I have a '90 F150 without A/C. For some reason the healing system is stuck on defrost. No matter where I turn the selector switch ( floor, vent, etc) air only comes out the defrost. If I turn it to "off" it will turn off. What is wrong?
View 2 RepliesMy windows do not defrost. Blows hot air and seems to blow out defrost vents ok. When I bought the truck last winter no problem untiL A /C would not cool cab in summer. Now it's winter and no defrost.. I have takin into dealer and they said compressor is kicking on ok but still no moisture leaves the cab. It is dry here in Kansas so when we get rain I will have to sponge the windows.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2003 Model F150 4x4 that has always ran good for me, and has only had minor issues ever since I've had it. Not too bad considering it has 266,xxx miles on it and running 100 miles a day on the original motor & transmission.
Here's my problem - my air conditioning will only blow thru the defrost. I can hit vent on the control panel and it will blow thru the vents, but if i hit max ac it switches to defrost. I live close to Memphis, and it has gotten super hot around here and i really need this to work correctly. I have looked under the hood looking for messed up vacuum lines but haven't seen any that looked bad.
1990 F150 2wd, E40AOD tranny. Will not shift past 2nd. Reverse works. Does not have compression braking. Started when pulling a empty trailer up a hill on the interstate.
View 1 RepliesMy A/C is blowing cold but only thru the defrost vents. First it was blowing normally from the dash but during acceleration or under load, the a/c would randomly blow from any vent, from the floor, dash, defrost. Now that stopped and it only blows from the defrost vents above the dash-board.
1997 F-150 XLT, 4.2 Liter, V6, manual transmission.
I just picked up a 78 F150 Ranger XLT with a 351M in it this past friday. I am absolutely in LOVE with her. She is a great solid truck. One issue I am having though is that she blows hot air out the vents over the hump but nothing is coming out the top of the dash. I am guessing that i will have to take the dash off and clean out the box check the door etc. What did you do to rectify?
View 3 RepliesWent to start "Larry", my 1990 Ford F150, the engine cranked but did not start. I switched to the other fuel tank and it started right up. The tank I normally use is the rear one and the pump had been getting noisier while it was running so I knew it would be soon to fail and it made no sounds when I checked it later to see if it would click and whir. I pulled the tank and installed a new pump. To test it I turned the key and heard the pump whir and stop. I turned the key to start and it started and died a couple ti mes. Front tank switched on and the truck started. While running I switched to rear tank and it died. So I have the pump in and it sounds like it runs up to pressure but the fuel is not moving.
Thought maybe I had fuel lines crossed but my manual seems to indicate they are two different sizes so that left me scratching my head... I have years of experience doing all my own wrenching but this is my first in-tank pump replacement. I have assisted a friend on a couple but never really wanted to pull a fuel tank and in my case this job required I remove the tow hitch set up as well. The hand pump for $9 at Harbor Freight was worth every cent as it made moving fuel to front tank a snap. So what the heck is happening? I don't see how a pump could be installed wrong, it is getting power on initial key turn...I should add the only time it did start I presume was because of fuel in the line that the front tank had supplied on previous start ups...
I have a 1990 F150 4x4 and I'm having a bit of an issue with the rubber brake line. every time my friend take it out he says the brake line is rubbing against the tire. is this possible and if so how can I fix it?

View 1 RepliesMy center brake light went out a month ago. Thought it was the bulb so replaced that, still didn't work. Checked the fuse and its not broken so my guess was electrical?
Hasn't come on once that I know of but I was randomly walking behind my truck and the light was on. Truck was off lights were off and key wasn't in the ignition.
Went and turned my truck on and turned the lights on and the cbl stayed on. When I switched my lights off it went out and stayed out.
Now I'm definitely thinking wiring but not sure where to start fixing?

I have a '90 F150 and both the yellow ABS light and the red BRAKE light are on.
It was fine until my buddy did a little brake work for me, including replacing a couple brake lines and a parking brake cable. He bled the system at the lines going into the front calipers because the bleeder valves on the calipers where corroded and frozen. I then replaced the calipers and bled the system properly. Three times. I don't think the problem is from the brake work.
The brakes still work, by the way. The pedal just feels a bit spongy and I think the brakes don't work as well as they could.
If the truck is not running, I can pump the brakes a few times, and it will make a sound like it's sucking air a few times. Then the sound stops and the pedal firms up.
If the truck IS running, it keeps making the sucking air sound no matter how many times I pump it, and the pedal feel stays the same. I think it might be a bad brake booster.
My truck is a 1990 Ford F150. It seems like when I let it sit for a few min that the gas just drains back into the tank and there for it wont start up that fast, it takes a while to get it going but when I shut it off and start it back up its like a new truck. It starts right up!!! Any tips on what might be wrong, maybe the gas cap is letting pressure out? Im 17 and my dad knows alot about trucks but he cant tell whats wrong.

View 1 RepliesI recently changed out the power boost canister for the brakes on a 1990 f-150 2wd. It was successful but now i have no cruise control. I double checked my plugs, all good. I checked my brake lights, all good. brake pedal seems fine and completely raised when not in use. i looked for a fuse and can't find it for that system, seems odd. it's not in fuse jct under dash, can't find a fuse jct under hood, seems odd also. No check engine light has lit.
View 3 RepliesI know all about vacuum leaks and such causing this problem, and I tend to think that is my problem. But isn't the temp change dial also vacuum controlled (in my case of an 06 f250 6.0) by that valve near the oil fill tube on the passenger side? I ask because, while I am stuck on defrost i can change the temp of the air that comes out still, telling me there is enough vacuum in the system to at least control that.
I also know everyone talks about checking the ESOF system for cracked lines/leaks, but this shouldn't come in to play unless I have 4WD selected or if the EFOF solenoid is bad, right? I just got done tearing the top end of this engine apart, twice, for oil temp problems and am about done working on this POS!!!

View 1 RepliesOk, I have capped off the vacuum lines to the front hubs and replaced the vacuum solenoid on the passenger inner fender. Still stuck on defrost. I know there are several options from this point what would be the next step after what I have just recently done. Going away on a ski trip and would like to have it working properly before I go.
View 14 RepliesI just picked up another 2003 XLT and I'll be taking it in for inspection on Monday. Hoping it will pass easily, but there are a couple issues I'd like to address before going in there.
First and foremost, the heat/AC system is stuck in defrost. It will turn off when the selector is moved to the OFF position, but any other position just makes the air blow out the top of the dash. I did do some research on this beforehand (the seller made me aware of it) and I first looked at the actuator. When moving between positions, the actuator does not move at all. It does appear to be connected to the vent door's arm but there's no movement when going around the dial. I do hear what seems to be a relay kick on or off as I go through the different modes, but that's it. Does this point more towards a vacuum issue?
Second, and less significant...the self-dimming rear view mirror doesn't dim. It doesn't even power on. Where might the connection go for that mirror? Would be handy to have for night driving, but not that big of a deal if it's not functioning.
I'm also going to have to get the tailpipe mounted...seems it came off at some point and the seller asked me today if I wanted it. Uh...yeah, I'm gonna need that to pass inspection!
I am liking it so far. Runs well, rides well...I will be enjoying this one as well.
My 01 SD won't blow air anywhere but through the defrost vents.
View 9 RepliesThere is always something.... I just drove my girlfriend's new 2003 ranger edge home from the seller. Real nice truck. I noticed the heater selector doesn't change the air flow. It is on full blast for the defrosters, and is also trickling out of the floor and dash vents. No matter where you put the selector, thats the only place the air comes out.
The temp control seem to work OK, when you turn it on cold, you get cold air and visa versa. Even on AC and MAx AC... air out the defrosters. It's cold when you turn the temp control to cold.
I did some searching here and gather some info on checking the vac lines etc. Everything looks in place but one detail. The vac ball under the hood under the air box has 2 ports on the front end, and only one grey line going into it. The other port has what looks like a rubber boot and part of a very short vac line broken off it.
I looked, I cant find any loose vac lines. I'd like to know if this second port is suppose to have a second line on it, and where does it go? What color is it? Is this the reason the vent selector isnt working?
My defrost is stuck no matter which way I turn the control it won't come off. It just started doing this today. I think it might be a vacuum leak. When I turn my switch on the pump still clicking whether or not it's pumping.
