometimes these things were connected to a vacuum line, is this some kind of heater for the PCV?
