2005 Excursion Limited 4x4. Will not go into 4 wheel drive. At initial key on the 4x4 indicator light comes on briefly. Tried manually locking the hubs, no 4x4. Tried swapping the underhood relays around, no 4x4.
Should I be looking for voltage at the transfer case 4x4 motor to determine if it is faulty when turning the in cab switch to 4x4? I'm thinking that would tell me the transfer case motor is shot, I think.
My battery indicator light is doing weird stuff. I have a secondary volt gauge that shows good voltage throughout. Checked posts and connections tight. At idle the warning light is off. Under slow acceleration it starts to flash with the frequency increasing with greater acceleration until it finally goes solid with normal acceleration and highway speeds.
View 3 RepliesI just bought my 2002 Excursion about a month ago, and the cruise control doesn't work. When I'm driving, I press "ON", then "SET", the CC indicator light comes on, but when I take my foot off the gas, it doesn't maintain speed.
I've done the self test, and all the lights blink once. Just to be sure, I've replaced the CC switch on the master cylinder, and the Brake switch mounted above the brake pedal. Still no joy.
My 4x4 on my 2000 model f350 will not engage. The light works, comes on briefly on startup of the engine. When I flip the switch nothing happens. When I jumper the relays nothing happens. I do not have the factory hubs, they r warn hubs and the vacuum line to them is capped off. How to figure this out on why the 4x4 will not engage?
View 13 RepliesNow that I have been driving for a while I kept seeing this light come on/off and I did a video below - I don't generally flash my lights so don't think I am aggressive - but I wanted to make sure to capture the video and the light coming on.
I was thinking valve cover connection the 50 cent mod - and maybe it's all coincidental - but I did have to pressure wash the troph where the oil collects and maybe something else got knocked loose.

A week and a half ago, the Service Engine Soon (SES) light came on and has stayed on pretty consistently since. Shortly thereafter, the Battery light came on sporadically, but over the last couple of days, it's started staying on. Today, the car stalled while I was idling briefly. I had put the car in neutral so as to "turn down" a rattling noise, then shifted back into drive when the car stalled out. All of the dash lights came on, and I was able to restart the car and make it home 20 some miles without further incident, but it's definitely unsettling.

The inverter coolant tank stays full, but the motor coolant is empty every day after a 30 mile commute. I fill it up & 30 miles later it is empty. There are no puddles or evidence of a leak while parked in the garage.
View 3 RepliesMy 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid has recently taken to beeping when I brake, and the brake light flashes briefly. Doesn't occur all the time; more like intermittent and both the beeping and the light goes off in a matter of seconds. I've been trying to keep an eye on when it happens and I think it happens more frequently when I first start the car.
Took it to a car dealer who said it's the master brake cylinder and the car is leaking brake fluids. They even have to top it off before my husband drove it out of the service center. We of course have not noted any drips in the garage, and have been monitoring the brake fluids and after 3 weeks have not noticed any lost brake fluids. The tank is full.
To replace the master brake cylinder and some miscellaneous repairs such as air filters. It seems to me that if we are leaking brake fluids there should be a drop in the level of fluids in the tank. What to check and perhaps who else besides the dealer to take the car to for more diagnostic testing?
If I start my Ex even without touching the seats, the indicator lights come on for both seats, what is going on?

The transmission shift lever indicator not being in the proper position needed to be fixed!
After some searching, I realized what the issue was and was quite surprised that the "fix" is replacing the entire shift lever indicator assembly. Seems overkill but right on par of with the way the world works nowadays.
The other solution I found was by a company called Dorman. They make a Shift Indicator Cable Bracket, which is the only part that was damaged in my case as you can see here. The white part pointed at by the arrow is supposed to be attached to the rest of the white plastic.
I looked around the garage thinking I need some glue. And something to reinforce the freshly glued parts. That should have been much more difficult as I don't regularly fix tiny plastic parts BUT I quickly came across this old external hard drive cover.
Broke some tabs off, trimmed them to size and poured glue all over the place.
This is what I ended up with.

So, just got this car and everything was fine until I had to be somewhere...car started up, ran briefly, died...grrrr.First noticed the check engine light, so I did, it was still there, fresh oil, etc. Then noticed the 'Check Gas Cap' light on, so I did, messed with it. Tried to start the car, same problem, light still on. Messed with the gas cap some more, car started up and stayed on! Yay! But now I'm worried! Bought a new gas cap, but that seems to be a pretty lame reason for the car to die. Any other thoughts or should I just not have bought this car?

View 3 RepliesI purchased a used 2012 F-150 Lariat in April, has 46,000 miles on it. I think the 3-year bumper-to-bumper expired about 2 weeks ago.
I know I've seen the heated mirror indicator light come on before, but I have not needed to use it much since April. The light would not come on today - I don't know if the mirrors actually got heated or not. I really did not need to use them, but wanted to see if it would remove the condensation from sitting outside over night.
Is it possible that the heated mirror would not come on because its too warm ? (i.e., 47 F in my case) For the first time ever, I used the power sliding rear window last night - is it possibly related to that ? Maybe its not fully closed ?
Is it possibly just a burned out bulb ? Or maybe a 'fuse' I can check ?
Dashboard light is flashing. Sometimes it flashes sometimes it doesn't:no real pattern. It just started with no accident or jarring.

View 8 Replies2002 ford f-150 5.4 4x4 ... I have the manual floor shift, the truck goes in and out of 4wd no problem but the indicator light is staying on when in 2wd. The 4 wheel drive does work. had truck up in the air, front and rear wheels do spin when in 4 hi i then put into 2wd and just the rear spin like its suppose to. So its for sure that everything works, its just the light is staying on.

I have limited mechanical experience. Is this something I can tackle? Or is this a major job?
'02 Ranger XLT, extended cab, 4X4, 4.0L SOHC, 5-speed manual, 114K miles.
Problem has occurred twice. After extended run time and engine fully heated, when I get home and shut it down, then attempt to restart within a short period of time, the engine starts very briefly, then begins shuddering violently and dies within a few seconds. Re-attempts to start result in a very shuddering attempt to run for a couple seconds, and then it dies. After a couple of re-attempts, it doesn't even attempt to start; just cranks over with no results. Has to sit about 7-8 hours before it will restart.
No OBD II codes; Passed, no codes shown. I purchased a crank position sensor, but haven't installed it yet: just a stab in the dark after hearing other people's experiences with other vehicles.
First occurrence followed a lengthy trip in heavy stop-and-go traffic. Shut it down when I got home, then attempted to re-start after a few minutes to run a short errand. Sat for two days without any re-attempts; then restarted and ran fine on first try a couple days later.
Second occurrence followed a couple hours of hitting yard sales with the neighbor, in which time I did not shut the truck down; just left it idling while we perused the sales, for fear it wouldn't re-start. Reckon it's a good thing I did, 'cause when we got home and I shut it down and attempted to leave again shortly thereafter, it malfunctioned as described.
Retries failed after sitting 4-5 hours, but after eleven hours of sitting, it started right up and ran normally.
Truck quit running yesterday suddenly and unexpectedly. It sputtered briefly and the motor total quit running. I pulled over and tried to start and it briefly fired but then totally quit. Got towed home. And now testing to see what all to repair..Thinking fuel.
I don't get any codes from the tester with KOEO..just the good to go etc..no codes or the good to go 111..etc. Guess this problem can't be identified without motor running.
My wiring diagram doesn't give me all for my Calif car..I don't see where the relay is but my fuses are all good, and I'm getting voltage when I crank the motor at that inside firewall switch on both its wires(incoming/outgoing)..forget what its called..Inertia Switch?..that will shut off fuel pump during accident or impact etc. And I've read that this switch is upstream of the relay(if I read that post correctly) so guessing it's the pump itself that is bad.
Does that sound right? Should I go ahead and pull the fuel tank etc and replace the pump? Or is there more testing I should do? When I turn the ignition key on..the pump makes zero sound. That's not the way it normally operates. Usually with the key on the fuel pump comes on momentarily and I can hear it. Forget how to drain the fuel tank etc..I don't see a drain plug? I did it once many years ago..but forget how?
My 2011 Camry LE 4-cyl has 48k miles. Today I was driving on the highway during very heavy rain. My vehicle slip indicator light came on, along with my check engine light. I stopped at Advanced Auto for a diagnostic check. They said they couldn't be sure if it was a sensor, or maybe a wiring issue.
