Ford Excursion :: Center Console Cigarette Lighter Cover Replacement
Feb 10, 2013
I want to replace the cover on the center console cigarette lighter. I know how to access it from the inside of the console, but I don't know how to remove it. I don't want to break it.

I'm working on replacing my center console with a wooden one. I'm having trouble getting the center box (under the arm rest) removed; I found the 4 screws in it but I'm having trouble getting the cigarette lighter / power adapter out. The outlet doesn't seem to push forward like, say, the one next to the shifter lever. Nor does it seem to unscrew. Am I missing something obvious?

The cigarette lighter adapter inside the center console of my 2010 Prius (next to the USB/iPod and AUX plugs) does not appear to be working, although the adapter underneath the gear shifter works fine. A few weeks ago, I found some coins, which I keep inside that center console that had gotten wedged inside the cigarette lighter adapter cavity. It was after removal of those coins that I first learned that the adapter was not working (I tried a few different devices to make sure that it was the adapter itself not working).
From reading the web, it sounds like the fix may be as simple as replacing the fuse. From what I understand, the fuse is just above the emergency parking brake. If so, where do I purchase a new fuse and how much does a new fuse cost? Also, how do I know which fuse needs replacing? Is that in the instruction manual?

In my 2007 SF Ltd 3.3L both the Cig lighter and front console power outlet keep blowing fuses. I've checked inside the of the sockets and they seem just fine. This is no big deal but I would like to charge my phone. What I should look at next?

So I have a really weird problem. The cigarette lighter in my 97 Ford Escort wasn't working, so I thought I'd check the fuse. Got under the dash, pulled the fuse, sure enough, it was blown. So I threw a new 20A in there. I put my usb charger back in the cigarette lighter, and had to wiggle it a little bit to get it to work, but it worked. (It's always been like this, the actual housing is probably shorting out, which could be the cause of the blown fuse, i Know lol)
So I turn off the car and walk back in the house. 10 minutes later I come back out to the car, and the light on the usb charger is still on, as is the RADIO. It simply won't turn off! No key in the ignition, nothing. But the radio is still on, and the cigarette lighter still has power.
So out of curiosity, I pulled the new fuse I just put in. The radio turned off. But get this. The cigarette lighter still works. I think it may have been working the whole time, but I for some reason was never able to wiggle it just right to get it to work. So the cigarette lighter seems to have no change with or without the fuse, but the radio will be stuck on all the time if there is a fuse in this spot.

08 LS600hL. The cigarette/power outlet in center console shorts out instantly. I have changed the fuse a couple times. Tested several different plugs. The ashtray and rear console power outlets both work perfectly. Nothing else seems to have any issues, radio, windows, climate, etc.

Any possibility that there's an off switch that I accidentally hit?

I just started observing this today. The center console cover often refuses to rise up when depressed to unlock . If I try about 10 - 20 times, while using the other hand to facilitate swinging around the hinge, it eventually co-operates. I removed the MDI connector to be sure it wasn't causing the issue

My 2012 Prius makes noise in cold days. After careful examination I found the noise comes from the rubbing between the joystick cover and the center console bridge cover. If I press the joystick cover with my fingers, the noise will be significantly reduced or even eliminated. So I think if I put a layer of soft material there, I may be able to eliminate the noise. How to remove the center console bridge cover? Either pictures or video will be great.

I've been trying to figure this one out but no luck. I plugged a air pump into the cigarette lighter to air my tire. I lost power to the cigarette lighter And the OBD ll . Went to change the fuse and the fuse was still good although it was a 30 amp and should have been a 20 amp, I'm still getting continuous power to the hot side of the fuse. Is there a fuse or relay I'm missing or did I fry a wire?

There I was driving down the road, minding my own business. My phone was charged full so I reached to disconnect the car charger and the tip fell off the charger and shorted out my cigarette lighter socket. My owners manual does not show where the fuse is located in the fuse box? It does not mention the "lighter fuse" by name......
I called the Ford Dealership parts department where I purchased my Lariat and was told I he could not nor would not tell me which fuse is blown. Everything else seems to work. Haven't tried my sync lately, better do that. Where the fuse is? My fuse box is inside engine compartment by the radiator.

I have a 96 Ranger . Neither my cigarette lighter or the auxiliary right beneath it works. The fuse checks good at the panel and I also used one of the penlight 12 volt testers and it shows no voltage on the lighter housing. Could there be another fuse under the hood that shares that circuit or do I have an open somewhere and need to tear down the dashboard? I haven't been inside that dashboard since I replace my cluster and the lighter worked after doing so. But I wish to avoid going back in there.

Why my cig lighter and cell phone charger stopped working. I changed the fuse but it did not solve the problem. I don't smoke but I love to charge my cell phone when I go hunting overnight.

I pushed in my lighter about 10 minutes ago to light a cigarette, and now it won't come back out!! I tried prying it out to no avail.. and the outlet stays on when the car is off.

I need to pull my front overhead console to make some changes, gonna try to mount my sirius cradle up there to get it out of the way. Can't figure out how it is fastened up there. Also, I need to pull the cover off the rear seat DVD player as I want to solder in some RCA's onto the aux in. Can't figure this one out either, and I'm afraid to break the cover.

I have a 2006 Camry LE. About a year or so ago, my cig lighter power went out (both dash and arm rest.) I replaced the fuses for the Cig and Power Point and they worked again.
Well, they've gone out again. I replaced both of those fuses again and it's a no go. Still not working.
Is there any other fuse it could be? What might have happened here? I'm really hoping it's not a huge expensive fix. It's a huge pain not being able to charge anything, and I was just about to start driving for Uber too. I really need these back online.

So I have an Android smartphone. That I always put on the charger in my 2005. However. I have blown the fuse to the cigarette lighter. Both the one in the center console and the one under the passenger side dashboard.
The last time that happened. I bought the indicated 15 Amp fuse (as the Owner's Manual indicates - vaguely) Only to find that swapping out fuse 20 IIRC. Yielded no power to those ports.

Every couple of days, my 20 amp cigarette lighter fuse (#13) will blow. It is connected to the lumbar seats, the cigarette lighter, the interior door lock switches (not the key FOB - that is separate). I've tried using a 25 amp and that didn't work.

I just bought a 2012 Prius 3 and sold my wife's BMW 3. I still have my X5 though and one of the convenience I'm missing in the Prius is having the cigarette lighter adapter always supplying power even though the ignition is in 0 position and key out of the socket as in my X5.
