Ford Excursion :: Driver Side Seat Not Lined Up With Steering Wheel
Aug 14, 2013
The seat in my 2000 gasser Limited is 3" to the right of the steering wheel and lines up with it on the left side. Is that normal?

View 14 RepliesI just noticed this, this weekend, sitting in GTI and Golf. I checked carefully, and indeed it feels like I'm not sitting directly in line with the steering column/wheel. It's not a huge issue, but just a little strange, that they wouldn't match them up straight?
View 24 RepliesLoving my Black on black ES350 so far with 4000 miles, bought July!
Having a very annoying rattle/creaking near the seat belt pillar on the driver's side? This occurs continously even on smooth highway roads. I will ask them to check it out at the 5k service.
Also, my steering wheel slightly "clicks" when turning the steering wheel 1 full turn to the right. It doesn't do it on the left side, and doesn't seem right. No turn signals or anything is on. Just seems flimsy with all these noises!
Driver's side power seat not working correctly. It moves fine when I am not sitting in it, but as soon as I sit in it, it doesn't want to work (the motor starts to engage, albeit weakly, then stalls). I have never worked on a seat before, so I don't even know where I should start looking to fix the problem. 2005 Ex Limited. And is there a part I should be focused on? And how the heck do I dissassmble it? I've seen the seat's diagram, but I really can't tell by that how to take the seat apart.
View 7 RepliesThe driver side seat heater on my '05 X is not working. The orange light comes on but no heat. The passenger side works fine. Where I should start my troubleshoot? Any common/known problem areas?
View 7 RepliesI am not liking this seat. Not sure if something wrong with control lately or I'm just noticing from sitting there more but I want it to lean more forward. I have messed with controls to get it to as forward as it will lean but still feel like it's only touching the very bottom of my back. Is there a spec on seat angle so I could check if it's proper? I'd like to avoid getting a grandma pillow..
View 14 RepliesSo after taking my truck to the car wash my drivers side seat no longer slides forward and is stuck in the all-the-way back position. The little joystick goes up and down, won't go back (since its all the way back) and makes absolutely no noise to go forward.
I've tried the seat recline trick to no avail. I also can't access one of the rear seat bolts because the seat is all the way back. What is going on and is there any way to manually get the seat moved forward?
Fairly new to the ex. I just picked her up from the stealership last night, I'm in love! It's an 05 limited, v10, 71k. Loaded. Still tryin to figure out all the bells and whistles. It has one issue, I think it's minor, the drivers side power seat works intermittently, heat and movement. Being an electrician I believe it's probably a bad connection.
View 14 Replies2003 Ex, EB, bench style middle row. I have owned less than a year.
Purchased with a broken latch assembly the drivers side middle row...promptly replaced for $70. Today, it is broke again, less than a year. I am going to do some more investigating as to HOW this happened TWICE.
Chipped, broken housing on their middle latch assembly? It breaks the black part first, which holds the guts in alignment....once the black part slips down or up to far...the guts do not function.
'13 model. I checked the vehicle customization to have the setting on but I noticed that the driver seat has stop moving assisting easy exit feature. The steering wheel is tilting however. Should I check with the dealer?
View 9 RepliesAfter smelling burning for a few days randomly, I've narrowed it down to the rear driver side wheel. After about on the highway, I stopped, and it is HOT! I pulled the wheel but the hub spins easily 1/16th of a turn or so, as it's in park, so the brakes are not dragging. What else this could be? Or are they dragging at random? The rotor is perfect, no rust and no groves, so hte pads are doing their job. 1/16th of a turn is way exaderation, but it can move. Also there's no sounds at all.
View 13 RepliesStarted hearing a squeak from drivers front wheel area when turning right, thought maybe pads might need replacing but they were fine as were the pins. So I checked for play with tire off ground and there was def some play pulling from top to bottom, so that lead me to the front hub, I read some posts about pulling the abs sensor and getting some grease in the the hub bearing so I did that but when I replaced the sensor and spun the hub it was scrubbing on the bearing.?
So I shimmed the sensor with a washer but now the abs light comes on but there doesn't seem to be a squeak when turning right anymore. Any example of doing this and had the sensor scrub? And with the play I would assume I need to plan to replace the hub assembly fairly soon...

My 2002 Ford Taurus has 73,000 miles and was in good shape except for a small leak under driver's side. Has a new rack and pinion replaced one week ago. Have now noticed small leakage again. Also, when the steering wheel is turned it makes a clicking sound...almost like winding a clock. Rack and pinion replaced and alignment done. Why would it begin leaking again. This is a very comfortable car and has been maintained.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 F150 manual 4WD with 4.6L engine and 165000 miles. When i am driving i feel a vibration in the steering wheel and on floor board that intensifies when i press the accelerator. I do hear an irregular humming that sounds like it is coming from the driver side front. I checked the wheel for any play but it was very tight. i check tie rod ends, ball joints no play. i recently changed both u-joints on the rear shaft and the bearing hub on the passenger side front. Also, the steering feels a little 'wobbly' when i make sharp turns. it almost feels like it is giving. What else should i check?
View 1 RepliesI have an 08 camry v6 with 29500 miles, I've noticed 3 issues that are happening at this point.
1. When I hit 70 mph the steering wheel shakes, I had new tires installed at 25K and smooth braking. The shaking also goes away if I go above 85 mph.
2. I have two plastic Dashboard screws under the black cover that rests around the dash that keep falling out and I cant tighten them back in.
3. My drivers side mirror is vibrating when I start to drive at idle it's fine.
Other than that the car drives great..
A Power Steering leak has developed on my 2002 Alero's driver side near the front wheel. I've been aware from other posts that it may be the Rack and Pinion, a power steering pump or a seal. There has been no noises in my steering when I drive and its steering well as it ever was. I am wondering is there a way to detect what of the three things it may be?, without taking it into a dealership or shop?
View 4 RepliesInitially had indications of a leak under the wheel arch on the drivers side.
About 3-4 months back replaced both PS lines and the leak stopped - briefly (maybe a couple a weeks).
Now the leak is back, but what's interesting is I lose more ATF fluid on a single long haul run than I do running round town for 3 weeks. I can't work out where the leak is coming from to identify what else to replace - short of just buying a pump and reservoir and replacing them as I've already done the hoses.
My turbo cooler pipe was hard up against the old PS pipe where it entered the side of the reservoir until I did the replacement hoses. Now I have it out the way but I'm wondering if it's caused some unseen wear or damage.
If I just do the pump to see if that works are the reman units any good out of Autozone or O'reilly's?
I have a nice 2000 Durango 4x4 SLT, automatic. I have some problems.
1) The drivers door outside latch will not open the door, the inside latch works fine.
2) The shifter on the transfer case is loose, it appears that the drive was left in 2wd since I have been able to use it. But it will not shift?
3) The steering wheel feels like it has a lot of play in it, also feels like a knuckle is in it when I turn it. It sometimes slips on turns at speed?
I love my Ex and I love my dobermann, but the two did not mix one day. In a matter of seconds, he almost chewed completely thru the driver's seat belt. Guess he thought I was taking too long to get out. It's basically hanging on by a quarter inch of fabric and seriously needs replacing.
I figure it can't be that hard to replace myself, but I cannot see how to remove the molding/housing that hides the mechanics of it all. I've been searching for videos, but none of them are for the Ex. :
How I can remove the housing and change the belt myself. Looking for a video or pictures.....
The only control that is working on my driver's seat is the heat. The other controls are not working. I've checked the fuses and tried to recline the seat but that didn't fix. Is there something else I should be looking at?
View 9 RepliesOn the F250 trucks, if I changed the mounting frame under the seat, will the passenger side seat fit on the drivers side? Basically, can I turn a passenger seat into a drivers seat?
