I have a fuel elk coming from the fuel rail on top of an orange; what I can only assume is an injector? Fuel races out of it and puddles beneath the truck. I hate driving it cause now everything stinks like gas. I've tried pushing on it with no luck. How hard would it be to fix this issue? I'm mechanically inclined but feel this may be beyond my skills.

CEL is on, gives code about evaporative emissions control system, P0441. Shop manual says a)Purge control solenoid valve or b) vacuum leak.
Symptoms are very rough idle, strong smell of gas at startup, erratic, racing idle when starting or cruising to a stop in neutral.
Replaced PCSV, didn't WORK. Went looking for vacuum leak. Seems to be at the fuel injector that's on the end, passenger side, on the manifold side. There's a noticeable hiss, and when I spray gumout at the injector it changes idle. Replaced the injector O-rings. Didn't make a difference. What next?
My car does not start (cranks only) after I clean the fuel injector and intake manifold.
so I check the spark with tester and it is fine.then I check the fuel pressure with tester and the pressure shoots to over 42 psi without starting (normal between 38 and 46 psi) and slowly drops to 10 psi. I install fuel injector (FI) with new o-ring and gasket and there is no leakage aroung them. the fuel pressure regulator is ok. I got one from junk yard and the test show the same.
I notice there is some gas inside TB and only way to leak the gas is the FI body valve. I took all FI out and notice #2 and #3 are wet on the FI nozzle tip and use small string to push air through and can see some fluid coming out from the nozzle tip.
I thought I clean it well and do not know if this can be fixed by more cleaning. the resistance is all the same at 12.6 ohms under room temp at night in north CA.
My 2000 7.3 excursion has a diesel fuel leak. I don't now where to start looking to fix this. I hope it's not a hard line. I don't even see the leak and I don't know where to look a shop doing a safety inspection said I had a diesel fuel leak and fuel was collecting in the valley.
Where I should start looking. Is this an expensive fix? Is the common place to check that is easy to repair?
I average 16.5 miles per gallon. My fuel economy dropped about 1 1/2 years ago after my CPS was replaced due to recall. My truck is 2000 4x4 limited.
Just drove home a 2000 Limited from a used car dealer in NH to MA. Half way home, I stopped to gas up and noticed I was losing a small amount of fuel while pumping. It appears to be leaking from the filler pipe just before the tank, but there was too much splatter to tell for sure. No leak when not pumping, but the tank was only half full.
The dealer "guarantees" that the truck will pass MA state inspection. I'm sure a rusted out filler hose would result in a failure. The "guarantee" really means that he will buy the truck back should it fail, which is not really doing me any good b/c I'll have to start looking for a new truck all over again.
I'm unable to find a part # or pic of a filler neck for the Excursion. Is it the same as other Super Duty necks? Is this thing welded to the tank? That sounds like an involved, difficult fix.

View 10 RepliesI bought a '98. At the front passenger side of the engine, the injector rail is leaking fuel (a fair stream of it). I have done some googling, and browsing around the forums, and can't find much in the way of specific info on where to start with this.
Whatever the device at the front of the rail - Without digging too far, it seems that the leak is coming just below it.
Questions:
Am I obliged to change injectors with the rail?
What is involved with changing the rail? Removing upper intake only? At all?
What is the box shaped device at the front of the rail, passenger side? Test port? Pressure Regulator? Both?
I won't have a chance to work on this again until next weekend, but thought I'd try to do some homework beforehand.
So whats everyones favorite? Reason? Its been a while since I had to buy any for a gas engine.

I have dead headed pump got 3k plus but when i block off ether head i get no pressure. i have pulled injectors and checked for orings and they are fine...
View 2 RepliesTo my surprise, I found coolant seeping out around a fuel injector. My guess that this indicates an issue with the gasket and it needs to be replaced. I hope this is not expensive and is replaceable if you can follow instructions. So I am looking for suggestion to test and confirm if this is the issue and procedures to complete the repair. I have general basic tools (sockets, wrenches, and screwdrivers)My expedition has over 200K miles. A gas drinking elephant at 13 miles /gal but has been extremely reliable. I am also considering replacing her with something less thirsty.
View 9 RepliesMy 2005 F-250 does not have power when the engine is cold. When the engine warms up then it seems fine. I believe that the fuel injectors need replacement. I was told that one cannot get new injectors. They are all re-manufactured. Is this correct?

Side note- this is the second injector to go bad in the past few months. Ford also wanted to replace the HFCM, so I'll be doing that as well.

I've heard about the "listening to the injectors" trick but I'm not sure what procedures to go through. Can I tell if one is open by taking them out and visual inspecting?

View 7 RepliesRecently while changing the oil, I noticed a great deal of white crystals around the Reductant Injector. This is the point where DEF is injected into the exhaust. There is a heat shield around the connection and that shield was moved up by the growing crystals.
The hose that connects to the injector is simply one of those press lock types, i.e., you press on either side of it to remove it, and it simply locks in place by pressing it on the tube. This is the point where it seems to be leaking.
I have been tracking my DEF usage pretty close and I seem to get around 4900 miles from five gallons of DEF. No towing whatsoever, daily commuter 30 miles a day.
It's a 2016 F350 6.7 PS with 12,000 miles.
I have a hard starting condition after warm up. It starts up fine when it is cold.After running diagnostics and coming up with no error codes, I noticed that I smell raw fuel after the car was warmed up and sitting for about 15 minutes. I believe this is the cause of the hard starting condition after warm up.
How do I test the fuel injector for leaking? I think it may be leaking fuel into the throttle body after sitting for a few minutes, causing a rich or flooded condition which makes it difficult to start after it has been warmed up.
My 96 4wd 4.0 Auto has a consistent misfire in the #6 cylinder. I've change out the plugs and wires and am considering changing the fuel injector for that cylinder. Looking it over last night, got me wondering if there is a way to change out the fuel injector without removing the upper intake manifold and the entire fuel rail. As you all know, these things are a beast to work on when the engine is in place. So, is it possible? Inquiring minds want to know (and don't want to spend an entire weekend changing out on fuel injector if there is an easier way )

I was driving to work 2 days ago and all of a sudden my truck started acting all weird. I couldn't accelerate and it seemed as though I was driving over rumble strips. I went directly to the garage and they told me that 2 fuel injectors mal-functioned and that flooded everything with gas. I needed 2 injectors and 8 spark plugs. The next day the garage called and said that they replaced the parts but now there is a terrible knocking noise and that I needed a new engine.
I am not a car wiz so what other things should I be aware of? What other questions should I be asking?
My question is can a cracked injector tip let gases back in the fuel system?
