Ford Excursion :: How To Attach Front Plates

There's a piece steel behind the plastic cover and there are no homes behind the small little plastic thing. Do I need to drill a hole?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rumbling Noise - Rear End Clutch Plates Going?

2000 f150 182000 makes a rumbling noise from rear end mainly when turning at slow speeds. Thought it might of been axle bearings so replaced them this weekend to no avail. I have the 9.75 limited slip rear end but what I found out this weekend is that the axle bearings are for 8.8 , the 9.75 bearings was to big.

So does this mean I have 9.75 ring gear with 8.8 axles ? I have been using royal purple 75-140 with no friction modifier because royal purple says its it there.

But after doing some research Im going to go get some friction modifier and see if it works . So my question is how much of a pain is it to replace the clutch packs? What if I wanted to just put a different differential in and do away with limited slip ? Or go with a different aftermarket limited slip diff. ? what are my options , etc.

Golf IV R32 :: How To Attach Shifter Knob To Stalk

The only serious problem i can't quite figure out is how to attach the shifter "knob" to the stalk. I see how the stock knob is attached, but i will be using an aluminium rod so clamping wont be a great idea. I have thought of removing the stalk and drilling a set of holes through it and running bolts to hold them together, but it isn't that big of a diameter and also i don't like the though of one of those nuts coming loose and messing up my shifting. My nest idea was epoxy, but I still would like to remove it if perhaps one day i wanted to. So there's my dilemma.

Golf VI R :: Cluck Sort Of Noise Coming From IE Plates

Recently I have noticed a noise coming from the car. It is a cluck sort of noise, and it is definitely coming from the front end. I have tested turning and braking and the noise does not seem to be related to that. It seems to only happen when there is a quick transition in the road.

Think of the seam between a bridge and pavement where the bridge is an inch or more higher than the pavement. During normal dips and bumps it seems fine. I put the car up on jacks and removed both wheels. I went over everything to make sure it was snug. I took a rubber mallet and did a soft tap on various parts to see if I could get a rattle or clunk.

I have heard that camber plates can make noise. I am wondering if this could be the case. Many people have reported noise with GC plates, but I have not heard of IE plates doing this.

Buick - Regal :: Rear Strut Mounting Plates Rusted

I own a 1998 Buick Regal with 213,000 miles on it. Recently I've noticed the rear strut plates in the inner wheel wells are very rusted and each has a crack along the wheel well. I've taken the vehicle to three auto body shops and none of them have been willing to provide a written estimate for repair. Is this a problem that isn't worth the trouble to fix? I still value the car and the 3.8 v6 still runs great ... but maybe it's time to retire it.

Honda - Element :: 2003 - Radio Disconnected From Antenna - How To Lift Off Face Plates On Dash

My 2003 Honda Element's radio has been messed up for several years. The speakers are fine but the radio must be disconnected from the antenna because it is impossible to stay in tune. How difficult is it to lift off the face plates on the dash and try to reconnect the radio. Additionally, the lights on the speedometer appear to be getting ready to burn out.

The light behind the defroster dial has been out for a while and now the light behind the heater dial needs a few good taps for at light to appear. Can my husband and I repair these things or should we take it to the dealer or some kind of car radio and dashboard expert. Will it cost a fortune or will it cause further damage if we try to do it ourselves?

Ford Excursion :: Front End Vibration At 55 Mph

My new to me 04 X has a fairly bad vibration that starts around 55 mph. At about 60-65 it sort of goes away, but not completely. The wheels are 20" F-250 wheels ( 2006 ) with spacers/adapters. These were on it when I bought it. I had the wheels re-balanced and checked the ball joints. This made no difference.

This is not what I would call the death wobble, just a bad vibration in the front end. The steering wheel does shake/vibrate a little, but so does most of the truck while it is doing it.

Ford Excursion :: Clunking From Front End?

I recently ran into the "clunking from the front end" problem with my Excursion. It is 2WD but this might apply to all. I had the clunk under my left foot while driving over a series of small bumps. It was a rapid clunking. One big bump, or things like speed bumps did not produce the noise or feel in my feet. Only rapid irregularities in the road at 35 mph or greater made it happen.

It made me crazy trying to figure it out. I tried everything. Both sets of swaybar links, shock mounts, track bar mounts, made sure brake calipers were tight, you name it. It showed its ugly head every time I hit small bumps in succession at speed. Even tried to re-seat the coil springs but that didn't work! My front bearings made NO noise. There was NO play in them by hand while up on jacks. I had taken them out and repacked them while replacing front brakes. At my wits' end, I went for a "hail mary" shot. I purchased new bearings. Took it all apart, packed the new bearings and replaced.

Low and behold! The damn "clunking" is now gone! So, in short, IF you have a clunking that nothing else seems to fix, just try replacing the bearings even IF you feel NO play in them. I couldn't believe that bearings that felt so tight by hand would be causing such clunking.

Ford Excursion :: Noise From Front End?

My Ex developed a speed sensitive squeal from the drivers front last night and I am not sure whats up so I'm looking for some input..... First off it has warn manual lock outs on it, the squeal kinda sounds like what rubber against rubber or wet rubber sounds like. there is no heat anywhere I can feel its not pulling side to side..... it usually comes on after I hit a small bump and goes away under 10mph. But, if I lock the drivers side hub it goes away no matter what the speed, also with both the hubs in free wheel it will go away if I engage the transfer case while its squealing......last summer it got a complete brake job, all ball joints were replaced and axle joints were done.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 - Front End Vibration?

Just picked up an 01 4x4 v10 a few weeks ago. I have a severe vibration that occurs when I hit a bump at highway speeds. The vibration cannot be felt in the steering, and I must come to a complete stop to cure it. There is a rattle, consistent with rotation coming from the passenger front tire. It seems to get louder the longer the I drive it, Going away and starting over after the truck has sat for a few minutes. I have had the truck on a lift and there is no play in ball joints or tie rods. I have recently replaced the sway bar end links. When this started I had the front tires balanced to make sure that's not the issue.
