Ford Excursion :: 2000 XLT - 4x4 Light Comes On But No Four Wheel Drive

I bought a 2000 Excursion XLT, 4x4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel back in the fall. Here in Indiana the winter is getting bad, not exactly the best time to find out your 4x4 doesn't work! My 4x4 light comes on, but I can tell I'm not in four wheel drive. I've read that on the diesels that the fix could be a simple vacuum line.

I have the ESOF in a 2000 Excursion. I went to use 4X4 high and it would not give me 4 wheel drive. light on dash said 4X4 but no 4 wheel drive. I was in snow and only rear wheels spun. When switch is placed in 4X4 low I get 4 wheel drive.

I have an 02 4x4 excursion. How can i tell if the 4 wheel drive is working? If I turn the switch I dont feel any change. Also sometimes I hear air coming up near the defrost at the base of the windshield which makes me think maybe the vacuum seal is out. Also how can I check/change the hubs between manual and auto and what applications would warrant switching them?

2001 7.3 l 4X4. I have done a ton of work to get the suspension and steering right. Changed all the shocks, added hellwig sways to front and rear, replaced steering gear with redhead, ball joints and added warns hubs. My question is today was the first time engaging the four wheel drive. I locked the hubs and turned the switch to 4X4 low, it starting squeaking and squalling and felt like my wheels were coming off. I put everything back to 2WD. I switched it to four wheel with out locking the hubs. no problem. When I locked the hubs in it started again. Been doing some research and looking at needle bearings, wheel bearings and axle joints.

I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd 7.3 diesel. Drove it an hour yesterday and drove fine. Got home and decided to check the mail so I put it in park, left it running and got the mail. Jumped back in and put it in drive and it would not move. Tried 1 and 2 and would not move. Put it in reverse and it barely moved.
I turned the vehicle off and back on. Put it in drive and it drove fine like nothing happened. Same thing happened today. Turned it off and back on and it worked fine again. It happened a 3rd time when I stopped put it in park and back in drive but I was able to move in drive once I revved it up a bit.
As long as it is in drive like at a red light with your foot on the brake it is fine but if you put it in park and then go to drive it wont move unless you turn the vehicle off and back on. The fluid is full, red and no burnt smell. Maybe converter or ???? Is it ok to drive i this way???

My V10 Excursion is giving me a little bit of a hard time. Once warm, it shuts off when I go from drive to reverse and when I have to brake hard. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and replaced the idle air valve behind the throttle body. Not sure what else I can do.

I have a 2000 ford f-150 4 wheel drive that will not disengage, I am down here in south fla where and don't put it in 4 wheel drive much, but yesterday I put in 4 wheel drive and I heard the click click and it engaged I put it in drive and drove it about 5-10 miles parked it and turned the switch to 2 wheel high and got out , got back in the truck turn her back on and the 4 by 4 lamp came one went off then came back on and stayed on and it still in 4 wheel drive and wont disengage.

I have a 2000 F-150 4x4 and the four wheel drive isn't working properly. It does work,but to get it to engage I had to drive in reverse for a couple feet then it locked it and everything was fine,pretty sure that isn't normal. What could be wrong with it? As soon as I turn the lights up on the dash,but the front tires don't spin.

When I am at stop light my truck cuts off while in drive, it idles low when cranks up, it sputters like its not getting gas, I already replaced IAC valve, cleaned throttle body & mass air flow sensor, I replaced fuel pump,fuel filter,all spark plugs & bad coil packs, check battery & alternator, checked all vacuum lines & every now & then the check engine light comes on with a p220 code: Output speed sensor which I replaced, what else could it be

Well its been almost 2 weeks since I've had the Ex (has 103K miles). Planning on new V code springs, Bilsteins front and rear , and rear Hellwig bar going in this weekend. Once I see how that that works I may also upgrade the rear springs to B code.
When I had it up yesterday I noticed the front right wheel does not spin freely. I can hear what appears to be the brake pad dragging.
Right not everything wrong with mine seems very common:
- very poor ride, 3/4" clearance between the front bump stop and suspension
- 4 door locks don't work (that's after the suspension fix)
- drivers heated seat not working

I just noticed the 4 wheel drive on my 2000 Chevy S10 doesn't seem to be engaging. The traction doesn't get any better turning it on and the other day I got stuck on a hill and the back wheels weren't spinning. What I can check or look at to fix it?

I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?

My wife drives a 06 Mountaineer last spring a left front brake caliper piston seized up and there was damage to the rotor I replaced both rotors and that left front caliper then I changed out the rear pads as well . Then ever so often before that the ABS light on the dash would pop on hit reset it wold go off now it just stays on.
Then a few weeks ago she said the little yellow lines that indicate you are in all wheel drive started to flicker on .. Have not a clue as to why that is on now . But I would told most code readers would not read these sort of problems that I needed to get it to a dealer..

After installing Banks headers and full exhaust, I took my truck for another test drive this morning. SES light came on about 15 mins into drive and is telling me P0174 - Bank 2 Lean.
So that's the right/drivers side - my list of things to go check

Started hearing a squeak from drivers front wheel area when turning right, thought maybe pads might need replacing but they were fine as were the pins. So I checked for play with tire off ground and there was def some play pulling from top to bottom, so that lead me to the front hub, I read some posts about pulling the abs sensor and getting some grease in the the hub bearing so I did that but when I replaced the sensor and spun the hub it was scrubbing on the bearing.?
So I shimmed the sensor with a washer but now the abs light comes on but there doesn't seem to be a squeak when turning right anymore. Any example of doing this and had the sensor scrub? And with the play I would assume I need to plan to replace the hub assembly fairly soon...

i have a 2000 ex,6.8 4x4.every now and then the dome light stays on.theres also a problem where theres a buzzing sound coming under dash while driving and makes the dome light flicker.these are seprate problems.lol.when the buzzing sound is present ,it stops when i open the door,running or not.but starts up again when i close it,even happens occasionaly when ignition is off and no key in ignition.electrical problems are my worst night mare!!!!!!!! My battery is dead in the morning when this is happening .oh yea,and the o.d.light flashes occasionaly as well.im totally lost.

I have a 1999 Ford F250 super duty 4wheel drive, lifted (really a leveling kit but had to lift rear to compensate), 5.4l. Im having a problem with my front shaft turning while in 2 wheel drive. Hubs aren't locked and its in 2 wheel not 4. I've taken hubs off and the bearing spins free soo I know its in auto. Why is the drive shaft still turning???????

2002 Excursion Limited V10, 96k miles...
History - 3 of 4 calipers have been replaced, to include the caliper on the suspect wheel, along with new brake lines. On occasion, while driving, i can smell the brakes. It emanates from the right rear wheel. I'm reluctant to think it's the caliper. At this point I'm thinking the him needs replaced. Any reason for this too is, on occasion the ABS light will flicker on.
I'm uncertain as to the cause of this because of it's intermittent nature - both the brake smell and the ABS light. When the ABS light comes on, it only flickers on, but when it goes out, the speedometer will drop to zero and come right back up. The truck has an electrical ghost, I know. For that matter, the door ajar light is always on, and the codes say it's all four door sensors - it's not the sensors, and it's not the GEM.
More importantly, though, I need to figure out the issue in the right rear wheel.
