I have a 2003 excursion 4X4 on factory 16" wheels. I want to keep my same wheels. Want to install 7" lift. How big of tire can I go? I was looking at the 345/75R16 and 365/75R16 BFG Mud Terrains. Not many manufacturers are making big tires for 16s. I want to go as big as I can without cutting or spacers. Will NOT put any type of Super Swamper. This truck will never see mud.

hello, so yesterday at the local gas station I was talking to a guy who has a new, nice looking GMC 1 ton 4x4 nondually truck. we started talking about milage and he told me that going up 2 sizes and adjusting it in the onboard computer he was now getting 22mpg.
so I know this isnt an apples to apples kind of thing, and I do know that for example on my F250 it is geared to haul... but has anyone got real data on getting back down to a 3.55 gear adjusting tire size? has it made a difference ? especially if it is just a DD and not a work hauler. yes we all know if you go too far milage gets worse, but I always found for a non-work truck that the 3.2-3.5 rear gear ratio or equivalant eith by changing gears or tire size was a sweet spot for MPG.
right now at 13K I get about 17-17.5 mpg unless I am driving on the interstate and then I get a tad more.

I have a 2003 Excursion 4x4 Diesel 6.0. I want to do a lift of 2 inches with 18 inch wheels and 33 inch rubber. What is the best and most affordable way to get that done? The lift kits are at least a grand and that seems crazy for a 2 inch lift. I want to continue to park the scurge in the garage. So 4 inch is probably pushing it for garage access. My garage is 81.5 inches tall.

View 3 RepliesI bought a used 2001 Excursion. Neither of the middle row 60/40 bench seats will lift up.
The 60% (wider) bench seat lifted fine a week ago. Then I installed two car seats above them, drove it for a week, and when I took them out and tried to lift that bench seat, it seems stuck. I pull up on the lever, but the seat won't lift.
The previous owner re-upholstered the seats before I bought it, and there is no opening in the new upholstery for it even to latch into the base. So I'm very confused how it could be locked.
Similar story for the other 40% (smaller) seat. We actually just lifted this seat up and cut out holes in the new upholstery so that it could lock into the base. And when we finally pushed it down and heard it lock, after that we could not get it to lift. We pull the latch up and hear it unlock, and we can feel underneath that it is unlocked. Yet the seat will not lift.
I'm pulling with all my strength, but the seats are stuck.
Leaking from the top, right center. I taped over the brake light, still leaking. Not the gasket, any water sources others have found? I guess it wasn't a problem its first 8 years of life in the Arizona desert, but I bought it and brought to the wet northwest!

I cannot find any info on the hellwig if it works with lifted excursions or if I need extended links, which I also cannot find for an 8" lift
I found front sway bar end links for 8" lift but the rear is really frustrating me
I know 4" is still good, as that is what my 05 had. Just curious about my 00. Locally a guy is selling a pair of fab tech 5.5" front leaf springs. Just curious if I went that high if the stock drivelines would survive? We do not have a driveline shop on the island, so I would like to go as high as I can, without modding the drivelines. If 4" is all, that's fine. Just curious!

View 14 RepliesSo this may be a really dumb question, but here goes. I have a new to me 2001 v10 gas 4x4 ex. It has obviously been lifted in the past. The springs seem totally shot as the back end is quite a bit lower than the front and drops dramatically while towing. I am adding a helwig and have a wd hitch but have not set it up yet. So my question is can i do the spring swap? It would seem that i would need to address whatever changes are made from the stock ride but im not sure. I like the current lift and would be fine keeping it and adding the lift from the new springs.
View 14 RepliesMy mother-in-law has a 2003 Escape with a V-6. For the last week the rear lift gate and window will not open. Tried the door key and the driver's side door unlocked. Turned the key again within three seconds (according to the operator's manual). The two lights flashed, the remaining doors opened except for the rear gate. I pressed my ear to the gate and it sounds like it is trying to release the locking mechanism. Any recommendations?

View 3 RepliesI am installing a fuel pressure gauge into my 02 7.3 I went to the thread the sensor into the plug hole on the fuel filter housing and it wasn't threaded, turns out the sensor thread is slightly smaller and a different thread ... The directions say to install it into the filter housing or the lift pump ... So I'm assuming I have to go the lift pump direction of installing it but where the lift pump is or how to install the sensor into it while not throwing a code or causin problems ... A step by step and even pictures.

View 14 RepliesI have 265/75 R16 tires and 11 inches between the rear tires and the top of the inner wheel well and 9 inches between the front tires and top of the inner wheel well. I can't tell if the springs are stock or not. Does this distance seem like the stock distance?

I have a shake at 60-78 mph. Have had the tires balanced three times, last balance is beter. I'm thinking of switching the wheels from my 05 F250 to the 03 Excursion to verify a tire problem. Will the factory F250 17" wheels fit for the test? Both are 4x4 vehicles. The truck rides smooth.
View 5 RepliesI HAVE A 2001 10 CYL EXCURSION with Pirelli Scorpion 265/75R 16 AT tires Istill can't get a good answer on correct tire Pressures-door plate says 38/45 tire wall says 80psi max. I've seen guys post 55/65 for non towing then maybe 60/70 for towing. Currently my steering kinda sloppy-inflations were messed up 55-52 front and 50-47 rear- also manual hubs somehow were in lock pos.Just had ball joints done but mechanic said didn't need alignment.
