I am having trans problems with my 2002 V10 excursion. When in overdrive, the trans will rev up 300 rpm before downshifting into direct drive. It never varies in rpm always exactly 300 rpm. It's not slipping and it seems to be an electrical problem. It has 190k on it but has only been used as a family vehicle and has never towed. It has 50k on fluid change.
View 12 RepliesI have a 02 excursion 7.3 with 120000 miles. Went camping and towed my 28ft travel trailer weighs about 9000 lbs loaded . The trans got super hot dumped fluid in the past this time same thing but the front seal went had it replaced and the trans pump rebuilt on the way home it got super hot a few times what I need to do now. The trans guy said the trans had been rebuilt in the past don't know when cuz I bought the truck used 1.5 yr ago..... The truck has tow package coolers its set up for towing how the hell do I keep the temp down...

View 2 RepliesWindshield wipers, and washer were suddenly not working the other day, so I discovered a blown fuse. Put a new one in, and it immediately blew again. So there is definitely something grounding out, and I am suspecting the wiper motor itself because so far I have not been able to find any wires shorting out, but before I go to the trouble of pulling the motor out and testing it, or replacing it.
Truck is a 2002 F350CC 7.3 TD. Wipers were working fine the other day before I pressure washed it, which is why I really suspect the wiper motor itself.
Speedometer Going Crazy. 2002 Excursion, 5.4, Auto Transmission, 246800 miles. Put key in ignition and immediately noticed no odometer display. Put it in drive, Odometer began to register but SPEEDOMETER fluctuated wildly. Reading the posts as best as I could, I replaced the VSS sensor on Rear Diff, and no change in symptoms. I don't want to replace sensors just to replace them.
View 5 RepliesI was driving to work this morning on the highway and noticed my car was running at 3500 RPMs while I'm going 65... kind of odd, right? drop it into tiptronic, shows fourth, I shift up to 5th, and drop it back into "drive." A few seconds later I laid off the accelerator as the road started going downhill, and the car downshifted to 4th while I'm going 65... Back to tiptronic, shift up to 5th again, then shift back over to Drive.
I then accelerated a little as the road started going up hill, and the car downshifted AGAIN for no reason while I'm doing 70!!!! I wasn't laying on it at all either, very grandpa-like driving.... I've never driven an automatic car before, so maybe this is normal - but it doesn't seem normal. Once I got off the highway the car drove fine, but i dunno whats up. It's a v6 with 107k on it....
Go drive around with windows down and in D accelerate normally through 3rd gear then begin to stop and let the trans start downshifting itself. At the end of the 3/2 and the 2/1 downshifts, do you hear a distinct click. You shouldn't have to try to hard to hear it if you have it. drivers window down and radio off I hear it, every time.

View 2 RepliesHaving problem with 5R110W direct clutch. My nephew had his 2005 SD f 250 6.0 be told that 5R110W direct clutch problems. He was towing a trailer in tow mode and it started slipping in and out, so he took it to a dealer and they said that it was the direct clutch that was causing the problem and needed to be rebuilt, he only has 40000 miles on it but they said that it is out of warranty. What do you guys think that he should do?
View 12 RepliesI purchased my Focus brand new in late 2007. Within a year or so of owning it I noticed that sometimes, in drive, when I would get up to about 40mph the engine would rev for a second or so, before shifting into the next gear, sort of hesitating. I mentioned this on the next scheduled maintenance visit, the mechanic took a look and said he couldn't find a problem so it was probably just an anomaly. It has happened ever since about a few (less than ten) times a year. Every time I went in for one of those mandatory visits I would mention it and get the same answer.
Fast forward to last Thursday. Got it up to 40mph, and it started revving again. Did what I normally do, which is take my foot off the pedal for a few seconds, and try again. This time, it didn't ever shift up. I'm not a car person, but it was like it was caught in neutral. I had to slow down, get it to shift down, then keep my speed below 35. It refused to shift above 40. Checked transmission fluid, was a little low so I topped it off, but no change. Drove home in 2 with no problems. Wish I had an RPM meter so I could be a little more specific but my car conspicuously was not equipped with one...
So I drive a 79' f-150 and my truck when I take left turns, start on a steeper incline or give it too much gas my automatic transmission tries to jump from drive to neutral. This only happens initially; if I'm on the free way and at a higher rate of speed it doesn't do this but it seems like when I give it any more than a little gas it tries to jump into neutral (it has once) it doesn't or hasn't really done this on right turns I don't know if that makes sense or not.
Why it may be doing this and if so what I might be able to do about it? I do have a book for my truck and I have done some small things but I don't really know a whole lot.
I have a 98 XLT 4.0, auto trans with 109K miles and when it's really hot outside and it's been driven when I start back up and put it into drive it sometimes takes a while to go into gear. A friend says the transmission fluid doesn't look too good and it smells. Obviously I have a transmission problem but my question is would changing the fluid do any good at all? Since the tranny is bad what harm could it do? The fluid was never changed previously.

drive truck home, flush trans and cooler, road test all ok. this was 3 weeks ago.
This morning did it to here again, no drive and no reverse, she drove it home using manual low and 2nd.
I get in and when put into drive it feels like it tries but doesn't go all in, same with reverse. pulled it into low and vola I now have drive and reverse again
I'm thinking a we may have a bad or going bad shift solenoid. What I need to know is, is any of the solenoid valves on when in reverse are they the same as when in drive?
Quick question. I have a 1992 Ford E-350 Box Truck and during a recent highway trip the transmission slipped and I lost Drive (3rd). The van drives fine in 1st, 2nd, reverse, and overdrive. When it's in D, it wont move at all from a stop. I'm able to get it in to overdrive by starting in 2nd, accelerating to about 35mph, then shifting it in to D. If I accelerate enough after shifting to D, I can usually get it to shift in to OD. The fluid is full and clean.

While test driving after installing everything, I didn't get 7 ft down the road and the tires locked up and she came to a dead stop. Now I only have reverse but I can still feel the tranny engaging into drive but will not move.
View 2 RepliesLong delay bringing new travel trailer home last week. Shift cable not placed properly in retainer during assembly (there is NO way it popped out) and it was resting on exhaust manifold. Evidently towing camper made enough heat to burn through the shielding and truck trans would not move out of drive.
The good news is that I could climb under (getting too old for that stuff!) and put it into gear/park by hand. But of course I didn't know that for the first 4 hours.
I got myself a 1997 explorer Australian model when I got it (here's the problem) if you put it in drive it will not engage but if put in first will drive normal then shift into second all good now u have push O.D then shift into drive all good (unless u slow down to almost a stop) ? New problem is, it has gone and lost reverse, put it in reverse and it engages with a small clank (normal) but just slips with any revs. I have read posts here talking about upper and lower valve body gaskets and transgo shiftkit which I have ordered but do there maybe more parts needed? Cause it's going to cost me lot just to put transmission fluid back in.
View 4 Replies-My pickup was parked and hit in the rear axle in January. I had to have the whole axle replaced as well as the leaf spring to frame mounts.
-I finally received the pickup back and now when the trans is in Drive it will not up-shift until the rpms reach 2500 and it is a hard shift.
-Also the speedo does not work now.
-Check engine light also came on with code P0500- vehicle speed sensor.
-I replaced the VSS at the transfercase and the ABS sensor in the rear differential with no change.
I am in the middle of the 7.3 to 6.0 swap and wanted to confirm the in and out lines of each cooler. All the links to the websites that were writeups seem to be dead.
View 3 RepliesMy truck is starting to shift strange. As it warms up and I'm in drive, it will shift between drive and 2nd by itself. When I pull up to a stop lite, it's like it's stuck in drive and doesn't downshift. Ultimately it dies. I've checked my fluid and its fine. Any ideas? Oh and my engine light is on. Can a parts store find the code for the issue I'm having?
