Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1988 - Overheats While Idling?

My 88 2.9 ranger keeps heating up badly while idling. Was waiting in the drive-thru at Wendy's and it was taking them longer than usual, the temp guage started climbing closer and closer to 'H'.. I revved it up a bit to a fast idle (1500-2000rpm) and it did not work much... figured the gauge was being screwy. But when i finally got my food and started moving the truck was pinging..it really was hot..

But as soon as I got her moving at a steady 40mph, engine cooled back down to normal temp as if nothing ever happened..i put an extra wide two row aluminum radiator from a 4.0 explorer in it, fan clutch is not very old, no coolant leaks that i can see.. can't figure out why it heats up so much so fast at idle. Not enough air or coolant flow?

Ford - Explorer :: 1998 - Overheats While Stopped For 5 Minutes?

My '98 4.0L Explorer Sport will begin to overheat if I'm in stopped traffic for more than 5 mins. on a hot day with the A/C on. I can correct it by turning off the A/C. Would a different thermostat work? If so, what temperature do I need?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Cannot Get It Going Over 30 Mph

I just put new plugs in and changed the fuel filter. I also hooked it up to a ecm reader to see if there where any faults and it does not have any. I reset the computer just he same. But for some reason I can't get it going over 30 mph and when i floor it. It just doesn't go anywhere. At first it did read faults in the 6 plug but I didn't have a check engine light on i just replaced the coil and plug but now after I did everything I cant get above 30 and its scary. I just don't know what to do?

It does idle normally. As for the fuel pressure i took the filter off and turned it over and fuel runs through fine from the tank. I checked the wiring and it looks ok. No codes are present. This just started it happened a long time ago but after I changed the fuel filter it worked fine so I changed it again thinking it was the problem again but after i did it the problem still persists. I don't have any check engine light on either....

Ford - Bronco :: 1979 - Overheats / Temp Gauge Will Climb

Got my 1979 Ford Bronco (351M engine) from my father. He had it in Colorado, mostly in a garage. Had 82,000 miles when I got it and has 67,000 miles now. Runs fine when the outside temperature is less than 80F. Above 80F, the will get hotter and hotter and the temp. gauge will climb. When the temp. gauge is 2/3 of the wat between Cool and Hot it will start to buck and cut out. Eventually the engine will stop. Then I have to wait for it to cool down to repeat the cycle. I have replaced all hoses, radiator, thermostat (3 times), radiator cap, carb. I have installed SS louvers in the hood. Heck, I have even "burbed" it (see Internet).

Ford Transmission :: E4OD - 1990 F250 Overheats In Overdrive

My 1990 F-250 with the 460 overheats when driving in overdrive. Driving a hundred miles will turn the trans fluid brown and the transmission is very hot even though it drives just fine. If I drive it out of overdrive I have no problems at all.

It all works fine except the overheating in overdrive, no flashing on the overdrive light. The tans shop is not getting a code, they tell me they have to rebuild the tranny.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 5.4L V8 - Overheats At Times When At Stop

3 months ago.. I had my fan clutch replaced, along with alternator.. a few coils.. a belt and an oil change. While installing fan clutch the shop accidentally poked a hole in radiator so they got a new one ( After Market) and replaced it. After leaving the shop, I noticed the fan clutch was not rotating smoothly, it had a considerable wobble to it, so took it back and it was replaced..new one did same things.. so it was replaced again. Truck seemed fine after the 3rd one was installed, and then after a a 3 hour drive.. i pulled over to gas station, and while truck was at idle in park.. it started to run hot. Raised hood, there was no visible coolant in holding tank on side, so after a while.. i took cap off and as I released it... coolant started to bubble back into holding tank. I then started truck up.. it was fine rest of way home.

Over next few weeks, this happened 4 times.. ac will be on, truck sitting still at red light etc.. and truck will start to run hot. So i had a new thermostat installed, and also a new water pump. Took it to a guy who runs a shop i know and also had system vacuumed. ( it was burped prior). Thought we had it fixed.. NOPE.. did it again yesterday. So truck has had new fan clutch, new thermostat, new water pump, new coolant, new radiator.. and it still only runs hot if at idle.. and it wont do it all the time.. but about once a week.. it will... and it will go over to red.. and ill shut it off and after about 10 min.. turn back on and continue on my way.. What I noticed..and this may be a key piece of info to someone who may know what is going on... it seems that the times it has ran hot.. while at idle the fan clutch was off.. and once i reved engine up to 2500-3000 rpms.. I got clutch to engage and bam !!.. truck comes back down to normal temp.. midway on gauge .. AS long as I am driving down road.. no problems.

** Also as a sidenote.. my engine does have a engine coolant temp sensor on it. Part # DY 1025 motorcraft. On some vehicles.. this part tells the fan when to turn on.. not sure if it does on mine. Originally , I took truck in bc fan clutch was staying engaged to much..meaning fan was on all the time. So.. maybe it could be the sensor ?... now all the new fan clutchs that have been put on do not come on like they are suppose to.. work right sometimes.. other times.. truck has to be at high rpms to get it to engage.. not working right all the time at low rpms.

Are their fan clutch relays ?.. I have an electric fan clutch.. This seems to me that this is a fan clutch issue.. and this is the 3rd one on the truck.. came from autozone.. it is the correct one for truck and has a warranty. Mechanic now wants to try going with a ford fan clutch by motorcraft.. 2007 F150 5.4 V8 ...

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - A/C Only Works For A Little While

I am having a hard time figuring out what is going on with my A/C. First time you start it for the day, works great, blows cold air, but will only do it for about five minutes, then the compressor kicks off.

I have tried by-passing the high and low pressure switches, compressor still will not kick on. Checked the air-gap, it is fine, and I actually removed the shim, so there is almost no gap at all now, didn't fix the problem.

I tried replacing the A/C clutch relay, no luck there. I can tell you that if I manually push the contact in on the A/C clutch relay, the compressor kicks in and runs.

The only thing I can think of at this point is the A/C control panel in the dash, but wanted to check before I buy that expensive part and replace.

If it matters, this is on a 2000 Excursion, with the 6.8l v-10

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - 4WD Won't Engage?

I have a 2000 excursion v10 with 66k miles on it. This past weekend i went to engage my 4wd and it would not work. the light on the dash is on and i think i heard a click but no luck. A buddy told me to tap the transfer case motor with a hammer but am a little skeptical. another friend told me to check the vacuum switch with the vent/ defroster but i am not sure that holds true with my yr/model (i did a test where i left the vent setting on face/feet then turned on the 4wd. the airflow seemed to remain as set). About a year ago i removed, regreased and repacked my front hubs.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 Won't Start / PCM Is Bad

I've had a lot of problems with this truck and strongly believe the pcm is bad so i bought a used one now it wont start. Just to let you know i did put old one back in to see if it did run with it and it did. I spoke to the dealer they say I have to bring it in to program it for the PATS. I know its got to be programed but does it have to be the dealer.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Can't Communicate With ECM

I am having trouble with my 2000 Excursion 7.3. It died on my wife this morning, but it started right back up and made it home(4 miles). Figured it was the CPS but when i went to hook up the code reader, it just kept saying that i needed to connect it to the vehicle first. I verified that the reader was working on both my other vehicles. Then had to go to work. I wondering if my ECM is going bad?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 - No Start With Key

I have an intermittent problem with my 2000 Ex V10 with factory remote start. Sometimes when I put the key in to start the truck, I get nothing. I believe the theft light flashes but I am not entirely sure. Sometimes after a few tries with turning the key it will start. If I hit the button for the factory remote start it always starts, so I have never gotten stuck anywhere.

This issue could happen 2 or 3 times in a row and then not happen again for days or weeks. It's been going on for a couple of years now. What to look at. There is no telling when it will happen again though.

BTW, I have stomped the brake pedal and I have moved the gear shift when it happens and sometimes on retry it starts and sometimes it does not. When I just keep trying the key sometimes it eventually starts too, so I do not think it is the safety in the brake pedal or in the shifter, but I could be wrong.

Ford Excursion :: 2000 6.8L V10 - No Fifth Gear

I have been getting awful gas mileage lately. I have a 2000 6.8L V10 Excursion, so I wasn't expecting much but it got bad. I know winter weather kills gas mileage but i finally noticed I do not have fifth gear. Fluid is good, clean and not burnt and all other gears hit when they need to, what this could be besides a new tranny.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 F250 Only Overheats When Towing

I have a 2006 F-250 Super Duty Diesel that I just purchased. Of course there is no warranty and of course I am not that familiar with trucks or cars for that matter. I bought this to tow our 29 ft trailer, which weighs roughly 7000 and should be no problem for the truck. The first 5 times we took it out everything was good and then we took it out and had a short but steep incline and the truck started over heating.

After unhitching the trailer, I drove the truck again and it runs great, no overheating. I even went to the same hill and everything was fine. So, I took the trailer out again and the same thing happened. What this could be? Since I am so unfamiliar with mechanics of things, I really don't want to get ripped off. I have read the troubles with the engine but don't want to spend the 6-8k to rebuild if not necessary.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Overheats When Towing / Almost Instantly Under Load

In the last 3 weeks I've replaced the oil cooler. IPR, ICP, fan clutch, intercooler, rebuilt the turbo, new elc coolant, egr valve, thermostat, new batteries, positive battery cable, and alternator and a host of other crap. Now I have a new problem.

When towing it overheats, almost instantly under load. I was towing a 9k trailer up a hill, a total of about a 30 second climb and it overheated (242 degrees). I'm thinking head gaskets at this point as they are stock and have the tty bolts installed.
