I've had a persistent diesel leak its gotten worse and I've found it. Its in the valley of the V. I've attached a photo of the part its the one with the plug off it.
What it is called and maybe the part number. The gray plug under the red wire.
The truck has been a dream for several months and I had a coolant leak at the thermostat outlet. Changed the fitting and thermostat and sealed with lots of blue monkey snot. It's been perfect for a couple months but a week ago it started leaking again. Exactly the same as last time. I cleaned the mating surface of the water pump with a plastic scraper to remove the old sealer and then finished it with fine scotch brite. I looked at several parts breakdowns and none of them showed a gasket.......
View 14 RepliesThe drip pan under my 2005 X 6.0 was relatively full with coolant last week. The leak is intermittent, but persistent. After investigating, it appears to be coming from somewhere on the driver's side on the back of the engine. The coolant is running down the seam where the transmission mounts to the block, but I can't get my mirror back there to see exactly where it's coming from. It's not coming from the side of block and there's no evidence of coolant on top (in the valley).
I've only been doing "city" driving (no towing or highway trips) since before the leak began and the max ECT I've observed is around 205*, with 40-60* ambient temps. It's not overheating, but I have noticed the heater air is cool when I'm at a stoplight, suggesting the coolant level is low (I've refilled coolant once and heater worked fine afterwards).
I have not observed oil in the degas bottle, but have not yet checked the dipstick for coolant bubbles in the oil. Also, FWIW, I had to replace my degas bottle back in October after it cracked on the side. I do use ELC free, red coolant, have a coolant filter and flushed the system about 18 months ago.
Thoughts on source of coolant leak? Don't say head gasket....
I've thought I smelt diesel fuel on an off for a while, but never found the source.
Tonight, 17 degrees out I have fuel in the valley and it appears as if the back of the drain valve is wet.
A fuel bowl rebuild is on the short list. Is this typical, the cold weather brings the issue to light?
Kind of bummed my truck now leaks oil from both the front and back. It's not much volume wise - probably a pint every couple months but before I came up to Alaska it had never leaked a drop. Probably nothing I can do about it barring a rebuild. I have noticed all the guys say not to use any oil additives of any kind. Trying to get it in a shape for another epic journey back down the Alcan highway this fall. Or should I get rid of it and go for a 6.7.

Just spent $570 having bellowed up-pipes installed and while a little quieter, the tick is still there. What else tends to go out on these things? Manifold(s) cracked, manifold gasket(s)? It's seen high EGT's quite a bit but not for longer than 20-25 seconds.
So I decided to start the year with fresh oil. Like the hundreds of oil changes before, i changed the filter and added new oil. Only this time, oil started to drip off the bottom of the Oil filter at an alarming rate, only when the engine was running.
I figured the filter didn't seal well, so I repeated the oil change process. nothing changed, still leaking.
It was really cold (-10 C) when I did the oil change, I mention this in case it is a contributing consideration.
My truck is a 2000.
I'm having a problem trying to locate what I assume is an oil leak. It is on the driver side and the whole engine compartment is wet on the side up on firewall beneath the master cylinder. And the whole underneath is wet also axles and leaf spring and can't find where it's coming from. I have sprayed it down with degreaser to try to pin point the leak still no luck. Truck has 236k on it also new hpop and turbo pedestal and checked the valley and its dry. Right now I'm at a loss. I'm leaning towards oil cooler but would a leaking oil cooler cause whole side of engine compartment to be covered?
View 9 RepliesTook the torque converter cover off and this is what I see. Before I took it off the cover looked oily. Prev I replaced the EGR valve and some other sensors and there was oil on top of the engine. Does this look like a rear main seal or oil dripping from the top of the engine?
View 4 Replies02 7.3L SD Im on a long haul and think I might have bought some bad diesel. It is shuddering a little kind of like a miss. It started right after I stopped for fuel. Is this going to damage my engine to keep plugging along? Is it just going to run kind of rough until I burn up the bad fuel? Ive got about 200mi to go so just needed to know if its safe to keep driving or am I going to be stranded.
View 13 RepliesI just had my 14 350 dually in for its 10k mile service. They told me I had a oil leak somewhere on right side of my engine. They cleaned it and put some die in it, told me drive and bring back so they can put uv light on it to see where it's coming from. I haven't had time to take back yet as I just started a new job, but I've put about 900 miles on it and it's definitely got a leak! I crawled underneath today and the oil pan right beside the oil filter is wet with oil. Trying to figure out what I might be looking at.

Could those two things be related? The compression gauge shows its okay, What else could be causing the stalling? I just got a lead on a good diesel mechanic in springfield missouri (30 ) minutes from where i was today with the excursion, I don't know if i should risk a 2 hour drive back to springfield to take it to him.
I had the oil changed at a local shop last week and the tech told me the oil pan was leaking oil, but you can see on the pics I posted that that oil seems to be on hoses above the oil pan. So I don't know if the leak is coming from above or what.
My 2007 F350 CC DRW KR has developed a serious oil leak recently. The oil runs down both sides of the bell housing but seems to be worse on the passengers side. It only leaks after five or so minutes of running and not while off. I have searched literally hundreds of threads and found only one that seemed similar and the resolution was never posted.
The truck is stock with only a turbo back 4" exhaust. I initially thought of the STC fitting failing and cracking the rear engine cover, but I still have very good ICP (650 almost immediately when cranking and at idle, 3000+ when on the throttle).
I plan to pull the turbo next weekend to check the drain tube and HPOP cover as well as checking/replacing the STC fitting (since I'm in there).
Was replacing my cracked and leaking charge air cooler pipe Friday evening and noticed oil all over the place at the lower front of the engine. It has been a few months since I've been under the truck. No drips on the ground so it must be a slow leak while driving. Oil level is fine so it hasn't been leaking for long.
Any ideas from this limited two picture view? Front main seal? I've been reading the vacuum pump leaks oil as well but I'm not sure where that is other than driven by the HPFP. I took additional pictures but those were useless, it's a bit cramped in this area.
In the past ten months I've had the turbo coolant inlet pipe leak repaired and then the DEF heater failed, which means replacing the entire pump of course. The wastegate solenoid air compressor noise started some time ago as well at shutdown but I haven't been concerned about that (it doesn't seem to cause an issue). 96,000 miles.
I just see a fluid by the front passenger tire leak when the diesel is running and ac is on.There was fluid up by both aluminum lines going into a plastic canister in the engine compartment on the passenger side.I couldn't find any cracks in the hoses or aluminum lines..The plastic canister I believe is (AC ACCUMULATOR ) did have a hiss of air when I shut the truck off. I can't see where the clear liquid is coming from. Just started to leak by the front passenger tire.
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2003 F350 with the 6.0L. It had injection, EGR, and oil cooler issues. I tore into it, did the injectors, EGR delete, new oil cooler, turbo seal kit, and several other non related things. Put everything back together and when I started it, it was leaking oil at the paste of 1/2 qt and minute. I did all sorts of searching on this site and went back to work on it.
I re-installed all new gaskets and O-rings, replaced the ICP and IPR sensors. Started it back up, exact same thing. From what I can see, oil is accumulating on top of the oil cooler housing around the area the turbo oil supply connects. But, its not leaking from turbo supply, or from where the filter housing attaches. Im at a loss. Its definitely somewhere on top of the engine and running down the back, only when the engine runs.
My 2001 F350 7.3 dually diesel Automatic has been a pretty good truck but recently it has been dying. Engine just randomly shuts off without warning while Driving. Check engine light comes on sometimes. Some of the time it will restart if I cycle the key. Once its running again I can rev the engine up without a sputter but after a few hundred yards down the road it will die again. I noticed driving on the highway when it does it my truck will buck first, then...
If I leave it in drive with the key in the run position when it dies and I'm coasting down the highway the Tach starts jumping around like its trying to restart itself, all on its own. I don't have a scanner.
The last time it died I coasted into my driveway and it wouldn't restart, went back out there 30 minutes later and it fired right up. Its only 40 degrees here if that matters, not hot by any means.
Noticed oil on the underside of the engine last oil change, took to Ford dealer for repair under extended warranty. Got a call back today, stating the the oil leak is coming from a injector on the drivers side, and that the injector seals is not covered under warranty. I'm having an issue understanding that oil leaking out from around the injector is not covered under a power train warranty.
View 2 RepliesI have a 06 f250 that has a coolant leak in the front of the engine. It's was leaking about a month ago replaced the water pump it stopped. Then about 2 weeks later it started back up again. It only happens when the engine is cold. But once it warms up it starts leaking again. I am confused as all get out on this.

Where the line ties into the filter canister , there is a small plate that's attached with small Allen screws its dripping between this plate and the canister .... I assume there is a gasket/oring that is causing it ...... What is the part number or correct description so I can go to ford dealer and get one.
2007 Ford 4X4. 6.0 diesel
My 03' 6.0l hpop only makes about 1700 psi at wot, at hot idle the ipr is 25.1 and the icp is about 580. It runs pretty good but it seems the crank time to start is getting a little longer sometimes, other times it fires right up. It makes no difference if its hot or cold. Do pumps get weak or do you think I have a leak?....
