Ford A/C :: 1999 Expedition - Blowing Hot Air
Mar 1, 2014
The AC was blowing hot air. But then we noticed that we could hear a flap closing. So the game has been, to keep it cold, to stop somewhat abruptly, then turn on the AC, then DO NOT accelerate quickly or you will hear the "shut" which makes the air turn hot.
Now, I have gone to auto zone and bought two things: Air Door Actutator, and Blend Door Repair Kit, both supposed to be for 1999 Expedition. I don't yet know which I need. I am looking to do the fix through the glove compartment which I understand is possible, although no one mentioned it here back in 2004.

Last week my 99 Expedition w/ 130,000 miles overheated. Air stopped blowing cold, then blew REALLY cold momentarily, Temp. went to high, check engine light on, car wouldn't accelerate. Was a block from home - put it in neutral and got home. Let it cool down. Checked all fluids, etc. Took it to our family mechanic - been our mechanic for 5 years - could find nothing obviously wrong so he cleared the code. Car ran fine for a week then temp started to rise again yesterday. Only common thread...the rear air was on both times. Once we were highway driving, other time in stop/go traffic. Replaced the thermostat last year.

On my 2000 E.B. I have NO A/C at all. All vents on the dash, regardless of vent, floor, defrost, ETC all blow hot air, even with the A/C on Max A/C. Also, all the rear vents for the rear HVC blow WARM air as well. I have no A/C in the back either. I don't hear any flopping around under the dash going down the road and I have checked the A/C compressor with the unit on Max A/C and the clutch appears to be engaged and the compressor appears to be operating normally.
I have NOT YET checked the A/C lines or dryer to see if they get cold, I will check that tonight, but I expect them to be getting cold because the Compressor does not cycle on and off, it stays running pretty much all the time. It clicks off once and again, but not very often at all (such as the case would be if the system was low on freon).
So, if the A/C lines are getting cold (if they are not, I will know my problem is compressor related, likely anyway), what this problem could be? From what I've read, if the Front blows hot, yet the rear blows cold, it's a blend door actuator or broken blend door, but that is not my problem. I have no A/C at all, everything blows hot.

I have a 2001 Ford Expedition with the 5.4L engine. I know that there are problems with the engines blowing out spark plugs. Besides putting in sleeves and replacing the cover when necessary, any good luck with a different alternative. If not what products with the above options seem to give you the most bang for your buck.

This fuse controls the interior lights, power windows, and the brake pedal shifter release. I noticed the problem when the vehicle would not shift out of park.
I replaced #15 fuse (5amp) and everything worked fine however several hours later with the vehicle simply parked the fuse blew again.
Appears to be a "short" of some kind but it seems to take several hours for the fuse to blow.

I bought a used 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer about 2 years ago. It has been a great truck until recently. The A/C system now only has hot air in the front. I can still get cold air in the back.
The truck has the EATC and I ran a diagnostics check and no faults were reported. Additionally, I can push the buttons on the control module and all the air comes out in the correct positions. The only fault is the lack of cold air.
I have seen bunches of threads about Blend Door failures. I reviewed "lvmilkman2002" thread on the blend door motor. However, on my Expedition when I removed what he detailed it appears to be a blower motor and not a Blend Door Motor. I reviwed the other threads and the actuator that is talked about that you can access from behind the glovebox is also not there.
Where can this actuator be located and how can you check it for operation!!! I am going to attempt this repair this Friday while I have a long holiday weekend.

129k miles, first time ever noticed a/c compressor not engaging -- hadn't tried a/c in a few months, winter and all... Jumpered the cycle switch and determined it was low pressure situation -- took to dealer, who recharged/diagnosed leak situation. Compressor oil leak at front seal (needs replacement) and refrigerant leak at manifold hose assembly.
However - compressor running nice and quiet, after recharge, no problems, silent operation. Couple questions:
1. Ford manual says no need to replace accumulator unless there is evidence of compressor failure (which mine hasn't yet) -- is that 'evidence' trash in the orifice tube? If so, where precisely is it? I know it's in one of the tube assemblies, but can't visualize the location from the diagrams.
2. Since my compressor hadn't failed, still running quiet/smooth, can I just replace that and the leaky hose assembly and be done w/it?
3. Is this a job that's beyond the moderately skilled garage mechanic? I handle most of my own jobs with exception of heavy engine (i.e., heads, etc) but have never attempted a/c-related due to the refrigerant portion of this job. I'm sure I can obtain the proper vacuum equipment somehow, if it's something that's not too overly complicated...

I just replaced my fuel pump and sending unit in my 1999 Expedition and my truck still wont start.
Relays and fuses are all good.
Fuel safety shut off is not switched.
What the problem is?

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition with 163,000 miles. The vehicle registers a service code of P0171 and/or P0174, lean mixture. The vehicle starts fine, but may stall or hesitate when first started or at red lights. While driving, there is no issue.
I just replaced the MAF sensor and the EGR sensor, but no change in the condition. In 2007 or 50K miles ago, the oxygen sensors were replaced. What could be the problem or solution?

I have a 199 Ford Expedition that started shuddering several months ago. The shudder was the most pronounced when braking, but was also pretty bad when accelerating and letting off the accelerator.I took it to a Nationally recognized service center. They charged me over $1,200 to replace everything associated with my brakes, but the shudder, (although no longer so pronounced when braking), was still there.Their best guess was the āUā joints, but since they had just a little play in them, they weren't sure that that would cause so much shudder.I took it to a Ford dealer. They had it for 3 days, and charged me $366 for a diagnosis that I had 3 different brand name tires, and the All Wheel Drive was having difficulty keeping the wheels in sync. The problem seems to be most pronounced when letting up on the accelerator Also pronounced when accelerating, not as much so as when letting off the accelerator, but when cruising steadily with my foot on the accelerator, it nearly goes away.

1999 ford expedition 5.4L ....I have been hearing a loudish (I can hear it in the cab) humming noise coming from the engine bay. I don't hear it when the truck is cold (1 to 5 minutes after starting), seems to get louder at it its peak (the more I drive). When i open the hood, the humming is coming from the intake. I am a pretty handy guy, just at my witts end right now....not sure, but I was thinking brake booster?

My wife drives a 99 ford expedition, 5.4, auto, 4x4, Sunday I am driving it and it wont upshift from 1st to 2nd unless I let off the gas or let it run up to 4000rpm. I have cel and blinking OD off light. I pulled the code and got a p0755 shift solenoid b. That is really the only symptom, the other shifts seem fine.
1st question, which transmission do I have? I believe it to be the 4r100, the pan has a "notch" in it. Looks like this... Fel-Pro TOS18714 - Automatic Transmission Gasket | O'Reilly Auto Parts
2nd question, if it is the 4r100 is there just a solenoid "pack" and not individual solenoids to replace? I found these...PowerTorque- TE140 - Solenoid | O'Reilly Auto Parts
PowerTorque - TE141 - Solenoid | O'Reilly Auto Parts
3rd question, what is the difference between the pwm and non pwm?

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition. A couple of days ago The engine started losing coolant as soon as the engine cooled. I replaced the coolant only to lose it again when the engine cooled. I was told that it is more likely the intake manifold gaskets leaking. It seems they are right. What is the cost to repair if I take it to a mechanic?

Shortly after I bought my "99 Expedition, the 4x4 light on the dash began flashing. The vehicle is in standard all wheel drive, and had not recently been in 4 wheel. Now, it will go into 4 wheel, light stays steady, the 4 wheel drive is working, but when I disengage it, the light returns flashing when in all wheel drive. In other words, the 4x4 light flashes when in all wheel drive, the light stays on when in 4 wheel drive. I don't think the light should be on unless the 4 wheel drive is on. What do you think could be wrong with the soccer wagon?

Not sure if it's transmission issues, on the road it took me to a neighbor city with no issues, but on my way back, while running it went from 70mph to 57-60mph and it won't let me go faster, it will not rev up more than 2000rpms, if i step further on the gas it will struggle to rev up, it will, but speed won't go faster, engine just had been rebuilt, it has no catalytic converters. I live in mexico, instead it has 2 "silencers" which were just installed as well since it was making a lot of noise through the exhaust.
Been driving it in the city, (no more than 35mph) with no problems at all, all gears feel great, but haven't tried to go up to 60mph again. Expedition XLT 1998 4x4 ....

When my 1999 Ford Expedition is turned off and sitting there, even for hours, the defrosting fan comes on by itself. I can feel cold air coming through the vents inside the car. The fan will turn off if I turn on the key or even if I step on the brake pedal, with the car still off. It won't stay off until I disconnect the battery. It seems to occur only when the temperature drops, like below freezing (coincidence??).
The other day, I left the fan running for several hours, it never turned off, I then disconnected the battery. It ran the battery down. Randomly/intermittently the dashboard clock, windshield wiper, or radio won't work when the car is running. I recently bought a new battery . I recently replaced the outside mirrors. Also, the passenger side window won't go up or down using the passenger side control but will using the drivers side control.

I have a 2006 Ford Expedition that runs perfectly with one exception, It will shut off all of a sudden. I can be driving down the highway or in town and all of a sudden it will just stop running. This has happened twice in the past six months. So far I have been able to get to the side of the road safely.the vehicle will immediately start and run perfectly as if nothing has happened. No error codes.

I just bought a used 2008 Expedition XLT and the rear ac was working on the first day of ownership. On the next day it worked on way to the park but on the way back the rear ac didn't come on. I have tried both the front a rear controls. I can hear a single click sound coming from the rear of the truck (blower area) when I switch the AC on and as I click though the speeds but no air flow or sound form the motor itself. The front AC is working fine but I am not sure where to start trouble shooting the rear ac issue. I have found other issues complaining about clicking sounds and bad actuator but could this be the issue if I am only here a single click.

So I just got myself an 03 Eddie Bauer 5.4 Expedition.
It's been sitting for at least 2 years and the exterior is in great condition. Other than tires, spark plugs, oil change, antifreeze, and possible tranny fluid change, what else should I look into replacing / fixing?
I bought this vehicle to be used as a daily driver and sit on the weekends, but I'm not sure how neglected it is, I bought if off some close relatives who really never used it. It has 180k miles roughly and like I said, it's been sitting for 2 years.
I've done a fair amount of research on oil/fuel additives like Seafoam, Marvel Mystery Oil, Lucas, etc. A lot of mixed opinions on it, and it seems to be a case by case kinda thing.
I just want this vehicle to last and run well. I'll do anything recommended to make sure it's running well
