Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 - Tranny Not Working Properly - OD Light Flashing?

Sep 12, 2014

I thought my tranny shift points had gone a little nutty. This afternoon, it suddenly seemed as if it were starting off in 2nd gear...then the OD light started flashing. Now, when you put it in 1st gear manually, or reverse, it's like it's in park. Can't push the truck or anything...put it in drive or 2nd, and it starts off slowly. Once it picks up speed, all seems well. Definitely not starting off in 1st or going into reverse at all. Have y'all seen this problem before?

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: A/C And Heater Fan Not Working Properly / No Air Comes Out On 1 - 3 Speeds

I am having an issue with my 2008 Ford Escape XLT. It seems that my A/C and Heater fan isnt working properly. Basically, air only comes out when i put the fan speed to 4. With 1-3, no air comes out. If the A/C or Heat is on, I can feel cold air or heat coming out but the actual fan isn't running. It only runs when it is set to 4. What the problem could be?

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 - Drive Lights On Dash Flashing But Seems To Run Ok?

This 2002 ford escape 3.0 xlt 4x4. on the dash you have your transmission #s laid out . the #1 seems to always be highlighted in a square. but as you move the shifter to whatever gear you want there is another square that highlights the selected gear. Also, before when you would have it in D it would flash back and forth from D to 2 just the lights not the transmission.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2005 - Flashing Theft Light On - Won't Start?

My "Theft" light on my 2005 Ford Escape is flashing and I cannot start the Escape.

1. I tried the key that I had been using successfully for the last 7 years. , car did not start, Theft light blinked. ,

2. Tried wife's dealer key, Car won't start, theft light blinks.

3. Tried various things, such as manual locking & unlocking, turning alarm beeping on/off, disconnecting battery, etc. Nothing works.

Called the dealer, they say they know nothing. Must bring car in, they say. Basically I am screwed and now must spend big bucks to take it the dealer because of Ford's software bug.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: Engine And Tranny Operate Flawlessly

I have a 2001 Escape with 119,000 miles. I am the second owner, having bought it at 59,000 miles. The engine and tranny operate flawlessly. I replaced the tires that were on it within 10k miles of buying it for I was sick of the pulsing ROWR-ROWR-ROWR-ROWR noise at highway speed.

That noise, couple with the normal Escape noise, drove me nuts. So, I bought a new set of tires, Goodyear RTs. The noise calmed down, but now the noise is back. Alignment has been fine, had it checked, but the tire tech told me "these small SUVS are murder on tires."

I am ready to get rid of it simply because of the road noise at highway speed. My wife complains about it. Compared to her '11 Accord, it sounds like a jalopy. It handles well, no shaking or shimmying.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 XLT V6 - Battery Light Randomly Comes On

I have a 2002 Escape XLT V6 4X4. I searched the issue, but others' symptoms don't seem to be quite the same as what I'm seeing. Over the last few weeks, the battery light has randomly come on and off 3 separate times:

- 1st time, light came on at highway speed for about 30 sec and went out. Didn't come back on. Was during daytime, running DRL's, radio (no amp or subs or anything like that, and heater blower on low speed.

- 2nd time was two weeks later or so. Happened at night with just headlights on at around 55mph (RPMs about 2K or so). Again, stayed on for about 30 sec and went out.

- 3rd time was about a week/week and a half later, yesterday morning. Just running DRL's and radio. Light came on, flickered, came on, and then stayed on for a couple of minutes (all at highway speed). I noticed that if I disengaged the overdrive and got the RPMs up, the light would go out. I ran it out of overdrive for about 2 minutes like that, and the light stayed out. Speed limit dropped to 40mph, and the light came back on (lower RPMs at that speed, didn't run it in low gears). Light stayed on for 30 sec - 1 minute, and then went out on its own and has since stayed off.

I took it to Advance yesterday to have it tested, and the results were that it is charging at 13.9V under no load, and 13.87V under a load. The battery tested good, but the machine said it needed to be charged (it hasn't been acting low...car starts just fine).

I'm driving it to work today to see what it does next, and then getting it tested again on my way home. Has anyone here ever had similar symptoms as above? Does this sound like bad diodes in the alternator?

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: Engine Does Rev A Bit More Before Tranny Moves To Next Gear When Accelerating

I have a 2002 3.0 Escape. All running great. I have a question about where engine load/vacuum is sensed for determining shift point? I replaced all of the dry rotted hoses in the vacuum recently when replacing intake upper & lower gaskets. since then, I've noticed the shift points aren't quite the same as before. The tubing I used was slightly smaller that the OEM, but otherwise, everything is plumbed up as before.

When accelerating, the engine does rev a bit more than before, before the tranny moves to the next gear. I can ease up on the throttle just slightly, and it'll shift up. If I'm not accelerating hard, it seems to shift fairly normal. Going up slight grades it doesn't want to shift as soon as it should, but on level ground it shifts fairly normal under light load. Going down grade it shifts quickly, as one would expect. This is why I felt it might be somehow related to engine vacuum.

Is there an sensor somewhere, a restrictor in the vacuum tubing, or a vacuum modulator I might look at? I've double checked the vacuum tubing and found no leaks.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2004 - Tranny Fluid Coming Out Of Dipstick Hole?

Having issues with transmission fluid spewing out the dipstick hole? Truck is an 04 Escape and has worked great until I had a rear manifold leaking. I took the truck to our mechanic and he replaced the rear manifold cat converter. He broke 3 of the 4 bolts so he told me he had to roll the engine forward to gain access to tap out the broken bolts. Im sure he took the throttle body and intake off for more room. I Got the truck back and noticed transmission fluid all over my driveway the next day. I contacted the mechanic and he states it was nothing he did and cannot figure why this is happening. Basically told me to fly a kite!

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 - OD Light Blinking - Won't Drive In Gear?

We bought a new 2002 Escape 4WD and it has been great. Just clicked 130k. However, yesterday my wife said the car clunked when putting in reverse, and then the OD light started blinking. Shortly after that the Escape would not drive in gear, just a spinning noise. After the car was shut off for a few, it would drive again, but not very far. Fluid is good, and it will only drive for a while. I noticed a broken vacuum line coming from the trans, but could't tell where it went.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 - OD Light Started To Come - Got Code P1744?

2002 Ford Escape... My OD light started to come on every once in a while, and would go off once I turned the car off... This being said, as far as I could tell, the tranny was running smooth. Then an engine light popped on and this code and explanation come up... P1744 "Torque Converter Clutch System Stuck in OFF position".

I recently came back from a bit of a trip... and after shutting the car off, it didn't want to restart. Since this time, the car has begun to start, but the engine light remains on with the P1744 coming up...

Research seems to indicate that the problem is with the Torque Converter Solenoid. You Tube videos show that there are two solenoids just under the transmission pan...

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2006 - ECM Communication Won't Working?

I am working on a 2006 Escape that originally came in with a misfire. It had three bad coils, and they had burned out three of the coil drivers in the computer. It had a new computer put in, but will not communicate with the scanner now to program the keys. The old computer would still communicate, and the vehicle can be started and run on three cylinders with that computer, but unfortunately it needs to run a bit better than that. Is there something I am missing about getting communication with a new computer?

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2015 - Nothing On Dash Working?

My wife just picked up the 2015 Escape 3 weeks ago. This is now the 3rd time back to the dealership with it where nothig on the dash is working. No information center, no speedometer, no tach, no fuel gauge, no temp gauge, and even the entire media screen is powerless. So in turn, a lot of the temp controls and radio are gone.

The first time was on a weekend, I pulled the fuse that powers the entire dash to check it, it was fine and upon putting it back in, everything worked. Still had it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The 2nd time was this past weekend, we decided to leave it so the service team could see what we were talking about. They again, reset the fuse (still wasn't blown), tightened a couple connections, but really couldn't find anything wrong with it.

The 3rd time was just this morning and the vehicle is currently with Ford now. Obviously warrantied, but did their dealership find what the issue was? We really love the Escape, when everything works right.

Prius (2004-09) :: Hybrid System Isn't Working Properly

I have a 2004 bought in 2003. It recently logged its first 100k miles. My problem with it is not easy to describe. It is actually running more like a non-hybrid car. I can feel and tell the hybrid system is operational, and I can hear the electric motor whine when coasting, down, etc. However, I don't think it is running as it should or as it used to. It happened on highway while cruising about 70 mph. I hit the accelerator to pass someone, and I felt that something changed. I'll try to describe it: think of a half-clogged pipe. The water can barely gets past the obstruction. You keep applying pressure, and suddenly the clog dissolves under pressure, and water begins to flow freely, and the pressure goes down. So it felt like that. Now the accelerator pedal is lighter, car is faster to respond, yet I think something is wrong because the car isn't itself anymore.

I don't like problems like these because they are very difficult to diagnose, let alone fix. For a while I also have not heard the inverter pump whine after shutting the car off as I did in the past, but the last time I got out of the car today I heard it. I believe it was replaced five years ago after a collision with a Trailblazer wiped out half of the front end ( but with no power train damage). I checked the VIN for the inverter pump campaign, but my VIN was not in the range.

Right now my problem is that the car feels a lot faster than it has ever been. When I lift off the accelerator, it doesn't begin to coast as it used to. No warning light of any kind out of the ordinary is present on the dash, although it did have the red triangle on during start up with a message about the parking gear not being engaged properly. That warning went away after the change in performance occurred. Related?

I guess I will take it to the dealer to see if there are any codes stored. After my 30 mile commute this morning, no whining, buzzing or any kind of noise was present after I shut off the car and I got out. There is still no warning light.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2001 - Cruise Control Not Working

The cruise control has not worked on my 2001 escape since i bought it a few weeks back. i checked the usual culprits and everything is good. i plugged my scanner in and got a control module code.

c1945- park switch indicates park with vehicle moving.

I did do some live data testing and it does infact show park when in gear. the display on the dash shows the proper position.

I am almost certain this is the issue with my cruise. Where this sensor is? Doing a parts lookup isn't showing much.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2010 - A/C Not Working - Compressor Won't Start

She has a 2010 Escape 4-cyl and the A/C isn't working. It's miserable hot and she has small kids.

The compressor won't start. I put a gage set on the low pressure side and it's sky high, so it should be coming on at least. I also used a Launch scan tool on the OBD port and the HVAC control is commanding the compressor to start, so it's not that - which leaves the $300 compressor or the $9 a/c relay as the next steps. Unfortunately, I only see this car occasionally so I haven't really been able to get under it to check for voltage at the a/c compressor or see if it's a ground issue, etc.

I'd like to go after the relay next but can't find a a diagram I trust as to which one it is. I've heard mention that it's the WOT relay and also that there's an A/C Clutch relay. Any reliable schematic of the underhood fuse block and which position it's in? I took the cover off and they're numbered but there's no map. Also, what p/n is the relay? I'd like to just pop in a new one and see if it takes care of it.
