My '01 Excursion gets a vibrating noise between 70-75mph. I've located it to the 2nd row drivers side seat. Only does it when it's in the upright position. I can hit the seat and have it make it briefly. But I can't locate the cause.

View 8 RepliesI replaced the front brake pads of my 2001 B5 Passat with the PBR metal master brake pads. Recently, I've been getting a vibrating noise from my front suspension when I drive. The noise is like something is about to fall apart. After checking it out at the local dealership, the service advisor told me that the brake pads didn't have any clamps to secure it thus causing the ticking noise. He said I need to get the OEM brake pads. I know that PBR is not the OEM brake pads, but I thought no brake pads come with a clamp like he is describing. He insist that the OEM brake pads do. I checked the brake pads that I replaced and they were Akebonos.
My questions are:
1. What clamp is he talking about?
2. Is the clamp something that comes with the brake pads or a separate part that I have to get somewhere else?

I can't feel any vibration, I just bought the vehicle and wondering where this noise might be coming from? If you rev the engine over 3k there is a strange vibrating/humming/rattling?? noise but you can't feel any vibration. I was thinking it might be the plastic cover on the engine or maybe something loose? I've already had the belt tensioners/belts checked out and that is not the issue.
It also sounds like a ricer when accelerating heavily (but from inside the cabin) there aren't any exhaust leaks at least I don't think so...
Well it's been a while since I have been here. My Ex has started a vibration in the front but I don't feel it in the steering wheel. I feel it in the floor board on my feet. It also makes a sound with the vibration. Kinda a thumping sound but not really. If that makes sense. I plan on putting it up on jacks this weekend and checking the front. I'm wondering if it is a hub stuck in locked portion and spinning the axle. I did use 4wd not too long b4 I noticed it.

View 3 RepliesFront caliper replacements--fwd? Person I bought this from said they'd just relined the brakes before I got it. After having it a week, I randomly checked torgue on lug nuts...a whopping 80 ft lbs. So now I have the vibrating rotors. When I back up I hear scraping like a bad set of bicycle brakes against an out of round rim. The pads are pretty thick. I bought new rotors and pads but I wonder if I shouldn't get calipers as well. This X likes to bite me in the butt--something simple is always about 5 times more complicated than anticipated.
View 1 RepliesSo, on my way home from checking out a house all of a sudden the truck started vibrating when getting on the highway. Then it got worse quickly. So I pulled off at the next exit and pulled into a parking lot, the truck shuddering badly any time I pressed the fuel pedal. Had it towed to my local Ford dealer. I'm thinking torque converter/transmission, but I freely admit I don't know. Here's what I think is pertinent info-
1. I bought it at 84k miles, now 122k. Oil changed every 5k, fuel filters every 10k, coolant every 20k, trans fluid every 20k. Don't kmow what was done first 84k miles before I bought it.
2. Driveshaft rebuilt one year ago. Both fr and rr diff fluids changed a few months ago, along with transfer case fluid.
3. When in park or neutral engine revs perfectly smooth. When placed in gear and fuel is added it starts to shudder, getting worse as revs go up. Does not vary with road speed, only with engine speed and load into transmission.
4. There are no codes at all. All temps were normal. Engine oil and trans fluid level normal.
5. A few months ago when coming home from a trip I suddenly had the same symptoms about 3 miles from home, but not as bad as today. Made it home taking it easy and went to bed. I was exhausted from a long day of driving and when I test drove the truck the next morning to check it out it was smooth as could be, so I thought maybe I imagined it. Symptoms did not reappear until today, a few months and several thousand miles later.
I have an 01 V10 4x4 with front end noise. I've done steering linkages and sway bar bushings. The clunks are gone but I'm left with some creaks when the body sways.

Recently, when i turn my X completely off and remove the key, I hear something that sounds like it runs on and off. I popped the hood and it sounded like it was coming from the EVAP canister. It will engage several times, even while my vehicle is off. I am not sure if this problem is related but sometimes when I turn my key off and remove it, my air will still be running if the switch for the air isn't turned off. Could this be related and point to a bad ignition switch? Or is this a coincidence and my ignition switch is bad along with a whole other string of problems within my EVAP system?

Torque converter has been replaced.... exhaust manifold bolts are ok too. Been to 3 places and no one can seem to pin point it or no where to begin.

View 14 RepliesReplaced front leaf springs to procomp, now i got a clunking noise from right leaf spring rear eye(and a little bit from the left).
Can it be that:
I've tighten them to much? Wrong way (big eye is in front)? Got about 4" lift in front and haven't received rear leveling kit yet so the angel is wrong?
I have an 01 Excursion. I tried to start it this morning and the radio and lights came on, but all it would do is make a really loud clicking noise. If the battery was dead would the lights come on? My friend who picked me up to take me to work also told me my battery connections needed cleaned...
View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 v10 with about 157k miles on it. Recently (within last 2 months) I am getting a ticking noise that is pretty constant. It doesn't seem to increase with rpms and I can barely hear it with the hood open- I hear it much better with the hood closed. It seems to start about 2-3 seconds after I start the car (when fan clutch engages?) and seems to be coming from the front middle of the engine. I do not see any broken exhaust studs. I do also occasionally have a ticking noise at 1500 rpms (only at 1500 rpms- not sure if it's related or not). I made a short video- not sure if you can hear the noise.
View 8 RepliesMy 01 Excursion Limited 6.8L 2wd is having what I think is a tranny/shifting issue? Mileage is about 160K. She has been doing just fine and no recent work or out of the ordinary maintenance/replacements..
Got in her this morning to go and noticed that the tranny seemed different. First thing I noticed was that the shift form 1 to 2 was long in coming and then sort of hard / thump when it did change. Then is seems to rev higher in the rpm range than normal when going into 3rd maybe 4th.? I pulled over into a parking lot, turned it off and did a brief inspection of the underside, fluid, etc.. and did not find anything strange. Started her back up and went to leave when I heard a popping / thumping noise from the tranny. Threw it in neutral and reved the motor to see what it sounded like and it was good. Back in drive again and the noise was there. Seemed to go away after getting up to say 45/50mph but the shifts were still off. Took her back home and now trying to decide whats first on diagnosing this issue?
Ford - e350 Superduty .... This truck has the x-tended cab and is 4 wheel drive. It began making noise and vibrating at high speed the other day...like when driving on the out-of-bounds drunk bumps. I found that when I engaged the 4-wheel drive transfer case, with the hubs unlocked, the noise went away for a brief period, but then would start again...especially after hitting a bump in the road. The noise & vibration will happen at any speed. It was suggested it might be the carrier bearing, but I checked that (pulled the drive-line) and it is tight. I had to back out a trailer in 4-wheel drive the other day and the phenomenon went away for several days, but is back now. With the windows down I can hear a clacking sound (not a clicking sound) that goes along with the vibration.
View 1 RepliesJust picked up an 01 Excursion V10 for $2900 with 170k on the odometer. Has some damage on the left quarter panel, but it runs perfectly.
Since I bought it, there has been a squeaking noise that I could feel underneath the driver's side floorboard. I figured it was body mounts. To find out if that was the case, I first sprayed both the sway bar bushings and the body mounts with some oil. The noise went away, but came back the next day.
The second time, I sprayed only the body mounts, and again the noise went away, only to return again. Aside from which, the sway bar bushings look like they were installed very recently.
So, it's the body mounts, but I've come across threads here and elsewhere that these were a common issue, but I haven't seen a fix for them. I assume new mounts would eventually develop the same noise.
What am I looking at here? Just some new mounts or do I need to do something else?
Since most of us on this forum drive pick-up trucks, we're all accustomed to them riding, well, like a truck. We fully expect them to bounce around a little bit, right? However, one should not expect to be annoyed by noises inside the cab. For instance, my passenger seat bounces around like a baby's bouncy chair, even when the road is smooth. Surely, I'm not the only one noticing this! How do I shut-up my passenger seat???

2001 F-150 4.2L automatic, 189k mikes. Gas pedal would do weird knocking/vibrating. It would do it at idle & under acceleration. Gas pedal would knock & sometimes slightly move or kick back at you. Felt like someone was lightly hitting it with a small hammer. Well there is not much to the gas pedal assembly; pedal, throttle cable & mounting bolts/plate. Looking under hood, a bracket from drivers side of motor was pushing back against firewall, which was pushing into gas pedal mounting bolts. I grabbed the bracket & it came off motor. Nothing else attached to bracket. Looks like it rusted off and was pinned between motor & firewall. Well, this fixed the gas pedal problems. But now i wonder what the bracket is & whats it suppose to hold??
