Ford Excursion :: Groaning Noise In Back Storage Area As Body Flexes When Starting To Move

Apr 23, 2014

I am getting a groaning noise in the back storage area as the body flexes when starting to move. At first I thought it might be the spare tire mounting or the third seat but I still get the noise with the tire out and the seat out.

Does this sound like a body mount issue? Have not had any body mount noises in the front. Can I access the rear body mount without dropping the gas tank?

Ford Excursion :: Secure Storage On Back?

My ex-was broken into 2 nights ago and the thieves made off with about 3 grand of tools. Any safe storage in the back of an ex? Maybe something like those boxes made for pickup beds. The only idea I have is bolting a gang box to the floor of the ex where the 3rd row usually goes. I'm not looking to spend too much so try to keep the suggestions to something that wouldn't cost too much more than $500ish.

Ford - Explorer :: 2010 - Groaning Noise And Slight Vibration Starting At 34 MPH Under Load

I have a 2010 Explorer XLT that I bought in 8/2012 with 7,000 miles on it. I had had a problem with a groaning noise and slight vibration starting at 34 mph, under load. I don't hear the noise if I let off the gas at 34. I hear it a little past 35 or so and it doesn't seem to groan again until about 60 mph or so. I also have a feeling of the all wheel drive engaging when I back out of the driveway, put it in drive and turn the wheel slightly.

I took it to the dealer this week under warranty and he calls me today and says the tires are worn differently all around and that is causing the problem. He says the tires could be out as much as, or as little as 1/16 of an inch and that is what is causing the all wheel drive to catch and also the groaning noise. I understand what he is saying, but I can't believe that is the problem or more would have been written about it.

I asked the guys about rotating the tires and he said it would not matter, it would just take the problem from one end of the vehicle to the other. These tires are not worn like the truck is out of alignment, it is just normal wear. It now has about 21k on the odometer. What do you all think of this diagnoses? The guy says the PTU thinks it needs the all wheel drive and therefore engages it. This truck can also be manually put in 4 wheel drive by flipping the switch.

Passat (B6) :: Creaking / Groaning Noise From Foot-rest Area When Releasing Clutch

As stated in the title, I've been experiencing a creaking/groaning noise originating from the dead pedal/foot-rest area when I release the clutch as I'm accelerating from first gear. This happens more so when I'm accelerating from a stop on any sort of incline (irrespective of the grade) and primarily in the afternoon/early evening when the weather's at its warmest for the day.

The noise itself originated about a month ago. Although I describe it as a creaking/groaning it sometimes sounds like a slight metal on metal friction noise.

My car's stock with the exception of Driver Gear springs and a BSH 27mm sway bar in the rear. Wheels are OEM 16s. I've had the DG springs on my car for about 3 months before this noise began and mileage was around 9,900Km.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Loud Groaning / Creaking Noise Coming From Front Suspension Area

2011 GLS 2.4L auto, 40K, out of warranty

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.

My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Center Console Removal (Storage Area)

I have an 09 SE, In the center area under the radio I had a access card slide over the open bottom door into the abyss where I lost a tire gauge and who knows what else lurks in there. It was supposed to go in the top open area but the person just put it on the open door and it slid back and fell.

How to remove the side panels that run from the console in the center to under the dash? I need to access the area under the dash below the 2 storage areas.

I am assuming you take the screws out on the side and possibly pop the shift indicator panel out and lift the console off? Seems a little overkill unless there is an easier way. I really don't want to experiment and break anything.

Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Rattles And Squeaks Coming From Storage Area

I have been experiencing some unwanted noises coming from the rear of my SF. I finally had the opportunity to ride in the back seat while someone else drove. I was able to determine that one rattle/squeak was coming from the styrofoam pieces in the storage area. I pushed the entire set as far to the rear as possible. Even though they only moved a fraction of an inch, the noise stopped.

Another noise is coming from the seat backs. Specifically, the seams where each seat back touches each other. They create a squeeking noise as the seat backs vibrate. I can make it stop by folding the middle section down, and therefore it doesn't touch the seat back on either side. I'd like to not have that be my solution though. I'm thinking some lubrication, such as silicon spray, on the surfaces that touch each other would stop it. I have no clue what silicone spray would do to leather in the long term though.

Passat (B7) :: Squeaking / Groaning Sound From Front Strut Mount Area

I had my ST coilovers installed a while back. I love the ride, but a really annoying squeaking/groaning sound developed several weeks ago from the front strut mount area. The noise is heard at low speeds as I roll down the road (most likely high speeds, too) and sounds like its coming from both sides of the upper strut mount area. If you lift up/push down on the car, you can also hear the sound.

I purchased a set of 034 Density upper strut mounts from AMI Motorsports in hopes of eliminating the sound, but the sound got worse!! I still do not have a resolution. At this point, I'm thinking about putting the stock strut mounts back in, as the sound wasn't near as bad with the OE mounts in place.

I've lubricated the sway bar bushings and installed shorter end links (thinking the sound may be sway bar related), but the noise is still there. I even disconnected the end links all together - sound is still there. Could this be faulty coilovers? I tried to file a warranty claim through ST - they don't think their strut is faulty, and even if they did, I'm having a hard time with warranty coverage (long story). If it's the struts, then why did the sound get worse when the new 034 Density upper strut mounts were installed? Could it be faulty mounts?

At this point, I think it's either the mount or the strut, as I did not experience any issues prior to the coilovers.

Ford Excursion :: 2003 - Groaning Sound Near Driver Side?

Been noticing a new noise that would best be described as a groaning sound. Seems to be the loudest near the drivers side under the dash or floorboard area. I haven't been able to hear it from under the hood. It happens if I accelerate somewhat hard then letting off the pedal is when I hear it. Sometimes a few seconds and sometimes longer. Occasionally just letting off the accelerator at slow around town driving it will also be noticable then will stop. Oh yes, the EX is a 2003, 2wd, 6.0 with 101,000 miles.

Ford Excursion :: Vibration And Noise From Back?

Coming back from PA yesterday after snowboarding noticed a vibration and a small amount of noise coming from the back of the EX once I got back into town. The vibration is def speed related and completely linear with how fast I am going, the noise for lack of a better description is like a low roar. Starts to be really noticeable coasting to a stop around 45 mph down to 0.

Only does it coasting, not under power, as soon as I pick up the throttle again it instantly goes away. Might open up the rear dif to see if there are any missing teeth or metal shavings if I can find time. Hoping its a Ujoint, cant afford to do a gear swap right now and I need my EX...

Lexus SC430 :: 2002 - Noise From Dash Area When Turning Key Before Starting Engine

Got an '02 here. This noise started to appear recently. When I turn the key to put electricity on (without starting the car), I hear this electric motor-like sound, similar to power window sound, coming thru the dash area, and it can also be heard outside the car coming from somewhere in or near the engine compartment or in front of the dash/windshield area. Could this be one of the servo that operates the AC vents? or its something else?

Camry :: Rattle Noise Coming From Deck Area Behind Back Seat

I recently purchased a 2009 Camry with 95,000 miles. The Camry was purchased new at the dealer that I bought it from and all of the maintenance had been done at the same dealer so I have records of everything.

I did not notice any rattles when I test drove the Camry but driving it the next day I noticed two rattles. The first rattle was the deck area behind the back seat. That was easily fixed with some card board shims placed the right places. I will do a permanent fix later.

The other rattle was driving me crazy. It did not do it all of the time and to me it sounded "exactly" like it was coming from the area around or in the glove box. I took the glove box and the area around it off and could not find the source of the rattle. I had my daughter drive the car while I set in the passenger seat and the rattle never occurred.

I finally found the source of the rattle. It was the lid for the center console. The lid originally had two rubber bumpers. Both of the bumpers were either missing or worn completely down. When I had my elbow on the center console lid the rattle did not occur. I fixed it with stick on drawer stops.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Oil In Throttle Body Area

Just purchased one of the members 2006 Prius. It wasn't in good condition and I knew that upfront. The price I paid justified the imperfections on the car. The car has 117k miles and it does burn oil. To the tune of 1 qt every 3000 miles according to the seller. However I believe it burns more than that amount now. I changed the oil and the dipstick reading was slightly below the minimum mark. The engine doesn't sound all that great but seems to run very well.

I was cleaning the throttle body today and noticed there is oil in that area. I looked down the throttle plate (not sure what that's called), and there was a layer of oil on the bottom. I know oil is not suppose to be in that area. What could this be?

The car had a leaking ice water pump and the coolant was a bit low, not sure if it could have overheated before.

Ford Wiring/Electrical :: 2014 F150 - Starting System Fault / Body Control Module Malfunctioned

I own a 2014 F-150 XLT 3.5 L 6 cyl Twin. Saturday afternoon I tried to start the truck once and it didn't start like it normally does. It started on the second try, but the A/C didn't work and I got a "Starting System Fault" warning on my screen. When I shut the truck off, it would not start at all. All the lights and gauges worked, just no start.

Had to tow it to Ford Dealer, where the service department had already closed for the day (of course). Today it was determined by the service department that the Body Control Module had malfunctioned. I was told that the tech tapped on the control module and the truck started. Now waiting two days for a replacement part to come in. Luckily, I'm just under 36K miles and three years. Is this a common occurrence?
