Started having trouble with my Excursion 6.0 Diesel stalling after being in tow/hauling a 22' boat. That issue has gone away buy now I start it and run for 20 minutes, turn it off and try to start it again and all it does is turn over. If I let is sit for about 8hrs it will start again. What is going on?
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2000 VW Lupo 1.4 automatic (essentially a small version of a VW Polo, sold in Europe). It's got 65000miles on it. The car starts up just fine the first time, summer or winter. If you shut off the motor after a short time, 5 or 10 minutes, restarting it can be a problem. If this happens a third time, starting will be even more difficult. If you drive for awhile restarting is no problem, the pattern starts over again. I've replaced the battery, plugs, gas filter, had the distributor looked at. Restarting became marginally better.

View 3 RepliesMy 2005 STX 4.6 fuel pump crashed a couple of months ago. A couple of days after having it replaced I started having hard/rough starting problems accompanied by a 0300 and 0301 code. I reset the codes several times and they only come back during the 3rd or 4th hard start, never while driving. The hard starts occur after the engine is shut off for more than a few minutes after driving. I have replaced the plugs, #1 COP, remaining COP boots, Cam Pos Sensor, Fuel pump drive module and had and FI. Also had the fuel pump replaced again on warranty thinking maybe a bad check valve. Again...it worked perfectly for a day and now I'm back to square one. Haven't gotten any codes YET but its only been a day. Bad injector? EGR?

When I purchased my 2005 Limited 6.0l I just assumed it had the factory gears in it which are 3.73s but I noticed the other day that my speedo is pretty much bang on with the 35" tires. So, that got me to thinking maybe they've been replaced already. It runs right around 2000rpm at 70mph.
View 14 RepliesI've got a 2005 Volvo V50. High Mileage (230000). Timing belt replaced at 200k. Runs really nice, until this evening. Inserted the key and turned over but instead of starting it made whirring robot noises and read "brake failure message" and "immobilizar" after turning key to off position. It's really cold out. 0 degrees. What's the next move?
View 2 RepliesI have an '05 Honda Pilot that is experiencing the following symptoms:
1 - sound of liquid moving (coming from under the hood) when the vehicle is idle or in motion.
2 - temperature gauge on dash reading high when vehicle has been in idle for a while.
3 - sound of fans running (I think) under the hood after the vehicle has been turned off.
I will take it in to a mechanic....
My 2000 F 250 Super Duty 7.3L Diesel chimes 5 times, 5 times in a row when the engine is turned on and then every 30 minutes thereafter. What is causing this? It sounds like the seat belt alarm but they are all connected. Ehat is causing the continual chiming?
View 2 RepliesI drive a 1996 F-150, 188,000+ miles. Sometimes when you turn the key in the ignition, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. But if you wait about 2 minutes, the truck starts O.K. This has occurred a couple of times when I was starting out and killed the motor by not giving it enough gas. But it's also occurred when the truck has been sitting for a number of hours or even overnight. It never fails to start after about a 2 minute wait. What's going on here? I've had the truck in the garage, but they couldn't replicate the problem and didn't do anything.
View 2 RepliesI have had my excursion for almost 4 years, I love this truck. but lately we have been having issues that we haven't been able to figure out. First it has about 390K miles on it.
I ALWAYS have to plug it in. it could be 90 degrees out and I still have to plug it in. if it Is plugged in normally it will start fine. but then when I go to drive it, it wont have any power until I get like 2 miles down the road. you can push the pedal all the way down and it will go like 10mph. but once it warms up its fine. if I forget to plug it in, I will have to plug it in for about 2 hours and then it will start hard and run really rough for about 10 min. And it will blow greyish smoke out the exhaust.
But now I'm having the issue of keeping it running. it will start and run for 5-15 min and then quit and I have to wait anywhere from 10min - 1 hour to start it again.
I posted about the f 350 cam lob and lifter wearing on the ford 460 ci engine, what all the causes might be. we used the cam lube but got a ticking within the first 10 min of running.
View 1 RepliesI drive a 2007 Ford Focus and when the fuel level gets to half a tank the car tries to die, and quite often does, when making a left turn. About 1% of the time it will do it when making a right hand turn. It will also sputter and die when running it on idle for a few min. It first started doign this at 1/4 tank but has gotten to where it will do it at 1/2 now.
View 8 RepliesI had a dead battery on my '97 power stroke Ford F250. I realize now that when I was jumping it (successfully) I clipped the (black) ground cable to the alternator itself! Doy. The alternator is definitely dead now as I lose power after a few minutes of running the engine. My question is: did I blow a simple fuse or do I need to replace the whole alternator? How likely is it that I did further damage? I ask because I'm contemplating replacing the alternator myself. But maybe it would be wiser to get a tow to the mechanic.
View 4 Replies1992 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd 4.0L (California vehicle) runs good for about 15 minutes, then suddenly starts 'chugging,' loses power, and check engine light comes on. After sitting overnight, it will again run good for about 15 minutes, then repeats the problem.
This problem began AFTER smog check test failed (it ran smoothly all the time before) and after, as was recommended to me, I replaced the 02 sensor. (Failure of smog check, it turns out, was more likely because, unknown, a 10" piece of exhaust pipe was missing, so Catalytic Converter was not connected to the tailpipe).
I had a mechanic scope the Explorer but he could not determine a specific failure from the codes, although he suggested possibly it's the missing 'Octane Adjust Shorting Bar,' or maybe the 'crank position sensor' is bad, but he could not give a diagnosis.
Back in may, the ac started having a horrible smell for the first few minutes while on. It smells like crayons gone bad. I heard about this before but either i suck at researching ( probably this) or i am the only one with this problem (I am sure I am not).
Well, today on my way back from work my i tried to tun on my ac and nothing.. the fan on the radiator works, but the blower doesn't. Researching again, i found something about the resistors on the blower going bad. However, most of the people posting about it didnt have climatronic like we do. Is it the same for us?

I have a 2005 nissan maxima that won't start. I have a new starter and battery. When I turn the key everything in the car comes on except for the car (it also makes no sound when you turn the key). I checked to see if it was the ignition switch by bridging the connection on the starter with a screw driving. The starter comes on but the car wont start. It tried starting it in neutral (still doesn't work). It's not the security because the light turns off when you try to start it.
View 19 RepliesNew prob for my 2006 Sonata 3.3 L. After I drive it for 5 to 30 minutes, the ESC Off light comes on. Prior to it coming on the ESC off button appears to work fine, and if I peel out from a stop the ESC system seems to work fine. The only thing I have done recently was change the battery and the drivers low beam headlight. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery again, but same prob. Is it time to just take it into the shop? BTW, I already had the recalled brake/stop light switch replaced over 6 months ago.
View 13 Replies2006 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. This car is driving me crazy. Last summer, we drove it from Denver to San Diego. The trip was perfect but within minutes after we arrived the car would not restart. It has been towed to mechanics 5 times and had the starter replaced twice, the battery, pndlr switch each replaced and of course they always find various other things that are needed that don't have anything to do with starting the car. It will work for awhile and then not start again. The last 2 times, we sent it to the mechanic, they jumped it and could not duplicate the situation after several days trying and sent it home. We thought it might be the radio that was installed a few years ago so we removed it, but now the car won't start again.

On cold start warm start doesn't make a difference truck runs perfectly until it's been idling for a few min then starts a looping idle tach drops down to around 4-500 rpm motor sounds almost like a misfire I can press on the gas and it sputters up until it's running over 1200 rpm then smooths out and runs perfectly until it's allowed to idle for a few min then just repeats no codes are present no check engine light at all
I changed out plugs and coil packs at 100000 miles roughly year and a half ago (motorcraft parts) problem started just recently I have double checked all connections are good at plugs and at fuel injectors from what I've read up on from this forum it sounds like I could be experiencing an IAC issue or possibly an EGR issue I have checked all the rubber hoses associated with both systems and all are in good shape hold vacuum as they should are there any tests that I could perform on the IAC or the EGR to determine if it's one of those I'm trying to avoid throwing parts at it if possible, or is there anything else that I should be checking oh also cleaned the mass air flow a few days ago no changes
As I'm driving along, I get the battery light coming for a few minutes then going out. Is this a sign my alternator is on the fritz?
