I have a god awful creaking and popping sound from within my dash. It is directly related to my steering wheel. I can recreate it by pushing down on the wheel but I cannot track it down. I have the dash apart now.
View 3 RepliesJust replaced the front struts last week and the upper control arms this morning. After putting everything back together I drove her around the block and noticed a horrible popping and squeaking like something was loose. I quickly limped her home and double checked that everything went back on properly and was tight. Car is the V6 with eibach's and about 103,000 miles I have drain and filled the tranny every 30-40k.
What this sound might be? It goes away once I am above about 10-15 mph and sounds like it is coming from the center underside of the car. I will also try to get a video of the sound while I am driving.

Cutting to the chase i m planning to buy new sonata with panoramic roof but I've read at many places that any car with panoramic roof rattles alot ... i really love panoramic roof but after seeing so many issues with panoramic roof i am very disappointed .... is that really true. .. and I cannot withstand rattles while driving at all nowadays i have chevy trail blazer and i only hate it because it rattles ALOT...i don't want to hear any more rattle specially in a brand new vehicle.

Problem: Popping noise only on making turns, feels like its coming from underneath me. If i drive through a parking lot and jerk the wheel right and left I can make it do the same sound.
What's been done:
1. Replaced ALL the body mounts with new aftermarket mounts.
2. Replaced front leaf springs with new ubolts and everything
3. replaced sway bar end links
I took it to a local dealership to have them check it out (they are very trusted and reputable and I have an excellent relationship with them) and they thoroughly checked out everything. It's not the ball joints or anything front end (ball joints were replaced by them a year ago).
I'm at a complete loss, I feel I "attacked" all the common problems in these trucks that would cause that popping sound....what's left???
They assure me theres no safety issue or anything that would be a huge cause for concern, but that pop drives me a little crazy. I am a little OCD with my trucks.
I have a strange creaking sound coming for the floor pan below my drivers seat. It creaks whenever I'm braking or cornering a turn. I checked the body bushing and did a visual. Everything seems tight.
View 7 RepliesSo , on my 2002 Ex 4x4 v10 I have a creaking noise coming from what sounds like under the front passenger floor board. My mother said she actually could feel a vibration in the floor when it made the sound today going to lunch. I cannot feel it on my side or the steering wheel. It is intermittent at various speeds and not any more or less prevalent when turning either direction.
Does not seem to interfere in anyway with steering or handling, just driving me nuts. Truck just had new brakes, rotors, and tires installed. Vehicle is new to me, picked it up yesterday. Did not notice it on test drive or 60 mile ride home, but now that I am aware of it , it is driving me nuts. Headed on a long 2 week trip this weekend.
When car is on , I am hearing a subtle knocking/popping sound I thought was from climate control but not so as even when it's off i hear it. It sounds like a popp noise from maybe passenger side. What component might be doing this?

I just recently traded in my '07 SWB for an '11 LWB (75k miles) and am loving the engine (sans hesitation) and ride etc. etc.
The only thing that's been really bugging me is that during cornering, the body seems to twist and "wind up", and as it does this, something(s) under the body moves and creaks/pops noisily. Then as I straighten the car out or turn the opposite direction, whatever had moved settles back out and I get more creaking/popping.
I thought it might be back door seals or door latch (based on that being a typical german car issue/solution) so I treated the seals and lubricated the latches, but the sounds didn't change at all. I would say, as a guess (tracking down noises can be super deceiving), the sounds seem to be coming from below the floor pan. I also wouldn't say the issue changes with outdoor temperature.
I have a 2002 Passat Auto 1.8T, and everytime I slow down I have this loud creaking, or popping noise. It usually happens when the car is slowing down, or when I'm first starting off from a red light, stop sign, etc. It's annoying as hell! I searched the forums, and no one had this exact problem.
View 4 RepliesI have some noise coming from the front suspension. It is a popping/sorta creaking noise. I hear it mostly when turning, but sometimes while going straight. It is not a grinding sound, nor is it a high pitched sound. I took it to my mechanic, but they drove it and could not replicate the noise. They inspected the front end, and said everything looked fine. But I still hear the noise. The car has a little over 40k miles on it. No problems with the tires...no irregular wear, and no wandering. I looked at the front end, and didn't find anything obvious. I cannot replicate the noise just by pushing on the fenders up and down.
View 64 RepliesI noticed that it started recently and does it consistently... When I accelerate from a stop there is a creaking/popping noise that comes from the front of the car. It is difficult to pinpoint but you can make it do it every time and it only happens from a complete stop. My '12 only have 6k on it.
View 12 RepliesGot a 03 GTI VR6 and my drivers door kept on making this creaking/popping noise(it is very similar to the creaking noise of a old wooden door or the sound you hear in horror movies but for a lot shorter duration). The sound seems to come up when I accelerate, break take off from a complete stop. I took the car into the dealership and they torqed some bolt on the hinge and the creaking went away. Not a month later the passenger door develops the same creaking. The dealer tries to torqe the bolt on the hinge again and they say it cant be done and that their body shop needs to replace the hinge. They paint a hinge for me and put it on but don't get the door adjustments right so I get a lot of wind noise. Finally they adjust the door right and all is well.
A while later the drivers door starts creaking again! I went to another dealership and did an oil change while I was away on a trip to Toronto and the service technician said he could lubricate the door gasket and that this will take the creaking away. So he did. Now granted that has taken the creaking away but after some rain and 2 car washes the creaking came back in full swing.
I call the dealership to set up an appointment and they refuse to look at the door saying that as far as they are concerned the vehicle is up to manufacturers specs and that they will need to get a VW rep to look at it. In the mean time I call the vw customer care which tells me that they contacted the dealer and that the dealer beleves that the car is up to manufacturers specifications and that the noise I am hearing is normal and that all the cars have this noise.
Now I owned an 02 Golf GL 2dr and never heard that sound. It's been a month and a half and neither the dealer or vw customer care have called to inform me when the VW area rep. will be coming to have a look at the issue. It looks like I hit a dead end with having my issue acknowledged and looked at. Is this really a standard noise on the mk4 2dr platforms ? How I should pursue this issue ?!? Anything ?!

Now, this summer, it has started creaking and popping when I go over wavy roads or take sharp curves at speed.
If I accelerate/decelerate the frame pops over on the passenger side and I hear pops in the trunk area.
I wonder how much longer it will be safe to drive.
While driving, the drive side door makes a creaking/clunking/rattle/popping noise. Its so damn annoying. It's all the time, if you roll the window down it doesn't do it as loud, but its cold out..

View 10 RepliesIt has done this to me several times--both sides. Still learning about these auto lock hubs--though I did get them to "auto lock" now. It looks like the hub lock is not going as far down and creating depth for the retainer ring as I have seen on some youtube videos. I have taken out the hub lock and cleaned the outside of it before and cleaned its seating area but I have not disassembled and cleaned the hub locks themselves--had this about 4 months.
Last night, I had the right front tire off checking brakes. When I go to put the tire on--heavy mothers--I had it hanging on the outer part of the hub lock (installed of course). We're talking seconds here. I pick the tire up to put it on the lugs and the inside of the rim hits against the retainer clip area and it pops out. Why these frigging things keep popping off or hub not seating fully? Is there a reason these have el cheapo dryer vent clips instead of screws or something else?
A few months ago I would periodically hear a "pop" from the front end. Most of the time when doing a slow turn or backing. As I just had completed a V/B swap I focused on that. I never could find anything wrong/loose. It seemed to go away for awhile but now has returned. I put the truck back up in the air. Checked sway bar links/mounts, ball joints, shocks, and hub bearings. Still no luck.
A mechanic friend suggested bad shock. In the last two days it had really increased in frequency. This morning I was looking around as I was at work and I noticed that the steering link bar from the box to the passenger side arm was movable by hand. How much play should this have? Got a big trip planned pulling the trailer coming up very soon and I need to get this fixed fast so that its safe.
So I just don't have any luck with anything turbo related. Last time it was my intercooler that went out. Now the passenger side intercooler tube keeps popping off and the damn clamp is broken so I can't tighten back up to even get me to the damn truck stop. I guess it could be worse...it could be late at night and raining...oh what, it is.
View 14 RepliesMy 01 Excursion Limited 6.8L 2wd is having what I think is a tranny/shifting issue? Mileage is about 160K. She has been doing just fine and no recent work or out of the ordinary maintenance/replacements..
Got in her this morning to go and noticed that the tranny seemed different. First thing I noticed was that the shift form 1 to 2 was long in coming and then sort of hard / thump when it did change. Then is seems to rev higher in the rpm range than normal when going into 3rd maybe 4th.? I pulled over into a parking lot, turned it off and did a brief inspection of the underside, fluid, etc.. and did not find anything strange. Started her back up and went to leave when I heard a popping / thumping noise from the tranny. Threw it in neutral and reved the motor to see what it sounded like and it was good. Back in drive again and the noise was there. Seemed to go away after getting up to say 45/50mph but the shifts were still off. Took her back home and now trying to decide whats first on diagnosing this issue?
I cannot figure out where the noise is coming from. I cannot duplicate the noise just by shaking the truck even with two guys on each side. It's not a squeak, but more of a clunk or a pop. I can feel it in the floor with my left foot if I press it against the fire wall where it meets the floorboard.
View 14 Replies2000 Excursion V10 4x4. I'm getting a popping noise coming from the rear end when I apply the brakes and come to a complete stop and when I release the brakes to take off. It only happens the moment it comes to a complete stop and the moment it takes off. Not when I'm putting it in forward or reverse or accelerating or decelerating. U joints are fine. I was laying under the truck poking around the other day and when I roll it back and forth in park the few inches it'll go, when it comes to the end of it's travel the axle wraps a little and it seems like the transfer case output shaft flange is moving in and out of the transfer case and causing the noise. I'm assuming there is a snap ring holding the output bearing in place. I didn't have time to drop the driveshaft but am planning on it this weekend to see if it still does it when I roll it and to inspect the transfer case. I need to check to make sure the driveshaft splines are not seized up but they seem to have a little free play to them.
