View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 X that the paint is starting to flake/peel off on the door jams and on the inside frame of the door? It has lived it's life in Vegas and wondered if the heat maybe had an effect on it? It is now in the cold of Salt Lake?
View 14 RepliesI am having a starting problem with my Excursion. It cranks but immediately quits as if the entire engine jams or locks up. I thought it was the starter so I replaced the current one with the original starter that I happened to still have from a previous starting problem. The problem persisted. What the problem could be?
View 12 RepliesIn the winter, driving around downtown in Minneapolis can be very... interesting, to say the least. The usual 5 minute trip from the highway exit ramp to the parking garage can take an hour. But hey, it's a job. There's enough stop and go that I can't just put it in park, so I'm riding the brake for most of this hour.
It only happens a couple times a year, but every time we get weather, after about 45 minutes of this, my abs warning light comes on and my abs system stops working. (Finding that out was... unpleasant.)
I pull into the garage, leave my car for the shift, and it's fine on the drive home. Is this normal? What's happening?
This happens many times especially when I am parking parallel and need to take reverse frequently. The steering kind of jams, then vibrates and then the car engine is off. I need to restart every time this happens. This is causing fear to drive the car on highways.
View 5 RepliesI am getting ready to do the door seal mod and have all the materials but can't find the post with the instructions.
View 5 RepliesHaving problem with the rear door latching?the glass hatch closes ok it is just the barn door that wont latch. Is there a fix or do I have to replace the lock mechanism...
View 10 RepliesWent into town earlier and the a/c was not blowing out the 2 passenger side vents. Could switch to defrost and it would blow correctly. The rear is working as well. The drivers side vents blow good and if you cover those with your hands to block them off its like it forces air to blow out the passenger vents. Could this be a blend door issue?
View 2 RepliesAll of my door locks work fine with the key fob or from the master driver side controls. One door lock, the front passenger, will unlock with the rocker switch on that door but will not lock with that switch.
I replaced the rocker switch on that door and I still have the same problem. To me this seems to indicate a problem with the lock wire from the rocker switch to the door actuator since otherwise the actuator works. I believe that is a black/pink wire.
Door ajar light is on all the time. How do I check which of the eight switches are bad. I've tried the wd spray trick before and it worked but now it won't respond to that treatment and is on all the time. Overhead light goes out after a few minutes of driving.
View 14 RepliesSo was replacing the actuator on a few of the doors today. I broke the clip on the passenger side rear door that attaches the exterior door handle to the locking mechanism. It's the clip that sandwiches the rod threads in place. I discovered the front and the rear doors are different in these clips.
What is the part # or diagram with description to find this part? I've found the replacement for the front door, but it doesn't fit the rear. Here is a pic of the front door one.
Dorman Products - 703-240
The difference in the part that connects the the locking mechanism. On the front its a round plug with tabs on it. For the rear it is rectangular and slides in and then rotate 90 degrees to lock in place. Cant for the life of me locate a replacement. Been researching for hours without success.
How to replace the keypad on the drivers door? My 1-2 button has been giving me a hard time the last few weeks. Looking for some of the details about replacing on of these keypads..........
View 14 RepliesBeside the normal tools you will need a mirror, flashlight, very long needlenose pliers, and tin snips. There are 2 screws holding the driver door panel on, one is in the courtesy light at the bottom and the other is inside the switch compartment. You must also twist the light socket out, pop the cover off above the switches, pry the switch pod up at the FRONT and slide forward, and unplug the switches.
Now pull straight up on the panel and remove it after taking the light out at the bottom;
Tape the membrane up out of your way
You will need mirrors like these and very long needlenose.
Remove all the yellow plastic screws holding this aqua connector and it's wires and tuck it into the corner of the door.
Now you have a clear view of the actuator;
Try to pop this yellow plastic clip loose with your fingers and if not drill a hole above the oval hole and use a screwdriver;
Take the 3 screws out at the latch;
Push the plastic screws in holding the black cable and look through the oval hole to locate the green clip holding the rod to the door latch handle.
Cut the oval hole bigger so you can access the next steps;
Rotate the whole unit around until you can pop the green clip loose with a screwdriver by prying or pulling on the small side of the green clip and then locate the rod next to it (not mentioned in other posts), and disconnect it by using your very long needle nose to squeeze one side and a long screwdriver to pry the rod out;
Rotate the entire unit out around the window track, remove the wire harness, unplug the two other harnesses, and insert screwdriver under actuator before sliding it off.
Now you are ready to do the tin foil fix or just replace the actuator.
I have an '02 X. I have re-programmed the seat belt alarm setting per the owners manual and set the "lights on after ignition off" to suit my needs.
The one thing that is driving me nuts though is that when I turn the ignition off and get out only the driver's door is unlocked. I want ALL locks to unlock. I haven't seen anything in the manual about this. How to re-program the locks so that they all unlock when the ignition is switched off?
I've put put about 2000 miles on the X now, towing my 5000lb trailer, mild offroading and running around town. It sure puts a smile on my face!
I just had a heck of a day. I was using my weed whacker to clean up my front yard before the city got on my case- we got a bunch of rain so the desert is oddly very green. Anyway, I was working on the other side of my yard when I hear a sickening, loud pop sound. I turn off the trimmer and go to look at the Ex, thinking a rock somehow hit the door panel pretty hard. No damage. Weird, I think.
As I'm turning around, my eyes glance up to see... my driver's side rear door window in a million pieces being held together by the tint. Holy. Dang. My trimmer kicked up a rock which flew a good 25-30 feet and shattered my door glass.
So, I am planning on ordering a replacement glass online. I's it a very difficult job? I have done window glass before, but just in old trucks and cars- 1960 Falcon, 1969 F100, 1970 F500, 1976 Jaguar XJ-12. Never did a new truck.
I've searched the forums a bit but haven't found a definitive answer on my problem.
My back hatch door on my Ex won't lock.
Sadly anyone could climb through the back after I 'lock' it via remote. I have the standard ford sec systm which is just locking and need auth key to start.
Any solid leads I can get for my 2001
So I bought a set of 05 towing mirrors today, got them installed and need to get the door panels off so I can disconnect the wire clip. I figured I would swap out the speakers while in there too so I assume 6X9? Also when I click the keyless entry button on the remote it unlocks all the doors but the driver door. The lock moves a little so I know it's getting a little tug but I still have to use the key to open it. What can I do to fix this?
View 10 RepliesI bought my 2001 with 85k and prepared myself that it would likely need some work. Had cat-back replaced a week after purchase. Next up, door locks - I can hear the switches in all 4 doors trying to lock/unlock, they move ever so slightly which makes me think that due to minor usage over the past 14 years, they are just a bit sticky on the inside of the door panel. Before I go tearing off the door panels. Not sure I uploaded pics correctly....
View 5 RepliesThe right rear door on my X is rattling when I hit a bump. The door is not closing tight enough. I can reproduce the noise by just pushing on the door. I don't see any adjustments that I can make.
View 14 RepliesI spent write a bit of time and this process is living proof i can't do it.
View 5 RepliesWhen I turned the key on, interior lights stayed on and the door "ajar" icon was on. Open and shut all the doors including the rear hatch. Still on. Did it again and still on. Ran X through the car wash yesterday and all worked OK when I parked it. Didn't have my glasses on so I could not see a specific door open. In fact they all appeared to be open. Did not have time to screw with it.
Where are the door/hatch switches located?
