Ford Aerostar :: 1986 - Noisy Rear End - Interchange

Nov 23, 2011

I have an '86 Aerostar with a noisy rear end. I've had it checked by both my mechanic, and a transmission shop, and they both say it's the differential, not the wheel bearings. The quote to rebuild is expensive, so I'm looking for a replacement. My question is: What years will interchange with my 2.3, 5-speed '86 Aerostar?

Ford - Explorer :: 1999 V8 - Rear End Going Out - Interchange?

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer AWD with a 5.0 L V-8. My rear end is going out. Will a rear end out of a 1997 or 1998 Ford Explorer AWD be a correct interchange? How about out of a 2000 Explorer AWD? Does it matter if the rear end comes from a 6 cyl or 8 cyl Explorer? Forgot to mention that my Explorer has Air-Ride suspension. Does that make a difference? Where can I find my axle ratio to make sure the swap is going to be OK? What steps I need to take to make sure I am doing the swap correctly...

Ford Aerostar :: 1986 - Won't Idle - Loss Of Power - No CEL

Ok .. here is my problem 86 Aerostar up until 3 days ago ran perfectly. plenty of power, idled great no misses, well the other day i washed her up, inside and out. 1sr time in almost a year (gross) so under the hood i see that the air ducts were kind of loose, so i tightened up the clamps. and later drove to the store and low and behold she won't idle and she surging, forward to today i drove to Wrigley auto store and barely made it. connected to their hand-held scan tool and performed the KOEO test and got a undefinable code referring me to a website i then performed the koer test and it would NOT complete the diagnostic for whatever reason, i again performed the KOEO test and it gave me a 22 MAP sensor and O out of range. I could not locate the mass air flow sensor, as everything i read the past 2 days pointed me in that direction. I picked up some cleaner to take off the throttle body and TPS and IAC to clean them 2 parts. am doing that now .. i will return with my results from that shortly ... What/ where this MAP sensor i believe the Chilton manual says that the areostar has the MAF sensor but again i could not locate it

Ford Aerostar :: 1986 - No Power / Idle Is Slow And A Bit Rough

1986 3.0 liter. I have a problem, concerning no power. The van starts and idle is slow and a bit rough. Something is not allowing the engine to spool up much past an idle, thus moving past 10 mph is not an option. When you try to rev it, it's like it's either starved of fuel or the ignition advance isn't working. As it is basically winter, with a temperature today of about 25F or less, it was suspected that I'd put in bad fuel (as in, containing water) and possibly the system is partially froze.

When I turn on the key, I can hear the fuel pump pressurize and then shut down, as it normally does. Gas line antifreeze was added but no change; we limped the vehicle at 15 miles or less for almost 2 hours. Likely if the fuel system had ice in it, it would've cleared out by then. As it happened on the road, I'm at the mercy of a shop of which/whom I do not know. Would it be advisable to instruct the mechanic to check for fuel at the "Schneider" or fuel pressure release value, located near the manifold?

Ford Aerostar :: 1986 - Shifter Is Sloppy / Often Hard To Find 4th When Downshifting From 5th

I have an '86 Aerostar with the 2.3 four and 5-speed stick. The shifter is sloppy, and it's often hard to find 4th when downshifting from 5th, and sometimes, it shifts hard through all the gears. Other times, it works fine. The manual says that this shifter was used from 86 to 89 only. Did they use the same one on Rangers? Can I buy a rebuild kit? Or, is this a sign of some other problem such as the clutch slave cylinder?

Ford - Explorer :: 1998 - Engine Swap - Sensor Interchange?

What is the difference between the 2 wire & 3 wire cam sensors. I am installing a 98 4.0 in my nephews Explorer-engine build date of 12/98. The replacement engine build date of 5/98. There have been quite a few differences during this process and thought I had them worked out but the old engine had a 3 wire cam sensor and the replacement has a 2 wire. I have already changed the harness over due to other differences but my main question is will I have to swap the synchronizer or will the sensors interchange? The synchronizes look different as does the cam sensor.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rear Suspension Is So Loud And Noisy

1998 4X4. My rear suspension is so loud and noisy it's driving me crazy. I've soaked the thing many times with wd40 but it doesnt seem to work or work not more than a day or two.

I've tried to make a pic with my phone because I think at the rear side of the leafs they are separating way too much... I've got no more than about 150lbs and a LPG-tank on my bed...

Moreover I think my truck rides bad. I know it's no Cadillac and I'm running 33s and its a 4x4 BUT I've got quite new Rancho shocks and the whole front suspension is in good shape and it got an alignment a month ago...

So what do you think, after 181.000mls time to get new rear leafs or take the old ones apart, free them from the rust, paint & grease them and put them back together?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rattle When Going Over Uneven Roads / Rear Disc Brakes Noisy

I've had this "rattle" when going over uneven roads for about the past few months and I think I narrowed it down to the rear calipers. They are both tight, but it seems as though the "floating" ability of the caliper is loose.....does that make any sense? I mean you can grab the caliper and it'll make a rattling noise, but the bolts are tight..

Volvo :: Rear Doors On 1986 Wagon Won't Unlock

One of the rear doors on my 86 wagon won't unlock. The lock button goes up and down, both manually and automatically, but the door won't open and it feels as though it is still locked. I'd rather not cut a hole in the door panel! Perhaps I should have a locksmith get the door open and then I should remove the door panel to lube the locking mechanism? Is there any way to lube things without removing the door panel or consulting a locksmith? I can roll the window up and down.

Ford Aerostar :: Rubber Falling Off Rear Spring

I noticed something hanging from the rear suspension / passenger side, and took a look.

two pieces of some rubber / neoprene-looking stuff were hanging, it seems they are part of some rubber spring "isolator" at the top of the spring??

is this "isolator" a replaceable part? I've been hearing a noise at the rear and now I know where it is coming from. Here's a picture of what fell off:
