I was driving around town yesterday and everything is good until i get ready to go somewhere this morning and i noticed a small oil leak has started. What is leaking here and what i need to do to fix it?
View 6 RepliesCan't put it off any longer. Cold start I am getting the exhaust leak at the manifolds on an '01 V10. It's worse on the passenger side than on the driver side. So, I know the bolts/studs fatigue and snap off causing this. With my luck probably flush in the head. So who has done these and how bad was it? If I'm going to do this I am going to swap in a set of shorty headers instead of installing gaskets.

I have a fuel elk coming from the fuel rail on top of an orange; what I can only assume is an injector? Fuel races out of it and puddles beneath the truck. I hate driving it cause now everything stinks like gas. I've tried pushing on it with no luck. How hard would it be to fix this issue? I'm mechanically inclined but feel this may be beyond my skills.
View 5 RepliesI've had an ABS light on for awhile now & appears to be from the VSS. When I looked this is what I found. It's been replaced before by a mechanic. Wondering if it's some o-ring failure. I couldn't get the bolt loosened at the time but plan on tackling it next weekend.
View 5 RepliesOk, I have capped off the vacuum lines to the front hubs and replaced the vacuum solenoid on the passenger inner fender. Still stuck on defrost. I know there are several options from this point what would be the next step after what I have just recently done. Going away on a ski trip and would like to have it working properly before I go.
View 14 RepliesI had a minor front accident in my EX last week. Seemed fine to drive, AC worked radiator was oK. Shifted fine. Bumper was all jacked up. I took off the bumper and ordered a new one. In the meantime an employee of mine drove the EX on a short errand. Evidently there was a nick in the front tranny cooler hose that burst on the interstate. He put a few quarts in it and limped back to the farm where we fixed the leaking hose and refilled the tranny. As it is now, reverse works fine, but when shifted to drive it doesnt shift into 1st and could possibly be stuck in overdrive. If I turn off the overdrive button on the shifter, all gears work as they should except of course OD. if I'm at highway speed in 3rd gear, I can turn overdrive back on and it will shift into overdrive. If I stop, I have the turn off the overdrive button to use 1st 2nd and 3rd.
View 4 RepliesTrying to get the a/c working on the EX. Tried to pull a vacuum and heard a leak coming from near the firewall. After a closer look I could see the larger line was rubbing against the rear head stud. That line is a hard to remove and replace. So if you have a studded 6.0, take time to look at your lines to make sure they have proper clearance.
View 1 RepliesI did a coolant flush following the instructions posted on this site. In fact I did a little more than just a flush - replaced degas bottle cap, replaced thermostat and installed a coolant filtration system.
There were no leaks before I started and the only reason I did the flush was that there was green antifreeze in it.
I noticed that there was half a gallon of coolant under it in the parking lot this afternoon - the degas bottle still has coolant in it, so I drove it home and inspected the thermostat housing and top radiator hose, as well as all fittings and hoses installed as part of the coolant filter. Everything was dry.
I tracked the leak to the lower radiator hose - the one thing I did not touch as I drained from the petcock. Coolant is running down the lower radiator hose.
Could the new radiator cap have increased the pressure in the system to a point where it identified a weak point that was not leaking before?
My temps are great, ECT is stable about 188F - 190F and EOT is stable around 192F - 194F. I ran it hard and got temps up to around 200F and they both came back down to 192F range very quickly when I backed off. They were actually running about 5F higher before the flush.
I will try running the old cap to see if there is a difference, but if the lower hose is the weak point I'd prefer to replace that and run the new OEM cap.
My new/used 2000 4x4 excursion with 214000 miles on it has a transmission fluid leak.
It could be a rear portion of pan gasket but it seems to be coming out of the area where the transmission bolts to the extension housing.
I just put a transfer case in it. Thought all the fluid all over was due to exploded T case.
It seems the output shaft seal may be bad. I cannot seem to find an OEM part number for this seal.
What is part number for this seal, if one exists? Maybe the seal is in the extension housing and it's just the gasket between Trans and housing.
We bought the X like almost year an a half or two years ago. Since the day we bought her shes had an exhaust leak on the pass side. Ive been a mechanic forever and it didn't bother me at purchase. Well I finally get around to it this last weekend. My son and I get to repairing her on saturday. Well we got manifold off with the intention of ordering a new set of headers. Well Luke talks me into just replacing the broken stud (got lucky only had 1 on the pass side). And replacing the gasket. So I took the manifold to get resurfaced,got the new studs and gaskets.
We reassy everything. It went well, start her up and wow shes finally quiet. I love it. So were sitting there admiring our work (took most the day as we had to drive 40 minutes away 1 way to get parts and angle drill alone). As were sitting there chattin for 5 minutes im like do you hear that.....Its getting louder luke WTF.....WELL IN 5 MINUTES THE DAMN LEAK IS BACK... It sounds like its back at the original place but while listing with a hose it sounds like its also at the y pipe. But the sound can be traveling......
I def am not a fan of Autozones felpro gaskets but they have worked in the past. But they look NOTHING like the factory units but still should work. Well I searched all weekend and read tons of posts on what to get. As I def want to replace the y pipe also. In the end said ok,what the hell. I just got off the phone with BANKS. I ordered headers,y pipe,gaskets,etc. I didnt want to spend that much but after pricing headers (from all manuf's and a new y pipe) the BANKS complete system wasn't much more...
Kit should be here tomorrow or wed at the latest. And I just want my X to be exhaust leak free. Im not big on taken pics during install of stuff but ill try and ill post up after it done.
My 2000 7.3 excursion has a diesel fuel leak. I don't now where to start looking to fix this. I hope it's not a hard line. I don't even see the leak and I don't know where to look a shop doing a safety inspection said I had a diesel fuel leak and fuel was collecting in the valley.
Where I should start looking. Is this an expensive fix? Is the common place to check that is easy to repair?
I average 16.5 miles per gallon. My fuel economy dropped about 1 1/2 years ago after my CPS was replaced due to recall. My truck is 2000 4x4 limited.
Our axle seal went out 2500 Miles ago. Its a light leak and just wets the axle by the U-Joints. Also our 4x4 hubs don't kick into action when they should. I have to put them in Lock to get them to work. That may be why the axle seal went out, because I just leave it in lock then drive thousands of highway miles. (I don't do that anymore now that I know what I was doing) Maybe the vacuum isn't working. Could they have anything to do with each other? I don't think they do. I'm not sure how the vacuum works. Maybe I just need to service the Hub? I watched a video on it that made it seem like cake. New hubs crazy expensive!

View 4 RepliesI've seen this talked about before and it's happened to me before as well but now the tranny is leaking onto my Ypipe a couple times per week and it's giving me a hard time when I try to reverse. revs drop and it stalls if I don't give it enough gas.
So I know I have to change the seal but Ford is telling me the torque converter will need to be replaced but another transmission shop told me once the seal is changed and fluid level set appropriately I shouldn't have the reversing problem anymore?
Is this something I could attempt myself... looks almost like I'd have to move the exhaust to drop the tranny...
2000 Excursion, Limited, 4X4, 6.8L, V10. My right front inner differential seal is leaking. I have researched and found out that I have to remove the pumpkin gear assembly from the front differential to get at the seal.
Do I need any special tools to get the seals seated back into the differential? Any instructions or a list of parts needed?
I went to fordparts.com and entered my vin number but it makes no reference to the parts of the front differential only the rear.
Every time it rains I get a wet spot in the far left corner by the spare tire. Am I looking at a new seal or is this a trait with a different fix.
View 14 RepliesNoticed this leak today a few days after parking the Ex (V10) -- not a daily driver. Crawled under the Ex and checked under the hood but I could not find an obvious sign of where the leak is coming from.
I checked the coolant plastic reservoir and its on MIN -- I believe that where it should be when the engine is cold. I noticed that these trucks do not have a cap directly on the radiator. That plastic reservoir, is that where I would top off the coolant?
Is there a spot on these engines where it would commonly leak? Should I try to put some dye on the coolant and/or possibly pressure test it?
I have a 2004 Excursion 4x4 with only 85k. miles on it. My problem is that there is a water leak on the drivers side, either around the windshield or door weather strip. I say weather strip, because when I opened the door this morning, after a very heavy rain last night, there was some moisture on the inside of the door where the seal should have stopped it. My wife saw water on the emergency break pedal, and has felt a couple drops on her foot.
This is my second EX with the same problem, except the first one, a 2000 model, was much worse. It was leaking down on the GEM and fuse box. Replacing the windshield did not even slow the leak down. After several attempts to fix the problem with no luck, I decided to sell. I don't want to sell this one, but if I can't fix the leak before the electrical problems start, I won't have a choice.
My valley is dry the galley plugs are dry but after crawling around with a flashlight and mirror I found oil weeping out of the silver plug in the picture to the left of the red arrow. What that is called? How to repair and the cause of the leak, due to CCV mod?
