Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Misfire - Got Codes P0301 And P0302?

May 27, 2012

2000 Ford Ex 5.4 V8 175K miles

Top of radiator (plastic part) had a small crack and started leaking on drivers side. Fixed with JB Weld. Ran fine for a day. Now I have a bad misfire and codes P0301 and P0302 (Cyl 1 and 2). Cleaned MAF and checked Air Filter. All good. Plugs replaced at dealer less than 20K miles ago.

So I took off Cyl 5 (easiest) and found that the boot is fine but the collar on the boot is done for. Can this cause the issue?

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Got Codes P0301 And P0302 / Misfire At Low RPM?

This has been an ongoing issue with our 2006. We purchased the car about a year ago and have put on just over 8,000 miles. Rebuilt the battery pack and replaced the 12v battery. This is my wife's car and I have a 2005, so I have done some diagnostics, tuneup, and even swapped some parts between the two cars trying to narrow down the issues.

Only recently have codes been recorded. The car is has a noticeable misfire at low RPM. Here is what has happened up until now:

11/29/15 - replaced spark plugs - #1 was fouled so I swapped coils between cylinders 1 and 4

2/25/16 - replaced 12v battery with new battery

4/1/16 - P0300, P0301 codes were first recorded and reset to see if they came back

4/10/16 - swapped Integration Relay with my 2005 (part # 82641-47010). My 2005 ran poorly after the swap, so I put a used one in my 2005.

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Misfiring - Got Codes P0300 / P0301 / P0302 / P0303?

i have a 01 passat with a v6 in it on 4 motion and im having an issue with soem mis-firing

i pulled the codes. P0300 P0301 P0302 and P0303 which are all saying that there are missfires in cylander 1,2 and 3 and random miss fires.
im also getting a P0340 which is cam sensor A or the right hand bank. problem is i just replaced the cam sensor and when the motor got warm, the code came back. I was told by the previous owner that the car needed a Coolant Temp Sensor....can this be the cause of my mis-fire issue? hear me out.... it only happens when the car is warm so im thinking that the car is warm but the ecu thinks its cold cause its not getting a good signal from the CTS. thus its either advancing the timing as if the motor is cold and cuasing a miss fire or something along those lines. any thoughts?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Codes P0302 And P0401 / Misfire Due To A Loose Injector Plug

My 97 F150 4.6 4x4 threw a P0302 and P0401 the other day, I traced the miss fire to a loose injector plug. I reset the codes last weekend, I got in the truck and went to the Dump and to town to pick some stuff up. It threw the EGR code again, so this morning I did a little checking on the EGR I cranked the truck and disconnected the FPR vacuum line and hooked it to the EGR valve and the truck died down but didn't completely die.

Now the green line that went to the EGR valve felt like it had a slight bit of pressure coming from it. Is this normal? I did pull the white feed line from the EGR Regulator and it had good vacuum.

The regulator also makes a humming sound when you cut the truck off. Ill be pulling the alternator this weekend due to it going out last night, while I'm in there if Ive got to pull the throttle body id rather do it while I'm elbow deep in it. So does it sound more like a Clogged Throttle body or a Faulty sensor?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Misfire - Consistently Getting Codes P0301 And P0304

I would like to find out why my car is misfiring before throwing parts at it. I have a basic level of mechanics and have checked a few things before posting here, which may or may not have ruled out some possibilities.

The problem: I have been consistently getting P0301 and P0304 but only happens sometimes, while other times there is no check engine light. I first checked the ignition coil, right side of it, that controls cylinders 1 and 4. Did resistance test, measured for voltage, and checked the wires for continuity to the connector, with everything coming out good. I know a few must have had issues with the cheap pigtail connector like me so I went and changed that but still got the misfire codes. I then put in an older known to be good working coil but no change.

After that, I removed spark plugs 1 and 4 and put them where 2 and 3 go but still got the same codes P0301 and P0304.

A friend who is a mechanic for Nissan checked the spark and wires, saying they were fine. He then checked the injectors and noticed that injector 1 didn't increase in ticking sound when RPM increased. He said I should replace injectors 1 and 4 to see if that changes anything or switch injectors 1 and 4 with 2 and 3 to see if the codes at least change. I removed them all, got two of them from junkyard just in case, made my own tool where I pumped straight fuel injector cleaner through each of them with pumped air, and put the two from junkyard on cylinders 1 and 4. I still got the same codes so then I switched injectors 1 and 4 with 2 and 3, which didn't change the codes.

I was told by another local mechanic shop that it's definitely the coil but I knew it wasn't.

Other info: I am not sure it would matter when dealing with a misfire but I borrowed a code scanner and saw that the Long Term Fuel Trim was -7%. I researched that and it means that the car is running rich and the computer is being told that it needs to run lean. I am not sure that this would make only two of the cylinders misfire and the freeze data shows that same negative LTFT for when the P0301 happened. I also know that there is an air leak at the gasket where the front cat connects to the flex pipe/rear cat. I have also gotten a rear downstream 02 sensor code once within the past month but it hasn't come back.

Would the LTFT being lean have anything to do with the misfires? Would the gasket between the two cats cause the 02 sensor to get a faulty reading? If so, would the downstream 02 sensor be able to adjust to a lean fuel mix? What else should I check?

Ford Excursion :: When Parked Facing Uphill Start Rough And Sputters - Codes P0316 / P0306 And P0301?

I have a small problem that has been going on for about the last 6 months. It only appears once in a while, and only when I have parked facing uphill for longer than a day or so. Upon first start (cold) after sitting pointed uphill for a day or two, it starts real rough and sputters a bit. Then when I check codes, I always have a pending P0316 (misfire within the first 1000 revolutions) along with a P0306 or P0301. No dash lights or anything.

Since those two cylinders are at the front of the motor, could it be that the fuel is leaking back down the rail and leaving those two injectors dry? It isn't always both cylinders, sometimes one or the other. If this is the sign of something bigger on the horizon, I would like to have a heads up.

Passat (B5) :: P0340, P0300, P0301 And P0302 Scanned

I have a 2001 Passat 1.8 Turbo engine trim is AUG. My car is acting funny since yesterday. When i start my car it idles rough and CEL start flashing but as soon as i drive at like 10-15 MPH speed it becomes smooth and CEL stops blinking. I took my car to autozone and have it scanned got P0340 P0300 P0301 and P0302. It means random misfire and misfire in cylinder 1 and 2. I am not getting the misfire code for cylinder 3AND 4.

I swap coil boot 1,2 with 3 and 4. But misfire didn't move with cylinder. So i waited whole night reset CEL and swap coil 1 with 4 and 2 with 3. Have i scanned again not i am getting P0300 = random misfire and P0302 = misfire in cylinder 2. I didn't get P0301 this time.

Ford - Explorer :: 1999 - Engine Rattling - Code P0301 / P0302 / P0303 / P0173 - Motor Shot?

My wife started our '99 Explorer last week and she said that the engine was rattling. I started it up when I got home and it sounded like something had let loose in the engine. We took it a local mechanic and he basically said that the motor was shot. I pulled the codes and it doesn't look good to me but I'm not a mechanic. Codes are:

P0301
P0302
P0303
P0173

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: CEL Code P0301 / Misfire With Cylinder 1

My 97 F150 through a CEL Tuesday night P0301 so I picked up a new plug because it's cheap and simple, but that didn't do anything. Spark plug wires are about 3 months old, I also swapped injectors between 1 and 2, and misfire stayed with cylinder 1. It also gained a tap when the misfire started but only above idle, but it doesn't sound like a rod knock.

I also noticed if you unplug injector 1at idle it taps/knocks 3 or 4 times, however if you unplug any of the others it doesn't do that. I checked and I definitely have good spark from the plug. I plan on picking up a new compression tester tomorrow since mine never was returned. If you take the oil fill cap off it doesn't have any blow by at idle, however if you rev it you get a quick cloud out of it.

I thought about picking up a kit to check the injector pulse.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Code P0301 - Misfire Cylinder 1

This happened xmas shopping with the wife. Started misfiring on the highway,took the 1st exit to find a garage as I am 20kms from home. The vibrations were worse at stop, but made it to a garage. They gave me the p0301 misfire cylinder 1, said they don't touch 5.4 plugs, told me to go to ford 2kms down the road. NICE. 4 in the pm, FORD dealer worse case scenario. Nope gave me a loaner told me come back at 930am. Truck was just waiting for an injector when I arrived. Plug & coil were good injector was shot,changed the fuel filter & oil change.

Ford - Freestar :: 2004 - Misfire / Computer Code Is P0302

My 2004 Ford Freestar SEL (the 4.2L version, 123,000 miles) is missing. The computer code is P0302 which, from what I can find, indicates a misfire in cylinder 2. I had this same code at 99,000 miles and ended up having the spark plugs and wires replaced around 100K miles. It was all running fine until about a month ago and started misfiring again, badly. I thought it was related to the rain but it is doing it all the time now. At times it gets so bad, I have no power and the computer disengages my A/C (bad at this time of the year). I tried a running a fuel system cleaner that specifically mentioned cleaning the injectors, hoping the problem was simply a clogged injector, to no avail (I know I probably wasted my $10 here). I have a couple of questions:

1. Am I doing damage to the engine or transmission by continuing to drive it? I really don't have a choice but need to know how urgent it is.
2. Does this thing have a traditional distributor cap & rotor or is there an electronic ignition module the plug wires connect to?
3. Where would I find the illusive distributor or ignition module, in theory?
4. Any other theories as to the cause of the misfire (cheapest first)?

Ford - Explorer :: 1996 - Shakes Above 57 Mph - Codes P0401 And P0301

The Explorer ran just fine last week, until I tried to clear a chronic (months) "Check Engine" light. Initially the only 2 codes were pertaining to the DPFE sensor and Cylinder #1 misfire. I found an aftermarket rubber hose from the DPFE that had rotted off. I replaced the rubber hose, and I replaced the #1 spark plug and wire. Instead of simply clearing the codes and turning off the "Check Engine" light, it now shakes to the point where it's barely drivable. 57 mph seems to be the "sweet spot" where the shaking is the worst, but it will also shake under heavy acceleration, and when driving uphill at freeway speeds. Taking your foot off the gas seems to decrease the shaking somewhat. The weather had been unusually cold (for South Texas), and as the weather has warmed-up, the shaking seems to have diminished, so there may be a connection between the shaking and the temperature.

OBD-II Trouble Code: P0301 Cylinder 1 One Misfire Detected
OBD-II Trouble Code: P0401 Insufficient EGR Flow

I have a lot of questions, but do not want to cloud the 1st post of the thread with information that may be irrelevant, so I'll leave it at that. This is my work vehicle and I'm in the middle of a job and am worried that I may be causing permanent damage to the vehicle by driving it. I know I can change-out the DPFE sensor and the ICM, but as they are both non-returnable parts, I don't want to spend the money without good reason.

Ford - Taurus :: 2001 - 3.0 Engine Misfire Consistently / Code P0301

I had a consistent misfire on this car and finally got a P0301 trouble code. I installed new Autolite AP 104 plugs and wires. Now, when I start the engine. it runs perfectly. But when I put it in gear, it misfires. After a minute or so, the misfire clears and the engine runs perfectly. I have not received another trouble code. One thing I did notice is that the plugs I took out (Motorcraft AWSF 32P) had a much larger gap than the .044 the associate at AutoZone set the new plugs to.

Ford - F150 :: 2003 - Code P0301 / Misfire On Cylinder 1 Keeps On Coming

I am at about my wits end with this P0301 (Misfire On Cylinder #1) code on my 2003 Ford F150 4.6L. I've replaced the coil pack on that cylinder, all the spark plugs, and replaced the fuel injector on that cylinder. We keep clearing the code and it keeps on coming back.

The weird thing is that it only misfires after the truck has set for a few hours and then it only misfires when I first put it in gear. Once I am out of the driveway and on the road it's fine for most of the day unless I let it sit for several hours and then it might misfire again.

We noticed that the connector to the fuel injector is wobbly and doesn't snap tight to the fuel injector (before and after it was replaced) due to the clips on the side not working well. We zip tied it together this afternoon to make it fit tightly to the fuel injector to see if that works.

What could be causing this? Other than that misfire the engine sounds great and the trucks runs very well.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Shudder / P0301 Misfire On Hard Acceleration

Was driving to Airport yesterday and out of nowhere got the flashing check engine and shudder/limp mode while trying to merge/accelerate onto the onramp (had to gun it to go around someone who decided to stop on the onramp for no reason). Let off the gas and the blinking went away. Upon leaving the airport I was accelerating again at highway speed to pass and got the blinking light and then a solid CEL. Found my way to a Autozone and got the code read. P0301 Cylinder#1 Misfire. Was suggested to change COP and plug.

Changed COP on the spot and had to drive it home to my tools to install plug. Thought maybe that since the CEL was still on solid after changing that the code needed to be cleared for the PCM to function normally again. Still have shudder when accelerating hard, so thought it might have been injectors so got cleaning service done at Goodyear. Still have the issue. Disconnected battery and performed IDLE relearn just now and it still is shuddering upon hard acceleration. Stumbled across TSB 12-6-4 which speaks to my symptoms.......I do not have the plate which in turn would imply I do not have the PCM update it references.

I have not noticed a misfire nor had an acceleration issue before so this was a surprise to come out of nowhere. I'm going to be calling my dealership in the morning.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1998 - Cylinder 1 Misfire / Code P0301

I have a 98 F150 4.2L with code P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire.

This is what I have done so far. New plugs, coil pack, plug wires, TPS, EGR, EGR Vacuum control regualier, DMCP, canister, all of these parts are new and was bought from the ford place. Have taken the egr value, and egr value bracket off to see if carbon blockage was present, but it was clean. It was clean in the motor also. Have blown air through the metal tube that connects to the egr value and it come out the tail pipe very good, so no blockage their. Have cleaned throtle body and injectors. Have tested fuel injector with tester and it works correctly. Motor holder pressure. Have correct fuel pressure.

Do not have any vacuum leaks, it holds vacuum correctly. Crankshaft sensor is fine. Went throw 4 cans of break parts cleaner, spraying on intake while motor was running, motor did not idle up or change. I have done all this and it still shows code P0301, and it still skips. Here's the catch, if you unplug the vaccum off the egr the misfire goes away, or unplug the EGR vacuum control regulator it goes away, or if you unplug the DMCP sensor it goes away, it does not matter witch one you unplug, the misfire goes away.

I have had several different test done the the truck, but all the test only show that one code P0301, they do not show any other codes, or problem's with my truck.
