We are camping and I'd like to leave dogs in car with back doors open but I don't see a way to turn off the interior lights. There must be a way, right? In my Expedition we could turn the little button next to the headlights switch to adjust brightness in the controls and speedometer and turn all the way til it clicks for off but doesn't work here.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2005 Excursion V10 4WD Eddie Bauer edition. Within the past month I have noticed that the interior dome lights and running board lights don't always come on when I open the doors. The dimmer switch is set to the highest level without being turned on and all of the dashboard lights work. I turn the dimmer switch on and sometimes the interior lights work and sometimes they don't. The door switch seems to be in good shape as well. If I turn the dome lights on individually they work so I know that there is not a problem with the bulbs. Where I can look for the problem?
View 3 RepliesThe interior lights on my '03 X do not turn on when any of the doors are opened. All of the lights work when the dimmer switch is flipped and when the individual switches are flipped on. The lights also turn on automatically when ignition is turned in the off position after running. Where should I begin to look to get this resolved?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 and having problems right now because my Door Chime and Dome light dont work when the doors are open. But for some odd reason, when the rear door is open, the dome lights work. The 4 doors doesnt work yet the rear door does
The reason i want this is because i want to install an alarm and the door signal is needed and it is suppose to be tapped at the dome/chime so when the door is opened, the alarm will sound so it is not just relying on the Shock sensor.
We just bought a 2003 Windstar SE, the door ajar indicator is on on the dash all the time but the courtesy/dome lights don't come on with any of the doors open. The lights will come on manually with the headlight switch? I am pretty sure these are controlled by the GEM module.

View 1 RepliesEverything I've seen in the forum refers to alarms activating and how to turn them off, my problem is the opposite. Last year I performed a simple injector cup procedure on my 2000 7.3 Excursion which took about 3 months, during which time I had my batteries removed. When I finally buttoned everything back up I noticed that my alarm does the "chirp", but that I can leave a window rolled down and open any door without it going off. How to get this to reset? I can hit the panic button and get the alarm, but as a security feature it's not working.

View 5 RepliesMy buddies 01 Ex will shut off the dome light after a short time with any or all the doors open. My 02 Ex will never shut the dome light out unless all doors are closed.
I guess I'm headed for the override switch but wanted to confirm before if I did that there wasn't an issue with something other component.
Before you all say it, yes I have made sure that the "door" button has been pushed. The front done light will work when I turn on the individual map lights. However when I open the front doors they no longer automatically come on. I am going to bring it to the dealer ( I am assuming it is a faulty "door" switch) just wanted to see what you all thought before I bring it to them.

If you open the door, no lights. If the key is in the ignition and you open the door it buzzes. If you have the light on, the light around the door locks and window controls stay on after you turn off the truck until you open the door. The dome light never comes on unless you use the switch on the light. What's up with the darkness! This truck is like a cave! No under dash lights, no door lights no dome light! As for those red lenses on the door, no wiring, no lights no nada! Do the lights com on when you open the door? Any light?
Wife's Tig had an issue with its rear doors. Dome lights would activate only with front doors. If you opened the rear doors only, no dome lights.
VW dealer says they found the issue, I disabled the DRLs via VCDS and now he states that disables the rear door dome lights. He even went so far to say that I had installed an "aftermarket" part in order to disable the DRLs.
Any example for disabled their DRLs and lost the rear door dome lights?
Wife's picking up the Tig now. I'm sure the DRLs are now working. I'll VAG it again to remove the DRLs and see if I lose the rear door dome lights.
I just replaced the alternator on my car last week, and thought the electrical bugs were gone. Today, I tried to replace the two rear dome lights with LED bulbs. I removed the original bulb, put the new one in and noticed that it did not work...so I put the old one back in and noticed it was no longer working either (everything was fine before I took the old one out).
I then tried to turn on the dome/map lights by the rear view mirror, and those won't come on anymore either. I then tried to close the door and lock it with my key remote, but it also no longer functions. Even if I "manually" lock the doors from the inside (via the lock button on the door panel OR actually pressing the lock down into its hole) they just pop back up and won't lock. Obviously I do not want to leave my car like this as someone can now open it and get in... Does this problem sound like a blown fuse? If it doesn't sound like a blown fuse, what else could it be?
I have a 2001 triton not that the engine size matters to this question. I've been sleeping in my excursion alot and have been enjoying it, i find exiting out the back doors is much easier but i have no way to open them from a shut position. I do see a cover of a small slotted whole and think it might be part to future customizing but haven't found such a mod. So how I can open my back doors from the inside?

I have a bad bulb in the cargo area which I removed. (don't know if every bulb has to be functional)
I have no listing in the owners manual for interior lights or dome lights for the fuses. I assume the 10amp one for the gauge cluster was it.
Have an 411 on where to check now? Also looking for a parts listing for replacement bulbs for all the dome/reading lights.
Did a search and read the manual and I cant seem to turn of the dome lights when I open the doors. For example... Sometimes my daughter falls asleep and I want to open the door at night without the lights coming on... Or If the mosquitoes are going crazy I might want to turn off the light so I don't get killed... I know I can hold the switch to the right and it turns lights on with doors closed, and hold for a second to the left to turn off. But what about opening the door? I know my old 2007 was able to do this function...
View 13 RepliesI know this has been beaten to death for years, but I can't find anything to my specific problem. My dome light stays on but rest of my interior/running board lights will go off after 30 seconds on my 2000 Excursion 2wd with V10.
When I got truck it had the door ajar light on which I fixed with the WD40 trick. Then I realized I had no dome light up front - pulled off the cover and there were no bulbs. Replaced the bulbs but couldn't get the lights to go out. All the other interior lights would go off.
I've swapped relays, checked the fuses, used the WD40, and I've made sure dimmer switch wasn't all the way up. Only thing I can see is that passenger side bulb "foil" power thing for that dome light bulb is torn so that bulb won't work.
ok first off my 4wd has no power at the switch. 2nd I have no dome lights or overhead console lights (but the lights in teh very back work) and the ac controls up top work. either of these common issues or just time to break out a test light and start checking wires?

How in the hell do you separate the trim from the housing to replace the freakin' bulb?
I've almost broken the thing in half trying to get access to the bulb... My FSM doesn't give any indication how to separate the housing just that the bulb needs replaced...
2002 Exc, 7.3L TD, Some one broke into the truck last week by jaming a screwdriver into the door key lock. Tried to pull the ignition out but failed. Pulled the A/V system out, cutting wires and such. So the dealer (insurance covered it ) installed the new door lock and said nothing is wrong with the ignition. But now the dome lights and running board lights come on at random and kill the batteries.
Could it be the ignition? Or something inside the driver's door? The batteries are brand new.
