My buddies 01 Ex will shut off the dome light after a short time with any or all the doors open. My 02 Ex will never shut the dome light out unless all doors are closed.
I guess I'm headed for the override switch but wanted to confirm before if I did that there wasn't an issue with something other component.
I had a problem with my door ajar light always being on, I was able to find out that it was in the sensor for the back glass and was able to fix it. But now when I cut the explorer off and remove the keys the dome light comes on instantly even if no doors are opened and the lock/unlock button on the driver door won't work. However if I manually turn off the dome light my lock/unlock button starts working properly. Also if I do not manually turn the light of with the roll switch the light will stay on until the computer kills the power to it about 10 mins later. What could cause this??

View 3 RepliesOk so long story short, my Viper 2 way alarm, instead of the brain being wired to each of the 4 doors individually, the installer ran 1 wire to the dome light. seems to work fine as far as arming/disarming/locking/unlocking, but since the dome light stays on for 10 seconds or whatever after the door is shut.
When I arm it, the 2 way remote says "door open" because the light is still on so it thinks a door is open. this eventually times out and all the sensors arm, but theres a long delay. it arms fine and no alerts pop up if i lock the doors first from the outside keypad on the door, making the lights go off, then hit arm on the viper, and everything is good to go.
can i change it so no matter what, as SOON as i shut the door, the light goes off? i want there to be NO delay, if possible. if not, i may need to just have the installer run a wire to each door and take the single run to the dome light off, as it is sorta annoying to me.
I have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 and having problems right now because my Door Chime and Dome light dont work when the doors are open. But for some odd reason, when the rear door is open, the dome lights work. The 4 doors doesnt work yet the rear door does
The reason i want this is because i want to install an alarm and the door signal is needed and it is suppose to be tapped at the dome/chime so when the door is opened, the alarm will sound so it is not just relying on the Shock sensor.
Interior lights are sometimes staying on for 30 minutes after all doors have been closed. Thought it was the back hatch, but now seems to be random. I've cleaned the latches and lubricated with no luck. What else could be causing this?? A relay, computer.

Just replaced drivers side door latch on my 99 explorer sport 3 days ago with no problems but now all of a sudden I noticed after I closed door the dome lights would stay on and I made sure all door were closed tightly so i unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and the dome lights came right back on. What this could be or how to fix it?!

In my Expedition we could turn the little button next to the headlights switch to adjust brightness in the controls and speedometer and turn all the way til it clicks for off but doesn't work here.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2005 Excursion V10 4WD Eddie Bauer edition. Within the past month I have noticed that the interior dome lights and running board lights don't always come on when I open the doors. The dimmer switch is set to the highest level without being turned on and all of the dashboard lights work. I turn the dimmer switch on and sometimes the interior lights work and sometimes they don't. The door switch seems to be in good shape as well. If I turn the dome lights on individually they work so I know that there is not a problem with the bulbs. Where I can look for the problem?

Ever since I've owned this truck I notice that when I shut the truck off only my rear doors do not auto unlock. Is this normal? It's embarrassing when I have passengers and they need me to hit the unlock switch from my door to get out.

I am having strange electrical problems. This happens on an unpredictable basis but is getting more frequent (ie. use to be once every couple days and now is happening several times during my 24 mile drive to or from work).
After starting, the car door locks may automatically lock; however, a few seconds later they may lock again, and again.... This may happen 5-10 times in a row then it stops for 5 minutes or 2 days.
This week a new symptom showed up. The dome light came on while driving. It stayed on for a few seconds then went off. 5 seconds later the doors locked. This may or may not repeat. The light may stay on for 5 or 30 seconds always followed by the doors locking. It may repeat once or sever times in a row. I also noticed if I stepped on the brakes it turned off the dome light and then the doors locked but then it would likely start again. Turning on the headlights did not seem to have any effect.

My 2001 f150 is having a issue with the dome light. Sometimes when I park with the truck leaning to the right the dome light won't shut off when closing the door. What is the name of the switch that shuts the dome off? I assume it is located behind the kick panel.
View 1 RepliesBefore you all say it, yes I have made sure that the "door" button has been pushed. The front done light will work when I turn on the individual map lights. However when I open the front doors they no longer automatically come on. I am going to bring it to the dealer ( I am assuming it is a faulty "door" switch) just wanted to see what you all thought before I bring it to them.
View 95 Repliesi have a 2000 ex,6.8 4x4.every now and then the dome light stays on.theres also a problem where theres a buzzing sound coming under dash while driving and makes the dome light flicker.these are seprate problems.lol.when the buzzing sound is present ,it stops when i open the door,running or not.but starts up again when i close it,even happens occasionaly when ignition is off and no key in ignition.electrical problems are my worst night mare!!!!!!!! My battery is dead in the morning when this is happening .oh yea,and the o.d.light flashes occasionaly as well.im totally lost.
View 6 RepliesThe lens in my far rear dome light has a small crack in it. I was trying to find a new one, but so far, no luck. I've found a few used ones on Ebay for the Expedition, but none so far for the Excursion. Did the Expedition (99-02) have the same housing for the rear dome light as the Excursion? It looks the same, but I don't know if the dimensions are the same.
View 8 RepliesI know this has been beaten to death for years, but I can't find anything to my specific problem. My dome light stays on but rest of my interior/running board lights will go off after 30 seconds on my 2000 Excursion 2wd with V10.
When I got truck it had the door ajar light on which I fixed with the WD40 trick. Then I realized I had no dome light up front - pulled off the cover and there were no bulbs. Replaced the bulbs but couldn't get the lights to go out. All the other interior lights would go off.
I've swapped relays, checked the fuses, used the WD40, and I've made sure dimmer switch wasn't all the way up. Only thing I can see is that passenger side bulb "foil" power thing for that dome light bulb is torn so that bulb won't work.
Bought a '02 V10 gas 4wd Ex a week ago pretty cheap, and looking to fix a multitude of little issues.
I have been reading about the door ajar warning light issue, and mine alike has door ajar light always on. However, my dome/interior lights do not react to the opening of any doors/rear door hatch.
It's not out of the question that the last owner might have disconnected what he needed to to avoid fixing the problem and still use the truck. Where to start given I can't troubleshoot down to one particular door ajar sensor?
I have a 2001 triton not that the engine size matters to this question. I've been sleeping in my excursion alot and have been enjoying it, i find exiting out the back doors is much easier but i have no way to open them from a shut position. I do see a cover of a small slotted whole and think it might be part to future customizing but haven't found such a mod. So how I can open my back doors from the inside?
