Ford Excursion :: CEL On - Overhead Console No Longer Lights Up
Oct 15, 2012
CEL - code escaping me but it said #7 glow plug (ordered a scantool yesterday).
Shifting - its at lowest been in the 30's and the truck has issues shifting until its warm. Its wierd, its like the water temp gauge stays at cold, then snaps up and shifting is fine from then on. Takes what I think is a long time to get there, not a gradual temp change, just like click and the gauge is on.
Lots of electrical looking issues, maybe all tied together?
- Shut doors sometimes flashers blink
- Overhead console no longer lights up
- Door ajar and overhead lights on when doors are tight
- more oddities but I can't think of them now

I was wondering about swapping out the short OH console on a 2001 F350 Lariat with the longer one that has two doors for a garage opener etc? Are the clips on the base plate the same? I see the longer console shells on e bay for a little over 100 bucks which seems like a no brainer if it snaps in place of the shorty. Looks like the temp and compass slots are identical.

The little screen that shows the MPG and outside temp went out a few months back. Getting close to winter so i'm getting more interested in fixing it if it's a simple thing. Where I should start? AFAIK, everything else works fine. This is on a 2000 Limited.

As far as I can tell, Expeditions, Excursions and Navigators all had this same part in them but for whatever reason it seems like it's next to impossible to find on its own - I don't want to buy a whole overhead console for one part.
Here is what I'm talking about:
I want to replace the lens and buttons, not just the missing button (which is somewhere inside my truck)
Is it Part #5 on this? [URL] ....
I can't find an individual part # - Is it because the overhead console was sold as a whole?

The read out light on my overhead console (the read out that tells the awesome fuel mileage Im getting) isnt working, and hasnt been since I got my excursion a month ago. Thats the only thing on it that doesnt work and was wondering if it could be a bulb, or is this a common problem and if so whats the fix?

On my 2000 Ex my overhead console screen does not work. I have searched and found a few F series ones but nothing about the removal of the huge console. Is it pretty much the same process?

Do the Ford Expedition overhead console is identical to the Excursion? I have an '04 XLT and the overhead console is damaged. I found a replacement unit for the '04 Expedition in the same color and the seller has no idea if the units are interchangeable.

'05 Ex overhead console temp is showing -40 deg... Had the board out looking for loose diodes, didn't see any. Have any of you ran into this before?

Wife just told me tonight that the overhead console and rear heater are not working in the excursion. Of course, we have a 3 hour drive tomorrow and it is cold outside.. The posts seem to center on either the readout not working or the heater not working, but not both. Trying to minimize time troubleshooting outside in the cold.

I need to pull my front overhead console to make some changes, gonna try to mount my sirius cradle up there to get it out of the way. Can't figure out how it is fastened up there. Also, I need to pull the cover off the rear seat DVD player as I want to solder in some RCA's onto the aux in. Can't figure this one out either, and I'm afraid to break the cover.

Looking for a replacement part for the Copper Ring that bulb screws into? Attached is a picture I copied from a previous post. Notice the copper ring. On mine 2000 Excursion one of these rings is broken.

I am working with a 2006 Mountaineer Premium with rear heat/ac, sunroof, and Homelink. I need to remove the overhead console to replace burned out map lights. I cannot determine how to remove the console.
The shop manual has instructions for 2 styles of overhead consoles but not the one in this vehicle. Those 2 styles have a sun glass or garage door opener compartment that you open to access some screws.
This console has the map lights at the front, the controls for the rear ac/heat in the middle, and a panel for the sunroof switch and Homelink buttons at the rear. There is no room for a compartment that opens.
I can get the front portion loose by pulling it down off the clips. The back seems to held in by screws. I do not want to apply much force to avoid damaging anything.

A while ago (1 yr) I read and did the pull the wire thing to keep the lie o meter bright all the time. It worked fine, but all of a sudden it seems dim. I can barely read it in the day time. Fine at night. Could it be that the LED's are starting to fail, or some other weirdness? How to remove the overhead console?

I'd like to stick my Garmin up next to the rear view mirror and not have a wire hanging down. Tapping into power above the overhead console? I should be able to clip the plug off the Garmin power cord and tie into 12vdc directly and tuck the short wire where the rear view wire comes out.
