My 2000 Excusion V10 has original shocks and has no suspension mods. I am adding Rancho 9100 XL's soon as well as a swaybar to the rear. Is the clanking sound I am hearing over rough surfaces from the worn out shocks on front or something else like ball joints?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?
View 3 RepliesI'm having 06 GS300. Just got the car about 2 months ago with 108,000k / 1 owner and she rides like a champ and I love this car! I want to do some preventive maintenance on her so she can keep me riding in style for years to come. The few things that I have noticed are as follows.....
1. Clanking sound in front end suspension when I roll over small bumps. It does not happen all the time, but it is noticeable. Almost sounds like a loose center cap on a set of rims. That's the sound I liken it to. Sounds like two pieces of metal hitting together. I was thinking some bushings maybe.
2. Squeaking coming from my front drivers side when turning the wheel while backing out of driveway or driving into driveway and when negotiating changes in the road while driving. Not very loud.
3. Suspension seems a little flat and I feel as though the struts and shocks need to be replaced. I'm wanting to lower it to fill the wheel wells and add a set on 20' rims offset 9.5 on front 10 on the back.
Front end makes metallic rattling/clanking sound. This happens when I make a right-hand turn, and the noise comes from the left-front wheel area. I describe it as the sound of dropping a handful of pots and pans.
View 4 RepliesMy passenger side front wheel is making a thump, thump, thump sound when turning. The wheel is smooth when turning, but when returning to straight it kicks everyone 1/32 of a turn.
I know my sway bar bushings are bad, but I doubt this would be caused from that?
Should I be checking ball joints, hubs? It's been like this for 2-3 weeks

--2003 Mountaineer 4.0/4WD 194,000 -- My mountaineer is making a loud, metallic, rapid "clanking" sound on slow max turns. It seems to be coming from the transfer case. Would that be possible? I recently changed the front wheel bearings and ball joints and the sway bars look good. There is no noise at idle and it will occasionally make a similar noise while going straight, then stop during the turn.
View 7 RepliesI have determined that I need to replace the Passenger side Universal Joint I got all 4 wheels off the ground and ran it and if you turn the wheel the passenger one Locks and will not budge. But besides that when I am driving strait I get a squealing Barking sound every now and then. If I engage the 4X4 it goes away. I thought it was a bearing but they spin freely and have no play in them at all.

Problem: Popping noise only on making turns, feels like its coming from underneath me. If i drive through a parking lot and jerk the wheel right and left I can make it do the same sound.
What's been done:
1. Replaced ALL the body mounts with new aftermarket mounts.
2. Replaced front leaf springs with new ubolts and everything
3. replaced sway bar end links
I took it to a local dealership to have them check it out (they are very trusted and reputable and I have an excellent relationship with them) and they thoroughly checked out everything. It's not the ball joints or anything front end (ball joints were replaced by them a year ago).
I'm at a complete loss, I feel I "attacked" all the common problems in these trucks that would cause that popping sound....what's left???
They assure me theres no safety issue or anything that would be a huge cause for concern, but that pop drives me a little crazy. I am a little OCD with my trucks.
I have a 2001 Excursion 4x4 with 35" tires and 139,5000 miles on the clock. After driving about 20 miles yesterday while running errands, I heard a "chirping" noise. Since I had just left a stoplight, I first blamed it on the Jeep Grand Cherokee leaving the light with me. It wasn't long before I realized the noise was coming from the Ex. I noticed the sound around 40 to 45 mph and while keeping the truck fairly straight. I caught some video/audio but didn't see where I could upload it.
The ball joints have greasible zerks so I know there are not OEM but, other than that, I don't know when/if the wheel bearings or sealed units have been replaced. Recommendations? Is it a good idea to go ahead and replace bearings, sealed wheel bearing assemblies, and seals to have a reference point and prevent damage or failure?
I have the 2000 Ex. Tan leather seats. Two seats in the front. I need to add a third. I used to have a F150, that had a flip up/down center console. It was a seat when flipped up (the console became the seat back). What are my options with the Ex?
View 10 RepliesI'm on my second blower motor and fourth blower motor resistor since purchasing my 2000 Ex approximately 3 months ago. The fan returns after replacing the resistor but ultimately, fails after 2-3 weeks. What can I test, what can I do? The weather is changing quickly here in NOVA and being without a reliable heater is a non-starter for the family vehicle.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 EX and my front A/C blower wet the bed yesterday. I have checked the fuses under the dash and under the hood. I removed the blower motor and supplied 12vdc directly to it. Works like a champ. I metered the harness connector with the ignition on and the fan speed switch at all speeds, I get a range of 8.1 to 8.9vdc. I metered the fuse terminals as well and get a steady 13.2vdc. Before I rip the dash apart, what is the most common to fail the Blower Resistor, Fan Speed Switch, or Blower Motor. Or, do I have a completely different issue?
View 5 RepliesToday after school I hopped into my car and turned it on, it made a weird clanking kind of sound, but then sounded normal. I turned it off and it did the same thing again. I put the car into drive and it was so slow accelerating. I had my foot to the floor and it was barely catching speed while my rpm was somewhere in the 5000's. I got home and I don't know what to do. ALSO, when my Escape is at a stoplight, it turns off and shows the engine light. What's going on. I had to put my car into park, re-ignite the car and go through, again, acceleration tremendously slow. It is a Ford Escape 2001 XLT with a new engine with 80k miles on it.
View 2 RepliesI used my truck in 4x to pull a couple of little stumps. Nothing major, just put it in 4l more or less to keep from tearing up the yard. Noticed a couple of weird things today. For a minute had a good pull to the right. Just felt "weIrd" in front end. For lack of a better explanation. Jacked up and checked for play, nothing unusual. Took off the tire and checked other stuff and couldn't find anything. Lubed up joints etc and drove later. I'm hearing a slight " clanking" noise in front. I know it's got something to do with the 4wd but I don't know where to start.

The SUV starts to shake. when i drive at a lower speed it goes away. it doesn't make the grinding sound while driving on back roads. What could it be?

It does also clunk at times or ping when I put it in gear.is this u joints? Hopefully not rear end. Its a 2000 limited ex. with the v10.
View 7 RepliesWhen accelerating from a stop, I get a clunking sound from the front end. I took some pics of the sway bar and I think it maybe loose. There is a gap between the bolt between the bar. Is this normal, or can I tighten it with the X on the ground or does it have to be up on a lift to properly tighten?

When making slow left turns, and sometimes hitting bumps going straight at low speeds 15-35 mph I hear and feel a crunching noise right below the gas pedal floor board area. I;ve had it checked out on a lift plus sitting on the ground and no none can figure out where the crunching (or banging) noise is coming from. Ball joints & tie rods are good, had them checked.
I bought the truck a yr ago and do not know much history of the vehicle. Is does still have the stock wheels, michlin tires and suspension. Ball joints and tie rods were replaced some time ago, not sure when...
I've got a strange sound coming from the front axle. I want to rule out/in that it may be my auto lock hubs. Can I slide the hubs out and drive around? I dont see any problem I won't be offroad, just some miles to test it.
View 1 RepliesWell its been almost 2 weeks since I've had the Ex (has 103K miles). Planning on new V code springs, Bilsteins front and rear , and rear Hellwig bar going in this weekend. Once I see how that that works I may also upgrade the rear springs to B code.
When I had it up yesterday I noticed the front right wheel does not spin freely. I can hear what appears to be the brake pad dragging.
Right not everything wrong with mine seems very common:
- very poor ride, 3/4" clearance between the front bump stop and suspension
- 4 door locks don't work (that's after the suspension fix)
- drivers heated seat not working
2000 Excursion, Limited, 4X4, 6.8L, V10. My right front inner differential seal is leaking. I have researched and found out that I have to remove the pumpkin gear assembly from the front differential to get at the seal.
Do I need any special tools to get the seals seated back into the differential? Any instructions or a list of parts needed?
I went to fordparts.com and entered my vin number but it makes no reference to the parts of the front differential only the rear.
