The ruck is a 2002 Ex limited v10 4x4. The cruise worked fine till my wife drove the truck! the green cruise light blinked a few times, now, there is nothing.I'm no good at electrical issues.

Nothing with the self test also. How can I troubleshoot the switch in the steering wheel? I could also have a bulb out in the cluster, but either way- no cruise function.

View 7 RepliesI was recently on a road trip, using my cruise control extensively (like usual) when it just quit working. I tried to reset to a lower speed, but it would rev itself back up to the original speed. I turned off the cruise control, drove a mile or so and turned it back on. The cruise dash light came on, but the right control buttons no longer worked. No check engine light. It's never worked since.
My local tire shop checked codes and found the tcm not communicating with the mod (cruise module?). I'm looking to take it to the dealer, but I'd like to be better informed with what I may be dealing with before I get there.
In 1970 I bought one of the first Chevrolet Blazers. I drove it until two years ago when it finally was just too worn out to drive, at close to 300K miles. I sold it to someone who is in the process of restoring it for show. I knew that I wanted an other 2 door Blazer, but they quit making them in 1995. After a long search I purchased an original 86K miles on a 2 door 1996 GMC Yukon SLE. I love this car.However, I have just experienced my first mechanical failure. I am a fairly good shade tree mechanic. At 70 years old I have worked on every vehicle I have ever owned. So I am trying to figure out what has gone wrong with the cruise control. On a return trip from our lake house in Kansas (yes, there are lakes in Kansas) to my home in Nebraska, as I was going up and down the rolling prairie hills, the cruise control started having trouble going up the inclines. Then it quit working altogether. I checked the fuses and they are ok. My next thought is the control unit has quit working. I looked for a replacement unit and saw the price.... Is there something else that I could check before I replace the control unit? Is there any way that I can verify the control unit is at fault

View 2 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
I had had intermittent issues with the cruise control not working in my excursion. most of the time it was fine though. after a recent 150 mile trip it stopped working half way through. i didnt worry about it too much..got back into town and checked under the hood. i found brake fluid running down the inner fender well! all over everything under the master cylinder. finally tracked it down to the cruise control switch on the master cylinder leaking. I pulled the plug apart and it was full of brake fluid.
Meanwhile the master cylinder was about half full, so i replaced it with the same switch out of a '96 parts explorer which is the same part luckily. also yes i have had the cruise control recall done. So if you have lost CC and you have a leak replace the switch! seems it can leak..and at a pretty good rate..alittle scary! glad i figured it out before my 800+ mile trip later this week/weekend.
Looking for any pointers on fixing my cruise control Have looked around under hood but what it looks like. I've got the air working again,put Warn hubs on and have ordered the Hellwig rear sway bar,adjusted steering box i/2 turn....
View 14 RepliesThe cruise control in my recently purchased '01 Excursion isn't working. I've done a lot of searches and discovered there was a recall for a wiring harness: 2001 FORD EXCURSION Recalls
I called my local dealer and they stated there aren't any open recalls for this vehicle, so the previous owner must have taken care of it.
Is there any way I can verify that the warranty work was done? Can I visually inspect the harness? What else I can check to fix the cruise control? The lights on the steering wheel are illuminated.
I have a issue with my cruise control not working. The Ford dealer in my home town has had my truck for 3 days now and cannot figure out what the problem is. I finally went by the dealer and wanted to know what the deal is and how can this take so long to figure out when they have to of seen issue like this in the past. The tech that is working on my truck said he has traced wires,etc and think it has something to do with the after market JVC touch screen DVD/backup camera. My question is would this affect the cruise? I cannot find anything on the net that may point in that direction. The steering wheel controls work for the fan and temp controls but not the radio as its aftermarket. Radio adapter for the controls?
View 14 RepliesI have a cruise control issue. I tried the self diagnostics test, and the "cruise" light would not come on. (Also read that 2001 did not have a self test, so maybe that's why it didn't work? Also, when I first start it, all the other lights turn on except for cruise.) I checked the brake master cylinder and it has the double fuse wiring with 2 good fuses. Not quite sure what else to test. I just bought the X knowing it had this problem, but didn't know how much I would miss cruise control until driving without for a week.
View 12 Replies2002 Ford Excursion cruise control inoperable. Problem began when cruise would come on intermittently. I would push the on button then set, at which point the green cruise icon light would either come on and the cruise would set or she would flash and not set. Sometimes holding the switch down worked, other times not. Now no matter what I do the cruise will not engage.
I have had the recall done for the cruise control by the dealership.
I have checked the fuse on the recall module, the 2.5 is in good shape and not blown.
I also found this guide to a self test (copied below). I used the test, turning the key on with the off button depressed yields a green speed icon light. Letting go and pressing on yields a green flash as well. But when I move on to pressing resume I get no lights at all, same if I continue through the other switches, no more lights.
Here is the self test guide -
*cruise control self test
Enter self-test diagnostics by depressing the speed control OFF switch while turning the ignition key ON, making sure the engine does not start and is not running. The speed control indicator on the instrument panel will flash once to indicate that speed control module entered the diagnostic mode. Five additional flashes at this point indicate a defective speed control servo.
Release the OFF switch.
Press the remaining switches in this sequence: ON, RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL. If the ON switch is not depressed within five seconds after entering the diagnostics mode, the module times out and the procedure must be started over.
The speed control indicator lamp will flash as each switch is depressed. Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch. NOTE: There will be a slight delay when the last button is pressed and the lamp flashes.
A lamp flash with the last button (SET/ACCEL) indicates that the static test passed. If the lamp does not flash with the last button and there are no additional flashes of the lamp, the switch is defective. If the lamp does not flash with the last button, and additional flashes occur, follow the chart below for trouble codes:
2 flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).
3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.
4 flashes - vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective.
Immediately (.25 second delay) after the static test, the speed control servo does a dynamic test by automatically actuating the throttle lever from 8 mm (0.315 in) to 12 mm (0.472 in) of travel from the idle position. During the dynamic throttle pull, observe throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of the speed control cable and correct connection of speed control cable to throttle lever. Make sure the throttle returns to the idle position.
My fuel gauge is not working, nor is the cruise control, Had the truck looked at, was told the cruise was not working due to the fuel gauge not working?
Also when he hooked it up was told the dash gauge worked fine and the computer showed 60% which would have been about right based on mileage on the tank. My guess is that I need a sending unit?
One day it work and the next day it didn't. I checked the 15a fuse and it was good. What else should I be looking at?

View 2 RepliesMany of you said it was the "ClockSpring" that needed to be replaced. But I already did that. A brand new clockspring on it. The horn only blows when the engine is off and when the engine is on the horn and Curse Control don't work. I have a 2001 Excursion. So What could the problem be? It works with the keyless remote. But just when you driving down the street and some bone head cut you off you can't just it.
View 5 RepliesI just bought my 2002 Excursion about a month ago, and the cruise control doesn't work. When I'm driving, I press "ON", then "SET", the CC indicator light comes on, but when I take my foot off the gas, it doesn't maintain speed.
I've done the self test, and all the lights blink once. Just to be sure, I've replaced the CC switch on the master cylinder, and the Brake switch mounted above the brake pedal. Still no joy.
I have a 2002 excursion xlt 4x4 v10
The door locks quit working. The previous owner did the tin foil repair... I replaced the four door actuators today. Now all of the doors lock and unlock on the manual buttons. The fob doesn't work on any door.. when i try and use the door code pad, the locks go into a cycle.. the keep trying to operate by themselves. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I can't find the door lock relays. I have most of the dash out. Where these are?
I have a 2005 Excursion 6.0 ... .. A few months back the horn started sounding on its' own in the night, so I pulled the fuse... .. Then the Cruise Control stopped working. I have googled references to clockspring failure and these problems... ..
