Ford Excursion :: 2003 - Oil Filler Pipe Cracked?
Mar 9, 2016
2003 Limited 6.8L v10 4WD. My oil filler pipe is cracked. Been cracked for quite a few years. Only recently did the smog shop fail the visual inspection because of it. Need to have it replaced. Auto store doesn't carry it, dealer-only item. Went to dealer and it is attached to the valve cover and sold as one piece. Any other options?

Just drove home a 2000 Limited from a used car dealer in NH to MA. Half way home, I stopped to gas up and noticed I was losing a small amount of fuel while pumping. It appears to be leaking from the filler pipe just before the tank, but there was too much splatter to tell for sure. No leak when not pumping, but the tank was only half full.
The dealer "guarantees" that the truck will pass MA state inspection. I'm sure a rusted out filler hose would result in a failure. The "guarantee" really means that he will buy the truck back should it fail, which is not really doing me any good b/c I'll have to start looking for a new truck all over again.
I'm unable to find a part # or pic of a filler neck for the Excursion. Is it the same as other Super Duty necks? Is this thing welded to the tank? That sounds like an involved, difficult fix.

Changing the oil in my wife's 03 Camry 2AZ-FE, I noticed a small scratch-like crack in the oil baffle that's attached to the under side of the valve cover. According to the interwebs, this is a known issue and in a worst case a chunk of baffle can break off and jam the timing chain. How concerned should I be? I'm thinking I should just monitor it for the time being and get more alarmed if the crack gets bigger or the baffle starts looking like it could separate.

I was changing the engine coolant on my 2005 Prius today. When I went to fill up the tanks, I noticed a small pool of coolant right under the filler pipe. I thought I might have overfilled something, but when I jiggled the filler pipe, I heard an air leak. It looks like there is a bad seal between the filler pipe and the radiator. I also noticed that my coolant recovery tank was empty. I never noticed this before so I don't know if this issue is related.

I have my late husbands 2003 6 liter Turbo diesel Excursion; what an excellent workhouse for a widow interested in building DIY things out of used pallet wood!
I am not very savvy AT ALL about vehicles and engines (you may even laugh at my question). I can't tell WHICH IS THE ENTRY PIPE FOR ADDING OIL? It started smoking on my way home, and a friend who came to wait for the tow truck with me added 2 qts to what turned out to be the container for radiator overflow, I am told! My truck is home and I KNOW I must put oil in, but the only manual I can find is NOT for the turbo diesel and the illustrations n photos look nothing like my engine!

I was just in the middle of doing the V Code leaf spring swap and noticed a broke part where the u-bolts sit and what looks to be attached to the trac bar. The piece is broken in half and I am not sure how this happened or when. The piece is welded to the axle.

So the flexpipe on my exhaust is cracked and completely broken, so my passat sounds like a Mack truck. I've been looking into getting it fixed and I've been told i need to buy an entire new down pipe. Should i attempt to just get it fixed or buy a new down pipe.

After my accident this summer with the Ex and TT, I have a fuel leak. It appears to be coming from the hoses between the filler neck and tank.
The part # from Ford for the neck and hoses is YC3Z-9034-AA. This part is no longer available! Even NAPA the go to place and pay thru the nose for shows it as obsolete from their vendor.
I am seeing RED at this since I had zero leaks until the body shop dropped the tank to replace the hitch. The BS and INS co told me prove it was not a dry rotted house and they would pay for it. What to do for the hoses?

The lens in my far rear dome light has a small crack in it. I was trying to find a new one, but so far, no luck. I've found a few used ones on Ebay for the Expedition, but none so far for the Excursion. Did the Expedition (99-02) have the same housing for the rear dome light as the Excursion? It looks the same, but I don't know if the dimensions are the same.

The fuel filler neck on my truck is very rusted. I'm very concerned because if it gets a hole in it I think I wouldn't be able to put gas in the tank. It's completely exposed to anything that the tire throws at it. Is there any way to protect it?

The tail pipe broke right in front of the muffler.
Y pipe Mod is installed. Headers are not in my immediate future as much as I would like to.
Thinking about having it straight piped, concerned about noise.

I replaced my water pump on my 2000 Excursion 7.3 about six months ago because it was leaking from the little hole underneath. Everything was fine until today I noticed a big stain on my driveway under the front of the truck. I took a look and the new pump is leaking. It seems to be coming from the the back of the water pump where it sits flush against the engine.
Could the gasket have deteriorated or cracked? I bough it from a local parts store called part source, so it should be under warranty. Any thoughts?

It seems that the install of my Doug Thorley headers didn't go as well as I thought. Turns out the passenger side header melted the bracket holding the heater lines and then punctured one of the lines when it rubbed against the header. Right now I'm not sure what to do. I noticed the melted bracket and pulled the fender well, but that's when I noticed the leak. I guess some of the melted plastic was keeping it from leaking everywhere until I removed it. I live in AZ so the rear heater isn't really necessary so if a stop gap measure is to bypass it then I'm game but I can't find any info on how to do it. If the only real solution is to get the entire line replaced then I'm a bit hosed I guess. 2001 V-10 4x4 BTW.

Got a 2 wheel drive 2000 Excursion with approx. 215K miles with the 7.3L.
Slight shake in motor + you can literally floor the pedal and you'll move a little faster than a snail.
Does this sound like bad injectors? Also - tried to start it today and it was just cranking forever...Couldn't get it to start..I did notice while I was in drivers seat looking out the window...some white smoke coming from tail pipe while it was cranking...

A little background info...up until about 6 months ago my 01 Ex V10 was a grocery getter for the wife; only got a few thousand miles a year for the most part. Since we moved from Washington state to Texas it has turned into my daily driver (after a 2500 mile drive towing 8k trailer).
A couple of weeks ago we were running errands and after we got home there was smoke coming from under the hood, but I couldn't pin point it. I let it be because I figure it would let me know when something was really wrong. A few days later it did it again but this time I found the problem; transmission fluid was leaking out of the bell housing onto the y-pipe. I did my research and come to find out it is most likely the front pump seal that got soft from overheating. So my buddy and I drop the transmission and replace the seal. Put it all back together and everything seems great.
Another week goes by and we have driven the Ex fairly extensively around town and even took a couple short day trips and everything is great. Then as we are turning onto an on ramp to get on the highway I give it gas to speed up and all of a sudden the RPMs climb like it dropped into neutral. I had enough momentum that I got over onto the shoulder and started to check thing under the hood. Looked like I was low on trans fluid; ok so I added a quart. Put it in "D" and still nothing. Then I try "1", "2", "R" and they all work fine.

My trim piece under the rear window is cracked. What kind of a job is it to replace? I can buy the replacement part from my local dealer and have it painted at a body shop. Is it glued or screwed or both? Iit's a 2003 Mountaineer.

I need a film crew to document this stuff, but here's what I've got. This engine had a cracked piston. It is currently torn down and ready to go to the machine shop. I ordered a powder coating set up, so everything that fits in the oven will get powder!
This engine will get cut/coated pistons, cryoed forged rods, 250/100's, waste gated T4/S369, head studs, 910 valve springs, smith bros pushrods, etc. We'll also be using a Southbend dual disc clutch in front of the freshly rebuilt ZF6.
Here's some of the shiny stuff.
I think I'll give up a little top end to spool faster. Especially since this is a 6spd build.

2003 F150 5.4 4x4 supercrew ,76k miles
Recently the passenger side exhaust manifold cracked on my truck. I bought this truck about two years ago with 58k on it and currently have 76k miles. I remember getting the carfax report and being relieved to see that it had exhaust manifold replaced in July of 2014 at 49K miles along with a new EGR tube. I called the shop that worked on the truck to see if he could confirm that both manifolds were replaced since carfax only said manifold & egr tube. The shop manager confirmed that both manifolds were replaced and he told me that they were most likely manifolds from napa according to the part number.
Now, my question is, what's the best brand to replace the manifolds with? Should I just go with OEM and spend the extra $130 per side? I know the manifolds are a common problem with these trucks but only lasting three years and 27K miles just seems ridiculous to me.
I'm hoping that when I get around to actually doing this that they wont be to bad because of how recently they were replaced. For now I just cleaned the area with a wire wheel and used the inferno metal repair. Seems to have done the job but I don't expect it to last long, just another month or two until I move to a place where I can actually work on my vehicles.

Just did a tear out and rebuild, installed motor, filled with water. Water is leaking out of the back of the engine somewhere. Leaking as if it were coming out of a 1/4" diameter hole. 1997 V4.6L F150. I guess I have to pull it no matter what. Cracked block? Freeze plugs were all new and installed by machine shop. Initial reason for pulling was water in cylinders and I assumed blow head gasket.
