Yesterday morning taking off out of my driveway I heard a ticking sound. Kinda metal on metal sounding. It sounds like middle of truck underside. Only on acceleration. It does also clunk at times or ping when I put it in gear.is this u joints? Hopefully not rear end. Its a 2000 limited ex. with the v10.
View 7 RepliesI drive my golf maybe 180-250Km everyday, and there are countless areas where something could occur but for about a month now I am hearing a strange sound coming from where I suppose the suspension would be, (I don't know for sure because I am in the car when I hear it) but its happening when i go over speed bumps, even going less than 10kph.... and when ever i hit a crappy road with a lot of potholes and bumps. it sounds like a scraping noise of like maybe the shock absorber or something along those lines. I would go to VW but the dealer in my area likes to void warranties, and is very difficult in giving away things for free/cheap. it getting consistently louder and is starting to worry me. should i be worried or is it a simple fix?

For the past week or so, I've been noticing a hissing sound coming from underneath the car near the front driver side area.
It almost sounds like air being let out of a tire. It only happens when the car is turned on, and the sound is there when the car is in park or in gear.
Not noticing any change when driving the car.
So, I have discovered my first rattle in my GTI (8500 miles). Seems to be from the underside, sounds like a heat shield rattling, certainly sounds metallic. Did some spirited driving yesterday and hear the rattle today. Any target areas to check when I take a look under it?
View 6 RepliesYesterday was one of the first days I ran my AC this year...stopped at the mail box and as I walked by the front of the truck I could hear a ticking sound...got to the driveway and tried the AC in Max, Regular, Fan, and Off...in Max and Regular, a ticking sound (compressor?)...in just Fan and Off nothing. I'm guessing the compressor may be on it's way out...
2000 V10 Limted 4X4 if it matters.
I have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine. 2000 Excursion. It only happens when accelerating in every gear between 1400-2100. No noise at idle or park. Same noise when cold or warm, again only when accelerating. Goes away when you take your foot off gas. New exhaust studs, exhaust does not seem to be leaking, no carbon build up anywhere. No engine codes. Truck runs great and no loss of power. V10 with 120 k on it. Really annoying.
View 14 RepliesStarted my truck (2007 EB 4x4, 5.4) this morning with my daughter in her car seat behind me, we get about 1/4 mile down the street and all of a sudden I notice myself moving!
My daughter starts freaking out, I pull over and my seat is still moving. I end up COMPLETELY reclined, all the way down and all the way back. The seat pinned my daughter in her seat, she's flipping out...I had to unbuckle her car seat while she's screaming because her legs are pinned and have to slide her car seat out sideways with her in it.
Seat does NOT move at all.
Now, before all of this I had heard a "ticking" sound coming from inside my seat, been doing it for months but since everything worked and not dummy lights came on I just ignored it. Apparently, this was not a good idea because now it is not ticking and the seat is not working....
2000 f150 v6... I just got the truck and was fine went to instant oil change and changed the oil used 5w30 and there filter unknown brand? now I'm getting a ticking kinda like a lifter tick?? you can hear it at idle not when moving.. Would the thicker oil be causing this? or the cheap filter is so filter should I go to? Motorcraft? bk to factory oil?
View 1 RepliesI have used a wooded stick to locate a ticking or knocking noise on my fuel rail. I can't hear anywhere else on the motor. I took it to a mechanic and he told me it was the timing chains and guides. Sometimes it is very loud and other times it barely noticeable. 191k miles so I am not going to spend $ rebuilding the front of the motor. Just want to be sure it is what he says before I scrap it out.
View 5 Repliesits a 2000 limited 4x4, must have been in the snow a lot because it was from up north and is pretty rusty on the underside. my dad and i have tried everything to get these caps off but nothing will work. lots of pb blaster, hammering, even cutting the one of the four joints and trying to wedge something from the inside. If we cant get it could a shop do it? and how much might they charge?
View 9 RepliesBought the EX from my sister 2 years ago, I know that she's had the ball joints replaced several times and have read on here how some people have only gotten 20K miles out of a set. Anyway, I have the same clunk and I spent one Saturday changing them out ( as well as new brakes and rotors ) I still have the same cluck sound. I've just read a thread on the hubs rattling and its related to the needle bearings wearing out. I'll lock it in 4WD to see if the clunk goes away but I don't think that's going to work.
Would bad / incorrectly adjusted wheel bearings make this same sound? When doing the ball joints, I saw one set must have been rebuilt since the locknut looked brand new and the other side showed its been there a while.
I put new upper and lower ball joints on a few weeks ago. The front end is really tight after getting done. the steering wheel will not return to center. I feel like I am constantly on the wheel correcting. I had the alignment checked and they said it was good. I also put new 17" wheels and bigger tires on it at the same time.
We just towed our camper this past weekend and the truck and camper was all over the road. Is all of the above caused by new ball joints?
Our axle seal went out 2500 Miles ago. Its a light leak and just wets the axle by the U-Joints. Also our 4x4 hubs don't kick into action when they should. I have to put them in Lock to get them to work. That may be why the axle seal went out, because I just leave it in lock then drive thousands of highway miles. (I don't do that anymore now that I know what I was doing) Maybe the vacuum isn't working. Could they have anything to do with each other? I don't think they do. I'm not sure how the vacuum works. Maybe I just need to service the Hub? I watched a video on it that made it seem like cake. New hubs crazy expensive!

Any recommendations on ball joints rockauto has a lot of options. I was just going to buy the motorcraft but thought I should ask here first.
The write up in the tech folder also includes parts I may need, are there any parts that I should buy to have on hand just in case?

View 5 RepliesI've been hearing this ticking noise coming from the back of my prius when driving. i can only hear it when my windows is down and i'm passing by an object that reflects the sound so i can hear it., like if i was driving by a car, building, median with barriers etc. It sound like pop rocks candy literally but much slower.

View 10 RepliesFunny pulsing ticking sound on full lock. Only noticeable when parking etc. But once it's started making it, it stops when the lock is unwound... but does it again without lock when the car reverses.
There is no feeling through the wheel or through the chasis when going forward... but subjectively it can be felt when going backwards.
Been getting a little bit more prevalent over the last thousand miles. Driving normally, steering feels perfectly normal.
I've checked the power steering fluid. If anything the reservoir is over full.. so it's definitely not short of fluid. Should the fluid be checked from unscrewing the dipstick.. or with is jut dipped in and not screwed up? Either way it's still over the max line.
I noticed my sound a few weeks ago but wasn't as loud as the videos I've seen. Didn't really bother me. I did notice today that the sound was a lot louder . The only thing that has changed is i had my oil changed over the weekend with mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic. Now I don't know if that could factor into the sound getting louder.
I am really hoping its just a cat and i can replace my headers and everything is good. i just got the car with 19k miles on it and do not have a warranty.
I have been worrying about "engine noises" for years and at this point if its something i can't fix without dumping thousands of dollars into it, then so be it. I am just going to enjoy the car too the fullest. Plus, once i get full exhaust, it will work with canceling out the ticking sound.
as the title says, my 2010 accent is at 81,000KM and i hear a ticking sound? is it the timing belt? when driving i dont hear any ticking but once stopped or idling i hear ticking and it never stops til i accelerate.
If it is timing belt, does this mean time for replacement? or what could it be?
