2000 Excursion 2WD 6.8L V-10. Dashboard brake light has come on and is staying on. Fluid is up in reservoir visual on lines and calipers appear in standard nick. Bad brake light switch?
View 2 RepliesSo my 2000 ex has the door ajar light on. I have narrowed it down to the drivers side rear door. I have sprayed wd40 and pb blaster into the latch and its still on.
I have taken the panel off and sprayed everything inside. I pulled apart the wires running inside the door and tried doing some experimenting with twisting wires together, Hoping to close off the circuit.
I changed the bulb in my driver side brake light - routine -done a zillion bulb changes on my car. This time however the dashboard lights up every time I brake!! What gives? Something to do with the brake pedal triggering the brake light button in the footwell area under the dash? Its a 2000 Passat 1.8T sedan - manual tranny.
View 5 RepliesI noticed this morning that the brake light on the dash did not go out. I cycled the e-brake, checked the fluids. The fluid level is fine and I reached up and pushed in the contact switch for the e-brake and the light still didnt go out.
Driving it - no issues with braking. I know on some older vehicles, there's a proportional valve that gets stuck and can be cleaned. I'm not very familiar with this and Im not sure if it even applies to this model.
I did have the flex brake lines changed on the front because the right front was leaking and thought might as well do both.
2000 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4 ....
So my 2000 Ex started showing the parking brake light as if the parking brake was on...however it is not. How, or what do I need to do to fix it?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2000 Silverado 1500 4X4 extended cab with short box with a 5.3L. A couple weeks ago I noticed that my brake lights were staying on all the time. I removed the fuses for the trailer left and right lights and the brake lights went out. due to the holidays I haven't had time to find out why the lights were staying on.
Today I noticed that my 3rd brake light was staying on all the time, even with the truck off, and no one in the truck, and my electric brake controller inside the cab was on. I unplugged the controller from the fuse panel and the controller light went out but the 3rd brake light was still on. I couldn't find a fuse, so I removed the bulbs. Where I would start to find the problem.
I just replaced the rear calipers on my wife's Taurus wagon (old ones were siexed) and bled the brakes as normal, but now the brake warning light is on and staying on. At first I thought it was the parking break, but it seems to work fine, (Tried setting the parking break while in motion and the car slowed quickly.) Its the first time I have changed the calipers on a car. When bleeding I did so until there were no more bubbles pulling about 8 oz from each side. The reservoir did get low but I don't think it emptied. Is it possible that I went too far and now have air in the master cylinder? How would I correct this?
View 4 RepliesMy cars fuel system seems to have a problem, the check engine light came on, the loose fuel cap light has stayed on (caps been replaced) light continues. It revs high like going to 4 on the tach when I'm only going 35 so I try to accelerate slowly, when passing that's a problem, I suspect it's in the vacuum system. One mechanic told me it's nothing another, said he'd have to do a smoke test to discover the problem. It leaks gas if I only go a click over full, and the gas mileage isn't even the 25 mpg? Just wondering what it might be?

Had a couple days of 20's temps, started truck last night and I have the brakes symbol and ABS light staying on, with the message "Check brake system" and the traction control symbol alternating back and forth. On a 16 mile trip, they all went out just once, for about ten seconds when I restarted at the gas station. Then came back on. Brake job done within the last two years by previous owner at the dealership.
View 2 RepliesThe brake light on my 08 F150's dash comes on and off whenever it feels like it. Have had the brakes inspected and they are good and the e-brake switch is okay. Is there a fluid level switch in the master cylinder? The level is okay but maybe this switch could have a bad attitude?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Silverado 1500 4.8 liter v8. On my drive to work this morning the headlights and the cluster light shut off and the security light illuminated and has been on ever since . The truck will crank and run fine I have brake lights and turn signals and reverse lights. I have read that this problem can usually be traced back to the body control module. I located the TBC fuse under the hood and it was blown. so I replaced it with another 10 amp fuse and it blew immediately after I inserted it. So I am thinking if I am able to rule out a ground or bare wire somewhere then the module itself may just have to be replaced.
The next question I have is due to the security light staying on in the cluster all of the time. Assuming that I can continue to drive the truck while waiting to have the BCM replaced I would only need to ensure that I did not drive after dark as I have no headlights. But I am concerned that the security light being on all of the time will drain my battery. Do the security light remaining on will in fact drain the battery? And if so, is there a way to disable the cluster and door security light so that I may continue to drive it and not have to come home and disconnect the negative cable every
The Change Oil light was illuminated for a short time on my 2000 Grand Am. This morning, on the way to get the oil changed, the Service Vehicle Soon light came on also. After the oil change, the Change Oil light went off, but the Service Vehicle Soon light stayed on. I stopped by my mechanic, who doesn't like to change oil, since it does pay enough, and he said that there was something else that they should have done to reset this other light. He said it was in the manual, but I don't find it. How to turn it off?
View 4 RepliesMy V10 Excursion is giving me a little bit of a hard time. Once warm, it shuts off when I go from drive to reverse and when I have to brake hard. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and replaced the idle air valve behind the throttle body. Not sure what else I can do.
View 14 RepliesI checked the fuses and everything and searched the archived boards but no luck on this topic. I'm almost certain then that the bulb(s) for the dashboard are out. Is there any way I can circumvent going to the dealer to get them replaced? Also, if it's not the fuses or the bulbs, are there any other factors that could be causing this problem?
View 2 RepliesRear steel brake line ruptured the other day (was pretty rusty). Despite being an idiot in regards to automotive repair (among many other things), I decided to give it a shot. I was able to get the damaged section off, went to Autozone with the broken piece, they matched it up, were nice enough to cut it and put on one larger fitting (because the two were different sizes) and flare it for me.
I was able to get the one side (at the T fitting) on OK. That was the "new" side, the one they flared at Autozone. Looks good. No leaks.
The stock side, at the passenger side caliper, leaks like crazy. Not out the threads, but out the hole through which the line passes. Know what I mean?
I'm having a hard time figuring out what's happening, because I'm not sure how this thing works. Does the line fit flush to something inside the connection at the caliper? Is it a bad flare?
It did not go in easy, but the new one was just as much trouble as the fitting that came out (stock?), so it must be right.
The lights that light up the A/C controls in my '03 Accent went out. I checked all the fuses in the engine bay and inside the car and they were all fine. Since only the lights relating to the A/C controls are out, is it just a bulb? if so, how do I change the bulb? I began to take off the dashboard cover, but I didn't see any bulbs.

When I apply the brakes and come to a complete stop, right when the forward motion is completely stopped the ex kind of rocks back on the shocks. When that happens the ex jerks just a little. Kind of like if the brakes were sticking to the rotor, or the shocks are sticking. Then when I start to accelerate it jerks again. How can I tell if the brake hoses are bad, calipers are bad, or if it's the caliper slide pins, or if the shocks are bad?
View 11 RepliesI have an Accent 2003 - 2 door hatchback and for a while the light stays on, on my dash that the trunk is open.. I checked the lock, and the switch, and they are all ok.
Funny thing is, when I press the brake pedal, then the light turns of. Thought I would just deal with it, but it's driving me insane, looking at that light. I had to remove the light bulb from my trunk, since it is staying on all the time, and it had drained the battery.
I found through google some wiring schematics, but doesn't look like it's 100% correct.. Are there any available for my car, or even better, what it could be? (Faulty wire?)
My interior lights just started staying on intermittently. Seems like the front passenger door. I'll have to pull the panel and lube the switch.
View 7 RepliesJust recently, my Brake light started coming on, on my dashboard for several seconds or more then going back out. I checked the fluid and it was fine. The next time the brake light came on, I noticed that the needles for Both my Speedometer and RPM gages dropped to zero for as long as the Brake light was illuminated. Once the brake light went off, the needles once again showed my speed and RPM (were functional). This occurs while I'm simply driving down the road.
