Ford Excursion :: Adding A Leaf On Each Spring?
Dec 5, 2012
The local shop here suggested getting a set of F350 springs and they would take them apart and a leaf to the front and rear springs.

View 2 RepliesI got the new ones, (as mentioned in another thread) and they're the same as the old ones. Well, the one that's still in one piece.
I guess I'm missing something very simple, but as easy as it would be to cut the old one out...how do I make room between the lower leaf and the other leaf pack to get it out?
I about hung from the lower leaf and it didn't move quite enough to give the room to remove the bumper.
Replaced front leaf springs to procomp, now i got a clunking noise from right leaf spring rear eye(and a little bit from the left).
Can it be that:
I've tighten them to much? Wrong way (big eye is in front)? Got about 4" lift in front and haven't received rear leveling kit yet so the angel is wrong?
My leaf spring swap is almost complete... its been almost 3 weeks with all the conflicts of life but its getting near completion. Just have to do front passenger side now.. Tomorrow and it should all be done.. hopefully... Any ways... my preliminary numbers are 40" front (ground to fender) and 41.5" rear.. Might be 1/2" to 1" off since I haven't finished the job AND the truck is sitting on dirt. Any ways, What size wheel/tires can I fit on there now? And will I need a spacer with that size?
View 1 RepliesConversion from the dana 50 to the newer dana 60 with coil spring? My Dana 50 has called it quits so while my front end is already off the vehicle already why not make improvements. Ford used the 50 for 1999 to 2002 then upgraded to the 60, I'm guessing it was for a reason!
I've read this article on a similar project but the dana 60 had leaf springs as well: Dana 60 Conversion for F250 years 1986-1996 .: Articles I'd prefer coil spring, nothing more then personal preference with a bit of better ride quality. The donor vehicle is a 06 SRW F250 This is not what I'll be getting but just as an example of the parts I would get.
I am replacing my rear leaf spring hanger and shackle. I have one side done and the other side the old hanger is off. I am ready to install but the bolt/ bushing in the leaf spring will not come out. I tried every thing with what i had for about 2 hours. Is there a tool to remove these things similar to a ball joint press.
View 14 RepliesI've got an '08 FX4 that has developed quite a loud and annoying squeak from the rear leaf springs. It happens when I'm slowly applying power and going over bumps such as speed bumps or similar. More so when I'm going up hill.
I initially thought it was a u-joint going bad, and had my driveline mechanic take a look at it. He discovered it was the rear leafs making the noise. He sprayed them with an aerosol light grease and the noise was instantly gone. The problem is, the noise comes back after the grease spray has worn off (usually after driving in the rain) which happens a lot in the Vancouver area.
This is my 3rd Ranger and I have never had this problem. I don't drive in unusual places (beach, sandy, dusty areas) so I don't know why this is happening. It does look rusty in the areas that I can see in between the individual leafs. Is this a common problem for this vintage of Ranger?
Where I can get or have a speed nut for the front eye bolt of the right rear leaf spring? If you do I'll gladly send you some cash for it and to cover shipping it. It's supposed to rain pretty much all week here and I really don't want to go to a junkyard. I have checked ford parts and nothing there you can get the hanger that attaches to the frame that the spring bolts to but not the speed nut or bolt only need the speed nut though. Truck is an 2004 f-250 so 1999-04 will work and 05 to 07 is setup the same in the rear but I don't know if they are the same size bolt since they made the frame heavier. I have no idea after 07 when they made the springs longer.
View 1 RepliesOn my 99 at the tip of the springs there is what looks used to be plastic wear spacers between the leafs. Mine are worn out and I think it is part of a squeak noise I am chasing.
What that part would be, where I could get them, and do I have to break down the leaf assembly to change them or could I raise the truck by the frame and take the load off the springs enough to get the in?
I just realized my driver's side front leaf spring on my 2002 F250 has snapped. I checked the weight sticker on my truck and it weighs 5200lbs in the front. My question is the heaviest springs I found only support 2630lbs a piece, so being a 7.3 is 5200lbs a correct weight for the front of this truck? also why would Ford make springs that support only 60lbs more than the front weight? Hell I weight more than 60lbs.... Did I snap the damn thing just by climbing into the cab?!?!
View 6 RepliesMy front passenger leaf spring just broke on my 2000 f-350. My front springs are T code, but I was wondering if a could replace the broken one with a code X spring as a temp fix until I get a leaf spring replacement delivered?
View 1 RepliesWhat is the width between the spring perches on leaf sprung 99-04 front axle. I searched and cant seem to find a dimension listed anywhere. i tried the dana60 bible on the pirate site as well, but it doesn't list the spring perch dimensions, only for the pre 99 styles
View 2 Replies2003 F250 7.3... I noticed a water leak dripping down onto passenger side front leaf spring. I saw this before but attributed it to the AC (which kicks butt) but haven't used the AC. No scent to the clear fluid, temps all look good. Running fine. Where does the AC discharge go? Could AC be on (not on AC but set in blue zone on dial)? Reservoir looks ok but could e small volume of drips.
View 12 RepliesAny success story on converting 2003 or 2004 f350 with leaf spring front end to the 2005-2007 f350 coil front end is it possible?
View 8 RepliesBeen chasing this for a few weeks and getting fed up. Have a bad metal on metal "creaking" noise from the front at low speeds.
Background - Replaced springs with X code front and modded C code rear from Junior at ATS. Also replaced shocks at the same time. All hardware tightened with weight on suspension. Have rechecked torque on ubolts many times, even loosened and retightened both ends of the shackles, sway bar links, shocks, etc.
Can't get the noise to go away. Hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from but you can "feel" the noise in the back half of the front springs.
Trying to figure out if my front leafs are factory or not. I assume so but they look extremely weak for a 9k rig.
View 14 RepliesI work at a ford dealership in detroit, im looking into doing a v/b code swap, and just had some questions. my current stock excursion springs are completely shot. so i need new ones so might as well do the swap. do i need to order or get anything other than the v code springs, and the b code springs, new u-bolts, and modify the b code springs? i do not need shackles or anything to have the ex sit level when im done..? just making sure before i get involved. have viewed many topics on here about it and just want a definitive answer. 2005 excursion, v10. i actually wanted to go with the X's in front, but i dont know how to make those level in back.
View 14 RepliesA couple years ago I did the V Modded B spring swap on my Excursion. The rear was quite a bit higher than the front so I added the 3rd leaf from the old rear springs to the new front and that worked but it is still a bit higher in the rear. I regularly tow one of two different trailers 3000 lb and 5000 lb and occasionally a 20" car hauler 6000-8000 lb. The smaller ones barely squat the rear of the truck. I recently added a Plow and would like to raise the front so it is level with the rear. I need to raise the front about 1-1.5 inches. What front shackle do I need?
View 14 RepliesI'm looking at a pair of springs from a donor truck f250/350. The number on the spring is (rpn 0612 2c34 ca). How to decode this? I know it has an overload top spring. I'm looking for a two inch lift over stock springs.
View 5 RepliesI thought I had come across a chart here that showed you the different spring ratings and the expected height change difference from stock, for each engine option.
View 7 RepliesHere is my current situation. No cruise, Replaced clock spring because the air bag light was also on. Still no cruise, checked fuses, they are fine, replaced bulb in gauge cluster. Still no light coming on at all, so I can't do the self test. Do you think my steering wheel switches are bad? Is there anything else I can check?
