Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Code P0670 - GPCM Glow Plug Control Module Control Line Failure

Feb 25, 2014

How to fix SES P0670?? I understand there's a whole procedure on checking fault.

P0670:GPCM Glow plug control module control line failure. Open/grounded circuit, open/shorted GPCM, failed PCM

But how did you resolve problem? replaced GPCM, found open circuit, short --if so where?-- or replaced with updated harness.

(4C3Z-12B568-AA connector upgrade kit as in picture)???

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Glow Plug Control Module Function?

OK, what does a glow plug control module do? The short bus I got has one on it. It looks like it fits right into the circuit without much, if any, modification. I got one with my short bus and am curious if it would be something worth adding to my pickup. So...what does it do and could I/should I install it?

So; I bought my 07 f350 6.0 the other day. I have a light on that sends a code for glow plug control module, but the truck starts fine, the same in cold temperatures as warm, so far nothing below 32 degrees though. I dont have the code # at the moment, but will update when i get the scanner back. Why this module is throwing a red flag?

Ford Excursion :: Code P0683 - Glow Plug Control Module To PCM Comm Circuit

I have a 2002 7.3L and keep throwing a P0683 code (Glow Plug control module to PCm comm circuit). I have looked though all the Forum posts I could and it looks like the GPR, or the GPCM, or harness are at fault. I know my truck has the GPCM ... does it also have a GPR? I am not getting ANY individual GP failure codes, but the damn thing is having a hell of a time starting in the cold.

1) How do I determine if the GPCM is bad?
2) If I have a bad ground?
3) Bad connector to GPCM connection?
4) If something is wrong with the wiring harness itself

Last night I unplugged the harness from the GPCM, cleaned the connectors, added di-electric grease to improve the connections .. made no difference.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 F250 - Code P0677 / #7 Glow Plug Circuit Module

06 6.0 F250 throwing code P0677 #7 glow plug circuit module. I don't think one bad plug would cause a no start, however coupled with too much oil possibly? Swapped my oil about 500 miles ago, I put in 20qts accidentally, drained off about 3-4 qts eyeballed, truck fired up and ran fine no smoke nothing. Yesterday morning I was leaving work and moved my truck from parking space to behind the bay at my fire station, I turned the engine off.

Loaded up my gear and turned the engine to the aux position and someone was talking to me so inlet it sit for a while in the auxiliary position. Went to crank no start, turned the key off then back on and it fired. Fast forward after 7 different starts throughout the day, I'm at dinner with my son we go to leave engine will not start at all, rolls and rolls and rolls nothing. Towed her home and scratching my head. Over filled oil with a bad plug cause no start??

Egr delete, new oil cooler, cat and muffler delete, upgraded Y turbo pipe. Also have an SCII throwing codes p0677 and p0401 egr code....

I'm getting ready to change the glow plugs in my dad's e99, 196k on the clock. When I pulled the air intake tubes I found some oil in the turbo:

The inlet tube also had a bunch of gunk in it too:

Does this look like it is caused by the PCVor is it a bigger issue?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Broken Glow Plug Outer Wall

Well I just "did" the glow plugs on my recently acquired 99 7.3 and while 7 came out with no problem, one of them gave me more resistance when turning than expected and then "snap". Now here is the interesting part. What actually came out is the threaded top portion of the outer wall, while the rest of the outer wall and the electrode are still in the block. I have done a lot of searching and it seems that usually the electrode detaches from the outer casing and the entire outer casing comes out with only the electrode or part of the electrode stuck in the shaft (usually due to carbon buildup or swollen tip). In this case though, the outer wall of the plug sheared in two, which seems to imply that the outer wall itself is what is stuck in the shaft and not the electrode. The attached picture hopefully explains what I am trying to say.

I can easily latch on to the end of the electrode with some vice grips, but even if I managed to get that out, I would still have the outer wall of the plug in the hole. At the moment I just screwed the threaded part back in to keep the everything from blowing out so I could crank the truck. It cranked right up and seems to run fine. My inclination is to just leave it as is and hope that 7 good glow plugs will do the job, as I have some nightmares about making things worse in trying to make them better. Any chance of the electrode falling into the cylinder if this much of the outer case is still there? How to remove stuck electrodes, etc. but none on a stuck outer casing?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Glow Plug Code And CEL Code P0675

Truck has been running very well while in the warmer North Carolina climate pulling trailers with no limp mode or wrench light. However, when daughter started the truck this morning, SGII showed one DTC and when she pulled it up it was P0675. OK, glow plug num 5 maybe or the module. No issues starting or rough cold idle. I told her to clear the code and we'll see if comes back.

She did ask if it is something she should have it repaired before the trip back to Vermont. So I thought I'd ping the group here since reading posts, they seem to be fairly easy to replace (and assuming it isn't a chafed wire) and I could probably save her some $. Just want to make sure there isn't any chance of real engine damage.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Every Glow Plug Code At The Same Time?

Just happened to check codes today for fun and found something interesting. I've known about 2 or 3 glow plug codes since last winter but I looked today and I have a code for every single circuit. Thought that was kind of odd.... I already have 8 brand new plugs and both harnesses from Autonation sitting in the back seat, was just waiting till the fall to change them out. At 176k on the originals I decided to change them all. But now I'm thinking the GPCM may be faulty as well.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Code P1393 - Glow Plugs On Driver Side Are Not Working

I am having a difficult time trying to track down the root cause of a P1393 code in a 99.5 7.3. The code means all the glow plugs on the driver's side are not working. I don't have any other codes related to the glow plug system present in my computer.

I've replaced:
1)The Glow Plug Relay (I have the CA version with the shunt)
2)Valve cover gaskets and wire harnesses
3)Glow plugs

I've used all OEM product replacements.

Additional testing:
1)Voltage on the glow plug relay posts going to the left and right bank is the same (I think this means the shunt is okay)
2)Disconnecting the wire harness to the valve covers yields 12 volts at all 8 glow plug connections during the glow plug cycle
3)In one of the steps of a troubleshooting document I found, it requires a KOEO On-Demand Self Test. It does not complete and ends with a P0605 code, "Internal CTRL Module ROM Error" using a Snap On Scan tool.
4)Using the Snap On scan tool to run a glow plug test results in "Test has aborted 64 - Abnormal Exit without result".
5)I checked part of the wiring loom and it seemed to be good.

Is there a way to test the wire that goes from the Glow Plug Relay on the driver-side bank to the PCM? I think that either this wire is bad, or a bad PCM.

Got a 2003 6.0 that seems to be leaking from the glow plug harness. How hard would it be to just replace them? I've heard that trying to remove these things can be a pain because they almost always break. But if I'm just going to replace them who cares right?

Is there anything I need to be careful about? Or can I just rip em on out? Also I've noticed two different styles of harness should I replace mine with the other style or just keep it the same? And yes those valve cover nuts are loose. I'm aware
