Found a puddle under the X last weekend. I thought it was the pan gasket when I got under her but much to my dismay, it was not. Fluid was actually seeping from between the extension unit and the tranny. Would this just be the gasket between the two?

View 10 RepliesNoticed Tranny Fluid under the Ex last week and after further inspection, it is definitely the lines rusted, by the end of the week it was leaking pretty good with the motor running. Picked up the lines from Ford and bought a 5 gal pail of MerconV from NAPA. Going to replace the tranny fluid after I replace the lines. 109k on the truck and never serviced the trans. Never had an issue with this truck, shifts nice and tight. Found Mark W's Fluid Changing procedure which looks pretty simple.
View 4 RepliesWe have a 2004 Passat 1.8 t with about 180,000 miles on it. We changed the battery and now it seems to belch out tranny fluid once it comes to a stop. I thought I read where some sensors need to be reset after a battery is changed. Would a battery change cause a leak of this type?
View 1 RepliesI replaced my hydroboost unit about 10,000 miles ago. Today I noticed it was wet under the unit. Only this time, it's not red PS fluid, rather, it is brake fluid. So, I assume the master cylinder is leaking and winding up under the hydroboost unit via gravity. Or at least that's my theory.
Any way Rockauto lists 2 motorcraft master cylinders.
One is BRMC-26 for Hydroboost
The other is BRMC-27 for speed control.
I have obviously Hydroboost, but also have speed control.
I took my gs350 for a drain and fill today. Before They did anything, The service advisor called and told me the pan gasket is leaking along with a seal? I am aware of the gasket on the pan but wasn't able to get any info on the seal. Is it a seal that is replaced regardless of leak or not if they drop the pan?
Got quoted 700+tax for pan drop, replace gasket and said seal with fill of fluid.
Noise started a day earlier, drove slow and listened to the noise while turning sharp in both directions. Was noisy at full turns and mostly quiet going straight. At higher speeds a slight wine could be heard.
It was a clunking, grinding noise with a little steering bind and pulling. I assumed it was cv joints but but after jacking up the front end to inspect, I have tranny fluid leaking from between transfer case and tranny.
Last thing I expected was tranny, It shifts fine and just started leaking, NOW what am I facing.
I just recently had to replace the extension housing on my truck. Well after doing so I went to start it up and top off the tranny fluid and it started to leak out on the left rear side of the transmission near the extension housing. Ive looked and looked and found that the fluid is coming from the top right in front of the extension housing but when i clean it off there seams to be no holes or cracks. It isn't the housing seal, cause it pools in front of that. What could be the issue? My truck is a 01 F250 4X4 5.4L.

Automatic Transmission My son was trying to back up my empty 12' flat bed trailer up a hill (approximately a 25 degree hill). Why'll I was at work, my wife said he was having alot of trouble, and it was taking him awhile. She said she saw transmission fluid on the ground and stopped him immediately,and he turned off the engine. There is a trail of fluid on the driveway about 100' long and a 1/2" wide. This transmission has allways been solid, and only leaked a few drops on the driveway in almost 300,000 miles. what probably happened, and what I will need to do to fix it. I have allways worked on all my vehicles. But I know better than to get very deep into a transmission.
This line is rusted out on my V10 and leaking fluid.
How hard/expensive is this to fix?
I'm in the middle of doing my exhaust manifolds right now, so I'm hoping it's a simple bolt-on fix.
Did ball joints this weekend and now have little axle fluid leaking out passenger side. was going to change axle fluid when i saw this so continued and when pulled the fill plug i would say 8oz or more came draining out. Did I mess up the seal inside the tube?
View 5 RepliesIts been awhile since I have been on. Everything has been running great for me until I found my passenger side front axle leaking fluid. I'm sure something has been posted on here but I have limited access to internet right now and need to know what I am getting into to change the seals. From what I have found there is an inner seal in the pumpkin and then an outer seal and dust cover. Are both of these easy to change? Are there any special tools needed? Do I need to remove the gears in the pumpkin? If so, is this difficult and any special tools required for this?
Mine is a 2001 V10-6.8, 4x4 no mods at this point.
2000 Excursion 7.3 unk transmission
Quick run down on the situation. It has been terribly hot here bumping 105 degrees. I was told by a man he could see fluid leaking and it was trans fluid. I checked it and filled it up and got it to the shop.
Next day they said it was not leaking and that it probably overheated. They recommended an after market trans cooler. They put it in and off I went. 60 miles later I got fluid all over the rear of the truck. I filled it up again and got it home. Shop says I need a new trans.
Have noticed some pink fluid seeping around top of radiator, which has created a bit of a mess in the engine bay. Is this indicative of a radiator leak? I don't see any visible cracks, however not much of the radiator is viewable. If replacement is necessary, what OEM alternates are recommended? car is running fine and not overheating. It's an '02 sc430 with 171K miles.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2000 2wd with the 5.4 in it. I tow a travel trailer and loaded is 6500lbs. Today leaving the campground I had to climb an extremely steep hill as soon as you left the campground. No time to build speed. The old Ex made it, but I was definitely worried. The truck ran fine the rest of the 2 hours home. I went to back my camper into its spot to store, and smoke started coming out from under the hood. When I crawled under it, tranny fluid was leaking on the ground. A pretty steady drip. I let it cool down, added fluid and drove around. Didn't leak anymore. Did the tranny just get hot and had to burp? The drip was coming from where the tranny connects to the motor.

View 2 RepliesA little background info...up until about 6 months ago my 01 Ex V10 was a grocery getter for the wife; only got a few thousand miles a year for the most part. Since we moved from Washington state to Texas it has turned into my daily driver (after a 2500 mile drive towing 8k trailer).
A couple of weeks ago we were running errands and after we got home there was smoke coming from under the hood, but I couldn't pin point it. I let it be because I figure it would let me know when something was really wrong. A few days later it did it again but this time I found the problem; transmission fluid was leaking out of the bell housing onto the y-pipe. I did my research and come to find out it is most likely the front pump seal that got soft from overheating. So my buddy and I drop the transmission and replace the seal. Put it all back together and everything seems great.
Another week goes by and we have driven the Ex fairly extensively around town and even took a couple short day trips and everything is great. Then as we are turning onto an on ramp to get on the highway I give it gas to speed up and all of a sudden the RPMs climb like it dropped into neutral. I had enough momentum that I got over onto the shoulder and started to check thing under the hood. Looked like I was low on trans fluid; ok so I added a quart. Put it in "D" and still nothing. Then I try "1", "2", "R" and they all work fine.
So I had a stuck caliper on the driver rear side. I pushed the piston back and checked everything to make sure all was in working order. After some though and reading about the calipers getting stuck which old brake lines, I decided to upgrade the line with the Russell stainless steal lines.
I got all the lines put in but I seem to have fluid leaking on the passenger side fitting which I can't seem to get to stop. I put the old line back in but it is still leaking. I am not sure what I need to do or check to get it to stop. It seems to be leaking from the thread area. I checked the fittings and they don't look cross threaded so I don't understand why it may be happening.
This is on my 99 v10 Superduty. What I'm hearing sounds like high pressure fluid passing through a restriction. I only hear it when in drive or reverse while sitting still. The noise goes away once I get moving a couple of miles per hour. It just started making this noise within the last week.
I change the fluid every other oil change (about 6000mi on the last change) and am using M1 Synth in it. I only drive 10min between work and home so it probably barely gets warm. I don't know yet if it there hot. I'll have take it up the hill and back to see if it is temperature related.
Other then the noise it still drives and shifts fine. But it is pretty loud sitting at the drive through window. I'm going to drain it and change the filter this weekend and see how the fluid looks. Any thing else I should look at or other possibilities? I crawled under it last night and I think the noise is coming from the TC.
I just came home from work and wanted to show a VW that a 3.2ton SUV could be fast with the right engine.
Ok....I won..........but it was the first time that I recognized a kind of slippage under WOT....and I was in 4WD.
That slippery feeling don't come from the wheels. What to do now besides not to race anymore until repair?
