Ford A/C :: Heater Fan Only Operate On High Speed
Aug 27, 2009
Just replaced my heater resistor as the fan would only operate on high speed. Now I have the fan blowing in all positions however there only appears to be 3 speeds Is that correct even though there are 4 positions. One speed at LO a higher speed on the next 2 positions (sounds the same) and then the highest speed on HI. Need to confirm if this is correct or could I have a faulty resistor.

I have a 2000 f-150 4x4 that has only high fan speed for a/c heater. Speeds 1-2-3- no longer exist. Is it a switch or a control module? Also, the door code for the rear differential is 19; is that limited slip?

I have a 2002 B5.5 Passat sedan. 140K.
Inside my passat, when I run my heater on #1 speed setting there is a high pitched squeak but it goes away on the #2 speed setting. It hasn't been a constant annoyance but enough to want me to fix it now. [URL]....................

Do I have to pull out the complete switch assembly, or could it be some thing else?

2002 Dodge Ram 3500 van (engine unknown, but I think it doesn't matter). Blower operate only at highest speed setting. OK, that's the classic symptom of a failed resistor. Replacements are readily available at chain parts stores.
Where is the resistor located? This video shows me for a 2002 Ram 1500 van. Will it be the same on the 3500?
I've learned here that sometimes resistor failure results from bearings going bad in the blower, causing excessive current draw. Is there a way to test that other than with an ammeter? What's the correct current?
2a. If the blower motor is going bad, is that something we'll be able to replace ourselves? (Yes, I should tell them to get a Haynes or Chilton.) I don't like the idea of taking off dashboard panels.
2b. Is there any other "prime cause" I should look for if the blower motor seems OK?
Are there any other parts (other than the switch) whose failure would also give that symptom?

I have a 2004 F-150 SCrew Lariat 4X4 with 80K miles. Over the past month or so, every once in awhile there would be a loud metallic "clacking" sound (kind of like sticking a peice of aluminum in a bike's spokes) that would start at higher speeds and would turn into a low pitched whirring gear sound as I slowed down and eventually there would be a thud followed by a sensation of running over a small bump and the noise would be gone. Kind of confusing I know, but that is the best way to describe it. My gut feeling is a wheel bearing or transmission problem....

I am having overheating problems at high speed/high rpm/under load. The only codes ive gotten are EGR dpfe (0401). Truck is 99 f250 with the 6.8 new egr valve, dpfe, new coolant, new thermo, new sensor under manifold. I blew 90 lbs air pressure thru the egr lines, big and small, they were clear.
So whats left? I never hear my fan clutch......should I? I've had other trucks and the fan roared when first started for a few seconds, and then again when you were hot...they really roared.
Is it possible for the egr port where it goes into the throttle body to be plugged? guess I should've checked that when I had the egr off. Would an aux. fan be a waste of time?
This is pulling a 3500 lb camper trailer up moderate hills.

My 2010 f150 Ford 5.4 liter Extended Cab Pickup Heater Fan has a mind of it's own. It is on high and will not go down or off. The icon works, looking like the fan is increasing or decreasing, but it does not. Is there a quick fix for this problem. I watched a YouTube on the problem maybe being the Blower Motor Resistor Control. If this is right, what is the procedure to fix the problem?

My '99 F150 suddenly lost all interior heater/ac fan control settings except for Hi. Is it the switch or something else in the circuit?

Very strange things happening with 2009 F350 Gas, first the heater blower only is now working on high, progressively has gotten worse, low settings started not working a while ago, now only high works. Just recently the strangest thing, start the truck OK, turn on radio OK, turn lights on then the radio goes off. Will bring it to dealer in a day or two if I can't figure this one out.

I have a 2006 f250 and the heater will blow cold air unless you are driving in like highway conditions. If you stop or drive slow it blows cold air only. What is causing this???

My gf's 2005 passat is not blowing any hot air out when the heater is set on high. yes, she did turn it on and yes she does know how to work the climatronic. I've noticed over the last couple of months that the passat was not blowing really hot air out like it use 2.
now it's just blowing cold air.
what would cause this?
I am assuming and HOPING that its just an air bubble in the coolant system.
IF not maybe the heater core is going bad or clogged? is there a way to fix this?

I had an intermittent heater blower problem for a few years. Yesterday it turned into a full time heater blower problem. I unplugged the connector to the fan motor, and ran a power feed and ground to the fan motor terminals. It blows strong! I located the low speed relay under the glove box. I switched it with the adjacent horn relay, like was suggested. No go! What else can it be?

My heater will blow hot when the fan speed is set to the lower two speeds but when I put the fan on the higher speeds the heat starts to turn cold almost right away, but when I put it back to low it gets hot again. It doesn't matter whether the button for the recirculate mode is on or off, defrost or whatever. WWhat is the cause of this? This is on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD truck.

I have a high speed vibration from 58+ ... 4x4 drivers rear cvjoint bad? The U joints are good, I had the Diff rebuilt due to bad bearing about 1000 miles ago. I guessing its the Cv joint do to grease is all over around the joint. How does one check the cv joint?

I recently hear some light noise from AC/heater fan at lowest setting (1) - its like the faint motor noise you might hear in spinning motors (sort of like ticking but not quite). I don't recall hearing it before. At higher speeds like 2+ you hear air blowing out which overpowers any faint noise you might hear. Noticed this while using for heat setting. Haven't tried for AC as its winter now.
So I was wondering if this faint noise is anything to be alert/concerned about in terms of operation of my AC/heat fan. Would hate for it to die on me one day when I need heat/AC.
Car model is Suzuki Forenza 2006, not that it matters I assume.

I have a 1996 explorer that started making a high speed spinning sound when you let off the accelerator at 30 mph or above. If you put it neutral the spinning sound will go away, or if you press on the accelerator. I thought maybe the torque converter, but a transmission mechanic said probably not, I'm still not convinced. He thought maybe the transfer case.

I have a 2012 F350 I keep the hubs in auto all the time. In the winter I just flip the switch to 4 high when I hit snow conditions. I know to shift in or out I need to be below 55mph. How fast can I safely drive in 4 high on the interstate? I drive hundreds of miles at a time in the winter. Some times if the roads clear I will cruise at 70-80mph. This is a question of mechanical safety on truck components not driving safety.

My son just purchased a 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3l 5 speed it is a nice little truck. But I have a question when you press in the clutch it acts like the choke has come on it idles way to high. When you come to a complete stop it is a few minutes before it goes back to its regular idle. Is it suppose to do that?

If we have the air on a medium or high setting (A/C or just vent air) and coming out of the middle vents (at your face in other words), then turn the car off with the fan speed on that medium to high setting, then turn the car on later, the air comes out of the defroster (windshield) instead, even though the middle (face) setting is selected.
I have to turn the air fan speed right down to the lowest setting, then the air switches to the vents (face), and I can then turn the fan speed back up again. Its like it has a weak flap or something in the dash that diverts the air around. Car is an 03 6.0l limited with the "climate control" (the buttons and digital display).
