I had a reputable repair shop briefly check out the cruise control on my Aerostar cargo van. They said it is not because of a vacuum leak. What is most likely the problem?

View 6 RepliesMy speedometer, odometer & cruise control quit working and I think the transmission overdrive is also not working on my 95' Aerostar 2wd, 3.0L engine. I replaced the speed sensor that sits above the rear differential, but that didn't work. Wondering if something needs to be reset?
View 3 RepliesWhen I had my heads replaced, the mechanic informed me that my cruise control cable was broken. News to me. It worked fine before. He said he couldn't find a replacement. I went to my local Ford parts dept. and they told me it was a discontinued item.
So I went online and ordered one from Direct Ford Parts and it did not match. The part number was FMC-F49Z9A825JA. In the parts catalog it says it fits 92-97. Not even close. The one I have has a screw off top and the one sent has a bolt on housing.

I'm at my wit's end trying to install cruise control in my 2009 Corolla. I thought it was a relatively easy install, but then after putting the airbag in place, I find that the horn no longer works. I test out the cruise control, and the green "Cruise" lights up on the dashboard..but it doesn't actually work.
View 9 RepliesJust got my first X(and Ford) a couple days ago. Anyways, the cruise control doesn't work. I checked the CC switch on the master and it tested fine and I installed new switches on the steering wheel.
When I do the self diagnostic test with the steering wheel switches they all test fine, and on the last button(set) it lights up, but no other flashes. What does that mean? In 1 thread it stats that 0 flashes is the speed control servo.

View 6 RepliesI own a 2013 C-Max hybrid and I notice that during long drives if i engage the cruise control, I don't get as many EV miles as I do when I have my foot on the gas pedal and take it off when i have reached my desired speed. Does EV mode not work in cruise control? My feet start to ache a bit with constantly having to press and release the gas pedal just so that I can generate some EV miles.
View 3 RepliesOn my in laws 2000 explorer the cruise control does not work. When driving and activating the cruise control (on, then set), the cruise-control dash light comes on for a fraction of a second and goes off again. Tried it at freeway speeds.
Any clue ? I heard there is a separate brake switch for the cruise control and one for the brake lights. The brake lights operate normal. Could it be the other switch ? If so where is this switch ? Under the dash or under the hood ?
Ok replaced the front brakes, tie rod ends, and all ball joints today. Also flushed old brake fluid and replaced with new. Now my cruise control does not work. Light on the dash momentarily flashes when I try to set the speed. I have checked all the fuses and the connections and everything appears normal.

I recently got an Escape and I am having a issue with the cruise control. That being, it doesn't work. The control module under the hood is all hooked up, the linkage the the throttle body and all. No broken cables.
The brake lights work as intended, and only when the brake is applied. On the inside, the dash-light cruise indicator works fine.
I ran the diagnostic by holding the off button and turning the key on. The cruise light flashes and I begin the sequence. I noticed I was pushing the brake out of habit while running the first few tests. They all returned 2 flashes upon completion of the diagnostic. All other buttons were registered.
Now the strange part, when I took my foot off the brake and did the same test, the final result is three flashes of the cruise light. I understand these flashes represent a fault, and I am having a hard time as I cannot find one.
What do these results mean? I'm thinking the brake being applied gives a fault surrounding the fact that cruise is disabled when the brake is applied.
New problem with my 99 f-250 superduty supercab 4x4. Cruise control does not work. Checked all fuses and all are good. No cruise light or speed cont light . Where do I start? What do I need to look for? Where do I look?
View 4 RepliesI am normally on the super duty side but I have a 2002 ranger 3.0 auto EX cab if that matters with this issue. My cruse control will only come on rarely but when i does it works fine. Most of the time when I hit the ON button the indicator only blinks like a "relay" of some sort is not latching up. Don't know if this is an all solid state system or if there are electro mechanical relays involved as well. When it does work and I hit the brakes it will drop out completely rather than just disconnect from the controller and need to hit the ON button again, usually with no results.
View 8 RepliesJust picked up a 99 F-350 V-10 today. Decently clean, works well. It'll be an occasional tow vehicle for hauling my car to car shows.
Anyhow, on the way home, I couldn't get the cruise control to work. I've read about the brake pressure switch problem before joining today. I can hit the on button and set it, and the cruise indicator lights up in the dash and will stay on, but will not hold the speed.
From what I've read, I can't seem to determine if the brake pressure switch will allow the light to come on or not. Should I be looking elsewhere for the problem?
Next fix - overhead console. That one seems simple.
In 1970 I bought one of the first Chevrolet Blazers. I drove it until two years ago when it finally was just too worn out to drive, at close to 300K miles. I sold it to someone who is in the process of restoring it for show. I knew that I wanted an other 2 door Blazer, but they quit making them in 1995. After a long search I purchased an original 86K miles on a 2 door 1996 GMC Yukon SLE. I love this car.However, I have just experienced my first mechanical failure. I am a fairly good shade tree mechanic. At 70 years old I have worked on every vehicle I have ever owned. So I am trying to figure out what has gone wrong with the cruise control. On a return trip from our lake house in Kansas (yes, there are lakes in Kansas) to my home in Nebraska, as I was going up and down the rolling prairie hills, the cruise control started having trouble going up the inclines. Then it quit working altogether. I checked the fuses and they are ok. My next thought is the control unit has quit working. I looked for a replacement unit and saw the price.... Is there something else that I could check before I replace the control unit? Is there any way that I can verify the control unit is at fault
View 1 RepliesIve had my Camry since around September of last year. It had between 100-110k miles at the time of purchase.
In the last 3 months, Ive started to notice that sometimes when I am on the road & switch on the cruise control, the setting appears to have trouble engaging. On some occasions the cruise control does not even switch on at all when I hit the "set" button, while at other times I can feel the setting turn on and off intermittently, while I feel the engine respond accordingly with more or less gas with each time it goes on and off.I can also see the cruise control light on my dashboard begin to flash on and off each time this happens.
This does not happen every time I drive, but I must say Ive never seen anything like this before in any other car Ive ever had, and I find whats happening here to be both very strange as well as very annoying.
I bought a 2002 Excursion 2wd V10 at an auction with 105,000 miles. I've been working through the little problems and I'm down to one last small item.
The cruise control will not work. I found a thread to diagnose the problem. My diagnosis is:
After doing the self test I received: 3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.
What does this represent and what shall I do to correct it?
I am stymied by a weird Cruise Control problem on a 2001 F150 Lariat SuperCrew with 5.4L V8 engine that I just purchased. Long story short, the cruise control does not work. That is, when I push the "On" button at any time while the engine is running (even when traveling at highway speed), the dashboard CRUISE light does not come on.
I ran the cruise control "self check" procedure. The first time I ran it, we failed with 3 flashes. So I checked the cutout switch on the brake master cylinder, and it was indeed leaking brake fluid. So I purchased a new switch and cable (Motorcraft SW-6350 Speed Sensor Switch Repair Kit) and installed them.
With the new cutout switch, we seem to pass the self test. That is, after pressing all the buttons in order , I see all the quick flashes of the CRUISE light
(1. On (flash), 2. Resume (flash) 3. Coast (flash), 4. Set/ accel (flash)). Then the accelerator pedal is pulled away from my foot.
However, unfortunately, the cruise control still does not work. That is, when I push the "On' button at any time while the engine is running (even when traveling at highway speed), the dashboard CRUISE light does not come on. What to look at next? I note that horn works, in case that's useful info.
