Ford Excursion :: Glove Box Won't Open
Jun 27, 2013
My glove box won't open. The handle isn't pulling the latch release. Is there a "trick" to get into the glove box to try and repair without breaking it?

View 2 RepliesTonight my wife and I drove ex to store and out to eat . We got back home and the wife opened the glove box and the radio quit working. And when she closed the box the radio came back on.
View 11 RepliesThe glove box all of a sudden will no longer open..it is not locked as the lock is in the vertical position...when the button is depressed i here a sound like a spring is being squeezed.. how to access the cable or get it to open.. diagram/schematic of the glove box and its parts.....
View 12 RepliesI presume it to be possibly a blend door actuator/switch. It does not happen all the time, when it does I have simply shut down the hvac and it stops.
View 1 RepliesThis started a bit ago. Every time it rains I get water in my glove box. The weatherstrip on the plastic cowl is missing but I have a hard time believing that is the issue. There are signs of rust on the top corner above the windshield. The paint is bubbling. I'm not sure what it is but I need to stop it as soon as possible!
View 1 RepliesThe windows & radio go off when you open the glove box or the vanity mirrors, but not always. It also posts no codes when this happens.
View 6 RepliesThis morning, after a hard rain, we went to town to run a few errands. When we were going down the road my wife opened the glove box. It was filled with water. When I say filled...I mean filled. I looked at that side of the windshield and found a few things that concern me. There is a bit of rust at the top corner of the windshield that has bubbled the paint. The small strip of weatherstrip that should be at the top of the plastic shroud (where the windshield wipers are at) is missing. Could either be the cause of the water in the glove box? I am worried that if the glove box is filled that wiring behind the dash could have been exposed to the moisture as well.
View 4 RepliesThe glove box on my wife's '13 elantra keeps popping open. I guess the little plastic latch that keeps it up is not going into the hole far enough when it's closed, so after a while it slides out.
Would rather avoid a trip to the dealer (not even sure if it would be covered under warranty anymore, the car is over 3 years old).
When closing my glove box, it will open back out. That's if I slap it on and let go. I noticed that there are 2 notches sliding out of the glove box. If I push them in by hand, they slide out slowly. So I tried to close the glove box and keep my hand on it for a couple of seconds for the notches to slide. It stays closed this way. I'm suspecting this is tied to the cold weather we're having lately. I hope I don't have to take it apart to re-lube it or anything like that.
View 2 RepliesI have searched and everyone just states to press in the tabs and the cover pops off. Well this is not the case for me, the lids won't budge and the tabs seem to be recessed as is. This can't be as hard as i'm making it.

I don't hear the motor lock the trunk either. I can open it with a broom handle through the back seat ok or with the actual metal key, but pressing the button on the remote or next to the steering wheel does nothing. I checked the fuse, and the glove box switch.
Anything else I can try? It's no worry since its still under warranty, but if it's something simple it would save me the trip.
So I hooked up to the camper on Friday, threw some gear in the back off the Ex and hit the road. 4 hours and a couple hundred miles later I set up the camper and tried to pop the rear hatch. It's a no-go. It appears that the passenger side latch is releasing but the drivers side is not. My tool selection is limited since I'm on the road, any tricks to get the hatch open? Probably just deal with it till I get home since I don't want the reverse problem and not be able to get it latched again.
View 3 RepliesThe interior lights on my '03 X do not turn on when any of the doors are opened. All of the lights work when the dimmer switch is flipped and when the individual switches are flipped on. The lights also turn on automatically when ignition is turned in the off position after running. Where should I begin to look to get this resolved?
View 8 RepliesHaving problem with the left cargo door not opening!? You can pull the handle the cable moves but the door wont open, thinking maybe it a latch mechanism.
View 7 RepliesThe passenger side rear door will not open. I've tried from the outside handle, inside handle, jerking, pushing, etc. Nothing.
How in the world can I find out and fix the problem if I can't get the door open to get the door panel off??? And yes, I've tried unlocking it...
So far I have not been able to get the rear door open on the driver side. I was able to remove the plastic panel so I could see inside. The cable is attached to the handle, but not the latch mechanism at the bottom of the door. I have searched this and other sites and looked for pics on the internet...no luck yet.
Looking for an image of the latch mechanism for the driver barn door ... something that will hopefully show where the cable attaches and/or how I can manually (no cable attached) open the door.
Also, I am having issues with the door ajar light. I am almost certain that this is from the rear of the truck. Is the sensor for door ajar on the hatch, driver barn door, passenger barn door, more than one?
My passenger side rear window will not open. Is there a fuse for this or is the motor just bad?
View 3 RepliesThe driver's side barn door won't open. I took the handle off and the door panel and the cable is out but not broken. I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how that mechanism in there really works. I can see where the cable lifts, and I push on the other end of the "arm" and it doesn't release the door, almost seems like it should lift higher. I w-d40 the out of it and I'm gonna look at it again tomorrow in the light. Hopefully it was just stuck or gummed up. I don't want to take it in for something that seems like I should be able to do!

View 14 RepliesI have a 2001 triton not that the engine size matters to this question. I've been sleeping in my excursion alot and have been enjoying it, i find exiting out the back doors is much easier but i have no way to open them from a shut position. I do see a cover of a small slotted whole and think it might be part to future customizing but haven't found such a mod. So how I can open my back doors from the inside?
View 9 RepliesWhen the rear window was up, the interior lights stayed on. I couldn't find the valet switch to depress/turn them off. How can I turn off the interior lights while the back window is open? I have only had the Excursion for a month so I am still figuring it all out.
