Ford Excursion :: 2003 - Cruise Will Not Turn On?
Aug 17, 2016
2003 Excursion, 6.0 diesel
replaced disengagement switch on master cylinder (was bad)
replaced cruise control switch on steering wheel (had broken button)
cruise will not turn on, and will not enter self-test mode
all fuses good. Illumination to steering wheel buttons is working. cruise buttons are registering with a scan tool, but still cruise will not turn on or enter self test mode
Cruise went down about the same time I started using the power adjustable pedals, not sure if that is relevant.

Well, on our way home during my leave, the wife made the comment about halfway home that the blinkers had quit working. I assumed it was probably a fuse or relay, so we came on home. I have been looking at it for a few days now (too hot to spend too much time out crawling around under the dash ) and I am still having some trouble. My brake lights, and hazards are not working, and neither is the cruise, which was working fine while I drove before the blinkers went out.
I have no power at all to the flasher relay. I replaced the brake light switch because it was definitely worn and looked a little burned inside when I pulled it out and inspected, but still nothing. Have not found any fuses blown. Brake pressure switch fused link harness seems good with my test light. Wipers, brights, everything else on the turn signal switch works fine. Can't even get the cruise to go into diagnostic mode, it only blinks once when I try.

I have a issue with my cruise control not working. The Ford dealer in my home town has had my truck for 3 days now and cannot figure out what the problem is. I finally went by the dealer and wanted to know what the deal is and how can this take so long to figure out when they have to of seen issue like this in the past. The tech that is working on my truck said he has traced wires, etc and think it has something to do with the after market JVC touch screen DVD/backup camera. My question is would this affect the cruise? I cannot find anything on the net that may point in that direction. The steering wheel controls work for the fan and temp controls but not the radio as its aftermarket. Radio adapter for the controls?

2003 X limited 2wd 6.0L ... My cruise control was working intermittently. Could it be the buttons on the steering wheel itself? there is a cluster that I see. Does it pop off to expose the connectors/switches? Can these go bad? Can I buy new switches for the steering wheel?

So the PO tells me he was flying down the highway and went to cancel his cruise control and it wouldn't turn off. He claims he made it to the shoulder of the highway and killed the ignition. When he restarted the truck is was turned off and it hasn't been used since. I tried to use it yesterday but couldn't get it to work?
So I do the search and find out that the deactivation switch is most likely the issue. I just picked up a new one today and was curious if it is just a R & R thing or if it needs to be bleed off or something? Is there a need to test it or just change it out? Sound like something that would cause these issues?

The cruise switch on my brake master cylinder is bad and causing the cruise to not work. I have it bypassed with a jumper wire and it works fine. is there any reason not to do this?

On my new to me '03 Excursion (I've owned it for 1.5 weeks now), I'm starting to get through the 1st level of issues (Wandering - fixed, Speedo/ABS issue - still working on that, changing the rear diff fluid this week, hopefully).
Now, I want to look into why the manually locking hubs won't turn. When I brought it up to the Previous Owner, who was about as mechanically inclined as my Golden Retreiver, he said "these are auto locking hubs. I never turned those things before".
They are frozen in the non-locked position, so I have to pray that I never need to actually manually lock them.
Any lucky experience at un-freezing stuck hubs? I've started the liberal application of PB Blaster process.

2003 X limited, 2wd 6.0L
Last week wife's right rear turn signal/brake light stopped working. The left one flashes normally. The right tail light works fine which is a different bulb. I tried changing bulbs (didn't work).....tried a new socket with new and old bulb (didn't work). Could it be a relay? Or not relay as they would be both out (left and right)?
I looked at my trailering wiring plug down by bumper and the white wire with green stripe looks split a little towards the end. Could it be a bad ground or short in that wire? Would the trailering wiring have anything to do with it? I was going to try to replace the relay if I could find it, what is the part number for it.

I have a 2003 Excursion 7.3 2WD Limited and all of the sudden experienced a number of issues all at once.
1. Turn signals stopped flashing (hazards still flash)
2. Lost Rear back up sensors
3. Lost overhead trip computer
4. Lost Rear A/C - switch does nothing
5. Front A/C now only blows through the defroster vent
I've checked all the fuses and cant find any bad ones.
I replaced the multi-switch flasher and turn signals still dont work - only hazards.

I turn my cruise on and then attempt to set it , nothing happens , doesn't set, no light , nothing. I hit coast and the light comes on but still doesn't hold. Should the light come on when cruise is turned on or set? I checked the master cylinder switch and it's not wet. I also did the self diagnostic test and got nothing but the initial first light blink.

Just got my first X(and Ford) a couple days ago. Anyways, the cruise control doesn't work. I checked the CC switch on the master and it tested fine and I installed new switches on the steering wheel.
When I do the self diagnostic test with the steering wheel switches they all test fine, and on the last button(set) it lights up, but no other flashes. What does that mean? In 1 thread it stats that 0 flashes is the speed control servo.

I had had intermittent issues with the cruise control not working in my excursion. most of the time it was fine though. after a recent 150 mile trip it stopped working half way through. i didnt worry about it too much..got back into town and checked under the hood. i found brake fluid running down the inner fender well! all over everything under the master cylinder. finally tracked it down to the cruise control switch on the master cylinder leaking. I pulled the plug apart and it was full of brake fluid.
Meanwhile the master cylinder was about half full, so i replaced it with the same switch out of a '96 parts explorer which is the same part luckily. also yes i have had the cruise control recall done. So if you have lost CC and you have a leak replace the switch! seems it can leak..and at a pretty good rate..alittle scary! glad i figured it out before my 800+ mile trip later this week/weekend.

2001 V10 115K miles
When I set the cruise dead on 70mph, the engine surges as if it's not getting fuel. I can set it at 68 and 72 and it runs great. Fuel filter was replaced 2K miles ago, and I just had new plugs put in, but it still does the surge thing. The RPM's don't bounce when it does it, but it the whole X lurches pretty good.
I'm not an engine guy so don't know what else to look for.

The cruise control in my recently purchased '01 Excursion isn't working. I've done a lot of searches and discovered there was a recall for a wiring harness: 2001 FORD EXCURSION Recalls
I called my local dealer and they stated there aren't any open recalls for this vehicle, so the previous owner must have taken care of it.
Is there any way I can verify that the warranty work was done? Can I visually inspect the harness? What else I can check to fix the cruise control? The lights on the steering wheel are illuminated.

The cruise control isn't activating on my 2000 X. The light will come on, on the dash but it never sets. Are there any common issues with this system and is there anything specific I can check?

Here is my current situation. No cruise, Replaced clock spring because the air bag light was also on. Still no cruise, checked fuses, they are fine, replaced bulb in gauge cluster. Still no light coming on at all, so I can't do the self test. Do you think my steering wheel switches are bad? Is there anything else I can check?

I have no horn, no cruise. I have lights on the steering wheel switches fine. I measured all the resistances for the steering wheel switches, and checked the horn switch as it goes into the clockspring, everything checked out fine.
Replaced the clockspring, no joy. Cracked open the old one, not a hint of any problem.Checked voltages and resistances at the cruise/servo module, fine. Took the servo module thingy and swapped it with my truck. Works just fine in my truck. My trucks doesn't work in the X. If I try to get the module to go into its self test mode by turning it on/off while holding the off switch, I can get it to blink on the dash, but the next switch presses bring no more blinks. I have continuity and a dry master cylinder switch. I have a working top center brake light, fuse tests ok.

My cruise control is out. I have checked the clock spring wiring and it is OK. Going to replace the brake switch today. Looked for the CC module but cannot locate. Where it is on the diesel X.

I have a cruise control issue. I tried the self diagnostics test, and the "cruise" light would not come on. (Also read that 2001 did not have a self test, so maybe that's why it didn't work? Also, when I first start it, all the other lights turn on except for cruise.) I checked the brake master cylinder and it has the double fuse wiring with 2 good fuses. Not quite sure what else to test. I just bought the X knowing it had this problem, but didn't know how much I would miss cruise control until driving without for a week.
